Hi i just downloaded discord and was curious if anybody knew of some discord groups that are about research chemicals? I used to use telegram but lost my password. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated perhaps even an invite link. Thanks!

I would imagine these days most of the group talk about RCs is probably happening in Signal, Session, Potato - apps of that nature. I have a reserved Signal group but I don't know how admin/mods would feel about me posting that. I was always under the impression you couldn't link to outside groups on here unless you're a vendor posting a comms channel.

Thanks for the info that's helpful. Another person was saying id have better luck creating a group and inviting ppl there but idk

Not familiar with Session or Potato but I think Signal will be a safer bet than Discord. Have heard Discord shuts down are see servers and bans all members if there's any discussion remotely related to sourçing, also not sure how willing Signal is to cooperate with LE or how much information they actually keep stored, but Discord is fairly willing to work with LE and your entire Discord history is saved on their end (and I believe even stays saved if you delete your account).

I miss the days when communities were how things used to operate. I used to run a very successful video chat where the filter was through getting to know people intimately. The chat wasn't even about finding the zines or subscriptions. Just about people being safe and friendly with one another. Formed some great friendships that way and everything was incredibly natural. This was way back in 2012-2019 though, a lot has changed since then and security was always a priority. Discord is SUPER unsecure, I wouldn't trust anything in that realm unless you yourself know everyone in there and even then, the company does nothing for your security. Signal is my go to for groups these days. Even so I would keep everything on PGP that is sensitive even while using it. Mental Outlaw on Youtube has some good information regarding signal if you're dubious. Apparently even if they wanted to cooperate, they can't due to the nature of the encryption. But the problem I think is always on the USER moreso than the company. A compromised device/node is always how they getcha.

Couldn’t agree more. Solid advice and info!

Agree hard to find advice about new reading materials even on here. er0w1d isn't as up to date w d1$$0s and don't mess with that big r forum spyware. What app do you recommend most gulp?

Personally I would avoid apps if possible, stick with using PGP and emails such as proton or riseup. It's better to encrypt via your own methods because then you know FOR SURE your message is only readable by the intended recipient. If you MUST use an app I would stick with signal as it is open source, again I refer to Mental Outlaw on youtube for why that is important. From what I understand even if signal wanted to cooperate with bad actors they can't due to the nature of their cryptography. There have been times according to the web that certain big time actors have attempted to gain information from signal only to be thwarted by the methods used. From what I understand signal doesn't store any data besides user data on their servers beyond what is necessary for the message to be sent though I don't really understand how that works.

Telegram is supposedly good but from what I understand, you don't get e2e unless you actively use their private messages. Even so, you could use their cryptography and then on top of that use PGP for extra security. I would do that if I were using these groups personally because then you aren't relying on a company to protect you. If somehow someone were to get a hold of the message, they wouldn't even be able to translate it without the proper credentials. This would double up your protection and keep malicious actors from being able to act on any information found.

I don't like apps since you are relying on the company behind the app to do the security. Obviously no matter how you slice it, if you use an email client or anything to send messages, you are relying on the company to protect your data, however, to reiterate, if you encrypt on your end, even if the company has a hack or some data breach that releases your private info, the attacker would be hard-pressed to do anything about it.

tl;dr use pgp, it's your safest bet.
