Good evening guys! Hope everyone’s having a bad ass weekend.

Unfortunately, I fell when hiking on a few days ago and I now have a broken patella -_- I have another doctors appointment set up on Tuesday to see if I will need surgery or not.

I did go to an urgent care center that had a separate orthopedic specialist on staff so I was able to get a quick x-rays done then that revealed the fracture.

I was just curious if anybody else is gone through this and had any personal experience/recommendations/things they wish they would’ve known when starting out their journey to recovery?

Of course, they didn’t give me anything for the pain and I’m going through the ringer here so I definitely will be hoping to get something as if there is any time that I truly do need it, it would be now. Thank god I have a supply of odsmt left that has been helping me along with Advil lol.

Trying to remain positive throughout this entire thing and remember that this will only be happening for a few months and by January I should be back to my normal crazy self lol.

Thank yall for any and all feedback! Love this community

Damn. I hate that for you. Never had a patellar fracture. Since it’s not exactly a load-bearing structure, I would think that your recovery should be a little easier than a long bone as long as the ligaments and tendons are still intact. The best advice for almost any injury is to start using it as soon as it is set, going very slowly and gently at first, and to progress its exposure as long as you’re able to tolerate the discomfort. Rest is appropriate while the fracture is unaddressed, but will eventually lead to immobility, dysfunction and constant pain if done for too long. Praying for your recovery.

Thank you so much for the kind words and feed back!! I have an appointment tomorrow that will determine what the next step is and I can’t wait just to get back onto the road to recovery.

I know I’ll be giving 150% in any physical therapy; I’m big into yoga, stretching, and hiking etc.. so I can’t wait to get back to everything in due time.

I have this brace on that’s as big as my leg almost so that has been a comfort too as I know I won’t bend it wrong and jack something up =]

I think yoga will be one of your greatest tools though this especially if you use it as a form of resistance training. By focusing on gradual exposure to, at first, limited and, eventually, full range of motion under load, I think you will put yourself way ahead of what general population usually sees in terms of recovery time. Give it hell.

Appreciated all the love and good vibes in the comments!! It’s been going OK so far; I got the big brace off a few weeks ago and have been doing physical therapy the last week.

Just finished my at home exercises and feeling pretty solid! Still swollen and painful a lot of the times and use a cane to be safe but it’s coming along solid!

Hopefully I’ll be back to hiking soon (went on a few level walks for about an hour each lately) and then work my way up to my normal few hours of hiking or outdoors a day! *fingers crossed*

Glad to hear the recovery has gone alright so far and hope it continues to do so. I hope that it works out for you to bs able to get back into hiking and spending more time outdoors soon too! Thank you for the update on how you're doing.
