CIM - how to use it?

Hello,

I am interested in learning about using CIM as a payment method. I am not having much luck finding any info on it. I have found plenty on bitcoins, though.

Can anyone point me in the right direction please? Either here or elsewhere.  If I can avoid MG, I'm all for it.

thanks!

It all depends on vendor sunset. Not that many take it as a form of payment. Did you have someone in mind?

CIM is a payment method based on trust between seller and buyer.

BitCoin will replace CC-payments in the future and CIM will "kill" WU/MG.

If you can show the MOD that you're a trustworthy person then he could probably be able to point
you in the right direction.

...and that has nothing to do with your low post range, I've seen members here who can write a few
hundred BS posts within a week or two....it has something to do with "how" you ask and "what" you post..

Be creative. Be foolish. THINK!!

I would assume the way to do that would be to ask the vendor if you can pay that way. You would have to trust the vendor though to not screw you over and say you didn't send X amount when you really did. Also you would have to rely on the P.O. system. What if the letter containing your C gets lost? I think that would probably be rare, but it could happen.

I've used CIM before with my Vendor. I like it just takes a little longer for the whole process to be complete. I wouldn't recommend unless you 100% trust your Vendor. I 110% trust mine though

Be very careful with CIM and only try it with the most trusted vendor.  Even then problems arise such as:  Dishonesty and theft from shipping store employees (had that happen and was out $400 from a PA thief), also the vendor uses a person to pick up the funds and there is no guarantee that they might not "skim" off the top when they go to pick up the funds.  Then it is your word against one of their workers which is usually a no win situation.  I use signature confirmation and send express mail and even with all of that I have recently had issues and with one of the most trusted vendors here, but if the money does not show you are SOL.     I had another issue with a vendor who has become unstable and flat out said I shorted him funds after he opened the letter himself.  Well that was one vendor that is not trustworthy and is a chance I took and lost-no way to prove the amount sent.

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of this method. From my point of view, hearing about all the times something goes wrong, I would only use it as a last resort.

Members have had some BIG losses and that with probably THE most trusted SY vendor. As @Iguana pointed out, a lot can go wrong. At least with the other payment methods, you have a receipt to prove your case. Unfortunately I have heard that MG may become more difficult to use it the near future, but until then, I would stick with it.

I'm the opposite: CIM is the only method I use these days. MG and WU, with their bans and issues, I just refuse to use them. If you mail a package using priority shipping, you get a tracking #, a guaranteed delivery date, and tracking that shows it was delivered. Yes, an unscrupulous vendor could claim that the amount was wrong, but I've had scammers swear their guy never got the WU funds even though WU tracking show it was picked up. I've never once had an issue with CIM, but I've always used it with trusted, reliable vendors who I've worked with in the past. I always give them the tracking number from my receipt when I ship.

FWIW  - the rule still applies in this world, never send more money than you can afford to lose.

I have used it twice recently and have been quite happy.  I like the sending a parcel with a Tn and knowing its on the way and not sitting in a distant land waiting to be picked up.  Yes it does have its risks but I will do it until I get burned.   I got burned in my neighborhood so it can happen anywhere.   I also don't mind Mg but the hassle of having to use the kiosk in public sorta freaked me out as I live in a small town.   I also was a little freaked the first time I did it and I could see that it was picked up.  I was thinking to myself in my little brain "there it goes!".   I was pretty nervous until I got my Tn.    I was also envisioning someone skipping down the dusty road with my $ in hand knowing I was far away and there was absolutely nothing I could do about it.    They both have there drawbacks.....I personally follow the wisdom of those that tread before me and try to use the most recent, reputable people.

and I have to agree with Sciatic above me.....the rule applies...

Ive been doing CIM a few months now. Sent a couple MG's here and there but cash maybe a dozen times. Its good until something goes wrong. I always get nervous when address changes. I know it has to change but these guys need to put some thought about buisness hours when they pick a place to plant thier mailbox.  Picking a place that is open 9-5 weekdays and limited hours on  Saturday is not great when you need sig verification. I sent over four hundred last week and couldnt get it delivered because" buisness closed"  Then my priority express.package was signed for after 6 days by someone nobody knowz. Wtf? Im not wanting to draw attention to it with post office etc. But the vendor is being really vague about wtf happened.  Its not looking good:(  This method can go bad. I will report on vendor thread when this is solved but since he says he has not got the money and courier has it signed and delivered......not much left I can do about it.  :(

Rereading my previous post, perhaps I sounded overly negative about this method. When it goes smoothly, it's probably the best. It's just that in my job here, I hear about when it goes wrong. The best you can usually hope for is if the vendor is willing to split the loss. Some will not. At least you can get your money back from MG/WU etc.

I do use CIM on occasion, so I didn't want to sound like I am completely against it. But what @girlgerms describes is the down side. I hope that she has some luck working it out with her vendor. Keep us posted!

It isn't easy to get a mailbox these days, you need mortgage or car insurance papers or voter ID in addition to regular ID.  It is crazy, that is what makes me nervous about CIM.   I WU some money to say  India, I can use my real name on the WU and the receiver can probably use theirs.  It is just too big of a net to cast for LE.  CIM seems like a direct connection where you are on camera at the post office at 2:47 sending a tracked overnight package to what turns out to be some drug dealer that is under investigation.  How hard would it be for cops to get your address, send an overnight tracked package and watch you pick it up.  It is just a much smaller arena, I feel much more comfortable with Reloadit cards (under used payment method IMO) my steroid guy prefers to get paid in those, or WU/MG.  At least with WU/MG there are several to choose from when receiving, even state wide, so it would seem harder to nail down.  But then again the FBI and DEA have done it time and again, so who knows whats best.  CIM just seems to easy to pinpoint for my comfort.

You guys off topic but everytime I see this I think c-m in mouth (that what it stands for) lol - sorry

CIM is the best way to go imo. I mean you're literally in a database when you do MG/WU etc. Yea it's a risk, but if you have a good relationship with your vendor it can easily be solved even if something did go wrong. One time my letter literally went to a different address in a city a hour away from my vendor. It was the PO's fault, idunno how the screwed that up. I almost sh1t my pants thinking I was screwed. But my vendor drove the hour to the next city and somehow managed to get it.

[snip]...I also don't mind Mg but the hassle of having to use the kiosk in public sorta freaked me out as I live in a small town....[snip]
That's my problem as well; in a very small town that's extremely limited in available WU/MG kiosks.  After a few sends then local staff began to either address me by name or shoot me the stink-eye, with both treatments being alarming for obvious reasons.  That plus major hassles with being challenged by WU/MG about why I was using their service became exhausting.  Was never refused service, but dang it was like pulling crocodile teeth to get stuff sent.

Huge relief to find a trusted vendor who accepts CIM plus a couple online who accept CCs.  Waaay less stressful.
