Xanax versus Diazapam

I've tried the 10mg tablets a couple of times, and genuinely can't remember what the efect was. I don't mean I was spaced out or anything, just that nothing stands out, which probably means that it worked just as I expected it to. Nothing unexpected means that nothing gets flagged if you know what I mean.

In the UK they are fairly well prescribed (not like Xanax which is amost impossible to get on prescription) so I suppose it's considered a less risky drug, which is comforting.

Having said that, the solution to my dilemma has just occured to me. I'm happy with Xanax, and only use it in low doses, so I will get 1mg for my 'normal' use, and 0.5 mg for the occasional top up should the need arise. The quick-acting part is what I really appreciate.

My UK Gp won't even entertain the possibility of prescribing Alprazolam (Xanax)...it's 2-5mg Diazepam and F off.

I read few stories that diazepam is good for sleeping and such,but next day is pure hell and many describe it as a bad hangover.How much of a truth it is?

Diazepam is perfectly safe in low doses. Take 10mg at night for sleep...DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL WITH IT. No glass of wine before bed or quick beer...that will give you a dirty hangover the next day.

The other day i popped fex 3x2mg bars and 2x10mg diazepam over 10hour period first 2mg xanax was in the morning,then around 11 i took 20mg diazepam,and at 1oclock took another one and at around 3 last one of xannie,overall i was still anxious between 12-3 o clock,but later in the day i didnt feel any anxiety or tiredness as i do from xanax alone.So i dont know what to think.Am i to used to xanax that it blanks all the effects and should start reducing the dose,as i started on 1mg 9months ago now i barely go thorugh my working day on 6mgs :/

Dude you need to slowly reduce your Xannie intake!

Cut down SLOWLY. I can't stress enough that Benzo's are murder to detox/withdraw from. Do it slow and easy and then look for another route to deal with your anxiety.

as stated i dont take them when i dont need em.like the other day at work i took 2mg in the morning and 2, 4 hours later,and it was a freaking disaster of a day,pure panic and stressfull,but i felt calm and no anxiety at all during 10 hour shift.But i also had days where i would of taken 3-4mgs in short term and it wouldnt do nothing for my anxiety,Also i noticed some good effects as well on some days i would forget the pills and go through my day as a normal person,So altough my last post seemed a bit extreme,but i never used meds to get high or numb,or that it would put me or anyone in danger or affect my co-ordination.Furthermore i hate the feeling at the end of the day from using xanax as it leaves you completyely drained,not intrested in anything and just wanting to sleep into next day,so thanks for caring mattvert and good luck to you too

Yeah, no worries man. In the UK prescribe Alprazolom just Lorazepam instead.

I went through it all before, coming down from 120+ mg per day over the period of 16-18 months. The councellor I had then, told me it would have been easier for her to get me clean from heroine than Diaz, So do your research and don't dive in until you know what your getting into to :-D

It seems like in canada, or at least with my doc, he will prescribe ativan instead of xanax, and klonopin instead of diaz.

Mostly the same in the UK. Loraz for anxiety along with Diaz. Sleep issues then it's the Z Drugs...Zopi first then Zolp...then if you're very lucky and push you'll get Temaz(Restoril).

BTW it's all about the generics in the UK...at least were I live anyway.

as stated above i use alp and diaz but diazepam even at 30-40mgs does nothing to me or maybe because its of its long time to kick in,anyways i try to use diazepam before sleep but even after few weeks of using 20mgs does nothing anymore.other night i had 40mgs diazepam and 2mg bar of alp after an hour and still couldnt get to sleep for next 4 hours.the only good thing is the next day i needed only 3 bars of alp and couple dizepam to get me through the day and at the end i could feel that i had one to many as my speech got slurry,but the good thing is i had best confidence ever at work /default_smile.png .

Now altough im using only it on days as i work im going to tapper of the meds for a week or two depends how much of holidays i get,im planning to go cold turkey and stay inside most of the time so hopefully within a week rage and lack of sleepiness and mood changes gonna tapper of.Anyone tried it the same way to do it and how it went,im not worryong about having a siezure or heart attack,just want to give a body full cleanup and some time of to comeback to normal gaba levels naturally.So is week enough or will i need more time.advises ?

I think I was very lucky as I was taking other mood meds that stabilised me whilst all this was happening.

You really need someone to offer a shoulder of help when you need it...a physical one not cyber.

While on this amazingly high dose, were you able to function somewhat normally during the day?

I know if I take over 4mg, I seem to forget what I had done come the next day. That med really effects my memory.

I don't know if you alot abot BI-Polar as it's a strange disorder. I function fine on several mood stabilisers, keep down a great job and bring up 2 children with another on the way. I was only diagnosed in 2009 when I took too much Ambien from the GP...5 or 6 I recall; then something snapped inside my head and I went super manic...It's almost a euphoric time; you can't sleep; you think the world should be listening to you and you alone...everything you say is WORD. It can also give me burst's of genius creativity,focus and concentration to the n'th degree. You listen to no-one. It feels like a constant high.

Anyway it lasted about 3 weeks, then I crashed and the depression set in...and man that was some dark stuff and it lasts longer than the high, maybe 3-4 months.

Yep,18mg Clonazepam. I can't remember much of August/September and October of 2009...bit's and pieces nothing clear or concrete. God bless the NHS, they didn't know what the fu*$k to do, so they whacked me on this huge dosage.

When I crashed I was slurring my words and felt like my IQ had dropped by half.

Well luckily I stick to my Bi-Polar meds very closely so I've only had 2 attacks in 3 years. I really can't remember anything about being manic high, it just pieced together by other peoples memories. I did so crazy shit. I look back and laugh as it really was an experience I'll never forget.

My subsequent attacks have been really mild so no crazy stuff.

Oh...I still take Clonazepam only at 0.5mg as my GABA returned and the tolerence dropped.

best thing i love about benzos if taken a lot through the day,then when you go to sleep or take a nap you have best lucid dreams,its like you live your past events,same day events,and after waking up it takes time to figure out what even day it is /default_smile.png ,but bad thing is it takes a big tool on your brain and IQ as stated by MVT,after 8 months now i almost cant even type properly fast without making major mistakes in words or missing text,also memory loss is taking its toll aswell as i have to double check most of the stuff when doing something or even after finding an item which i had in my hands minutes ago,its bearable,as i started taking notes of things to do and events i did,like a small diary,but in long term,this is only a cover up cure before you crash or something changes in ones life /default_smile.png peace to all.

MVT i can relate to your state,as i do suffer from same manic roller coasters but for me they usually come in days time,one minute your excited like theres no tomorrow,second later you feel like crying.I choose benzos myself because as said in UK and close by countries they will never prescribe them,had a terrible accident in the past and all i got was 10x0.25 xannies for one time only /default_smile.png sad but true.On the other topic since its over a good year now isnce im on xanax,also 6months or so diazepam aswell,would it be safe to swap 80 mgs diazepam for 8mgs clonazepam,as i feel diazepam slowly looses its effect so i want to make some changes to keep tolerance at bay as bigger doses only make me sleepy and do nothing for anxiety.So thinking of trying to swap diaz for clon,but dont want to get sleepiness or slurry/slow reaction from using xanax and clon together.

As for now my dose depends from day to day some days it might be 8mg xanax plus 80mg diaz and id still be self conscious and not relaxed at all,but there are many days where i wouldnt take any or morning dose and it would be enough to carry me through the day if theres no stress involved,so it all depends i know that one day ill have to face the fact and drop the meds but before that happens i need a lot of changes in my life first to come to try and move on.Thanks for anyone who replies and i feel your pain if your going trough same conditions.Peace

Wow doesit! You certainly have a high tolerance level going on. I'd say it's quite worrisome.

Have you tried any SSRI's yet?

I was finally able to find the right SSRI which allowed me to reduce my benzo intake by quite an amazing amount.

They don't work for everybody, but for some they are a blessing.

Yeah the dose might be high enough some days,but what worries me is that already it starts to wear off and i dont get any beneficial effect anymore from diaz or xanax,plus i hate taking higher doses as it makes you feel hangover for the next day or two,and many more unpleasant effects,so im not trying to compensate by taking more,instead i want to look for alternatives to swap one benzo for another just to take a break.

As for SSris i did research on them,and its 50/50% results plus takes nearly two months to kick in,and they are more meant to treat depression mostly,or stabilize mood,and while i do have periods of depression or mood swings they dont affect me much as certain social situations.

And as for doses of xanax and such there is a research done will link it here that although high doses might be dangerous and doctors dont like the meds but everything is explained in here:http://www.lexington-on-line.com/naf_xanax.htm so its not so bad as many might think until its within boundaries

does it its like this valum lasts alot longer but u problly gunna have to drink with it...xanax u can take alot more and feel like u drank soemthing..either way they r both on the weaker side maybe try konlonpoin dude im doin the same thing tryin to calm myself down and be chilled out but feel good..if u figure out the combo tell me!! im all in : ))
