Are Bitcoins a good investment?

Can someone point me to right thread on purchasing coin platform. A certain one just shut down on me and it has me in a mental fray.

Hey mate, sorry to hear about your situation , that can be really frustrating.

If you’re in the USA and looking to purchase coins safely, here are a few solid and commonly used platforms:
  • Coinbase = Very beginner-friendly and reliable. Supports most major cryptocurrencies.
  • Kraken = Great for security and customer support, with a good range of crypto options.
  • Binance US = A bit more advanced, but good fees and solid liquidity.
  • Cash App or Strike = Simple options if you're only looking to buy Bitcoin.
  • Paxful or LocalCoinSwap = Peer-to-peer platforms where you can buy with different payment methods, but always be cautious and only trade with trusted sellers.

If you're referring to buying privacy coins or using crypto for specific services, you might want to check dedicated threads on forums like Reddit (r/cryptocurrency, r/BitcoinBeginners) or Dread (if you're familiar with onion forums).

in short, yes, it would have been a good investment, LOL.

even now, as long as you have other investments, traditional instruments, it still wouldn't hurt to hold some btc.

Funny what a ride it has been, but I wouldn't call bitcoin and investment at all. It is a bet, a bet that might turn a profit, but still a raw gamble. There are no sane metrics to use to try to build a risk profile for it, because it is a speculative asset. Nobody knows what is going to happen. It might hold steady, increase, or crash as soon as tomorrow. If someone tells you that they do absolutely know what will happen with bitcoin, that is an instant red flag that that person is full of shit. So, might be wort putting some money in if you want to gamble with it but let's not fall for hindsight bias. There is still no real end-user use case that isn't speculation for holding bitcoin outside of maybe paying taxes in El Salvedor, which I think has adopted it (alongside USD which is still far more widely used).

yes it's trackable. yes it's not truly secret or offshore. but given the various options out there in the world such as gold or Swiss bank accounts, btc does have a use case if you are trying to hide some rainy day funds from your wife or whoever. hint: you should act like you are relatively computer/tech illiterate otherwise.

I just wanna add that for your ‘simple’ option, namely C@sh @pp, even if you wanted a different 🪙 once you buy b+c on CA you can send it to a self custodial such as £xodus or C@ke and exchange it on there for quite a few different options. I think the former did away with XMR swapping, couldn’t tell you why but one day it was on there and I no longer see it. But c@ke is focused around M0nero so the option should be a safe bet on there.
