Benzo's and Shoplifting

This first happened after I'd had a detox for alcohol in 2003, and my spree continued over into 2004; where I was eventually caught and stopped stealing. 

I started using benzo's again in 2007 and the stealing started again, even managing to make off with X Box 360's on two occasions. Again I stopped until about a week and a half ago. 

I recently had somewhat of a 'spree', but have not done it for five or six days, and don't want to again.

Is this common with other benzo users?

Its been years but, when I used to take XaNx I would shoplift pretty frequent, like everytime I went into a store I have never stole anything in my life except during that time. And thats not even the most embarrasing thing I would do on a regular basis on Xanx, not even close.:/

 For me, it was pretty specific to this med...if I took Val or Clon , I would be to tired and bored to steal anything. I think it might be more common than is reported. Its one of the at least +15 reasons I cant take this paticular med.

It's interesting that only Xanax affects you in that way. I've heard that it can have some scary effects. With me it was diazepam, and latterly MSJ's - which are basically also diazepam. I didn't consider that the type of benzo might be setting me off.

For sure, for me it was specific to xans. Other behavior side effects I had were excessive crying,  and extreme empathy. By that I mean things like : someone cutting down a tree, a small animal hit by a car, someone spraying pesticide, etc.. these things would call me severe distress. Extreme sadnness. No anxiety or panic, hence the reactive crying to everything.

I never experienced this on any other benzo med. The only side effects I had with either val or clonz is what seemed to be extreme sedation at even the smallest therapudic doses. And it would never lessen, its like I could never develope enough tolerance to the med to get past the sedation. I would sleep or half-sleep about 18 hours on day on under 10 mg day val. 

And sleeping pills lol. I cant take them. I took a ambian once and did not feel "awake" for at least a week. 1 benadryl tablet can knock me out for a day and a half.

Your Xanax symptoms sound scarily like my Borderline Personality Disorder! That's quite odd, lol.

With benzo's my tolerance is pretty high, but 1mg of Xanax can knock me out into a drooling stupor for an hour or two. Others, I can take a lot of and still function on.

Ambien gave me a nice night's sleep when a friend sent me a few pills last year, but I have never understood the hype over it to be honest. 

I am out of likes unfortunately. Boo.

This was something I experienced when I was younger.  I turned into a regular cleptomanic, to the point that I was in trouble with the law from it. The benzos not only lowered my anxiety, but reduced my ability to discern right from wrong. I wouldn't even try to hide my stealing. This usually occurred when I took higher doses, such as a full 2mg, but as long as I take 0.5mg-1.0mg I see none of these side effects. This issue occurred in when I was in a "blacked out" type mode...typically if I took my medication, forgot, and drank alcohol on top of it  (which is a no no for benzos). Anyways, I've definitely been there. Try reducing your dosage and see if that helps reduce that side effect. 

And for me, I never experienced this type of side effect from Diaz or klons, and I took those in higher doses (maybe 20mg of Diaz, and a full 2mg of klonz). I have a mild to moderate tolerance fyi.

I've shoplifted on Xanax and I am not a thief I despise but I've shoplifted on bars 2-3 times and I don't why cause I'm not a their. Lol not to mention I had the money to pay. I dunno Xanax can make you do weird shit.

Yeah I'm no thief but when I have taken x@n@x I have a serious spending issue. Spending hundreds of dollars on snacks and shit I didnt intend to use. I love the things but I have gotten into some bad money situations after some of those times. Worst part is not remembering where my money went at all when I came out of it....Be careful!

when i was in a rough spot i would shoplift a lot of food from walmart and cvs. the benzos made it easier of course because i wouldnt be worried at all about being caught.

I knew mine was related to Benzo's but it's kind of reassuring to see other people admit it- I had a credo on my shoplifting of course -Only Monopolies like Wal Mart (and I also knew their security system and some of the store's policies) I noticed another person who would NEVER Steal doing little things like leaving stuff on the bottom of their cart and "Oh did I forget that case of beer? My bad"- Another went on a shopping spree and got tons of credit cards, I've barely taken Xanax -everybody's chemistry is different, it was when I'd take Klons -and take more than I was prescribed. And to be honest after seeing the profit percentage and the wage/benefits of Wal Mart employees- I don't feel bad at all- I did sift thru an aquaintence's med cabinet and they had vics that had been sitting there for a year with only 2 gone- I took a few- I feel bad about that lol-I still get the urge and maybe if something gets forgotten in my cart but it's not worth being cuffed and stuffed- I will mention many of these stores are too cheap to pay people to monitor the camera's, they may catch it later (Pay with cash!)
