Short and sweet.

So, my mother has a dog that is 14 yrs old. He weighs 46 lbs. and is a Catahoula.

She took him to the vet and they gave her a script for his arthritis pain. Tr@madols 50mg.

My mom made a mistake and when she went to give the dog his meds, he was given a 10 mg Val.

She did not realize this right away. About 45 minutes later she realized what had taken place. He walked up to her and just looked at her with glistening eyes. He was not walking sloppy, but she said he was visibly sedated. I personally didn't see this take place. I wish I was there though. Anyways, she kept him up all night with treats and music n stuff. He is fine. He sleeps more than he did b4 with the tramadol.

I found humor in this, but only after initially having deep concern.

Now its funny as hell to think about.

Great story thanks for sharing that, Natty.  Surprised (pleasantly) to hear that vet would write a Tramadol script for a pet in pain.  We'd give our dog a very mild dose of something around July 4th for fireworks noise, didn't really help much.  Did your mom keep him up so that he wouldn't lose consciousness?

Yea she kept him up because she was worried if he fell asleep, he would not awaken.

Given a dug a benzo is fine. MSJ are a dog diaz maker from what I have heard.

Would be good too talk to it see how chilled they are.

My sisters dog is nt very well he's on 100mg tramodol and gapentin 400mg the dogs in the poor state but a lot better when he's had a meds. Personally I think it's probably easier for him, a dog, than humans to get meds in this bloody country. Poor dog though, I think she would have had him put to sleep seems the fairest thing to do but her husbands just walked out on her so may its all to much at the moment.

Acepromazine didn't really work on my cat (he gets terrified when he's in a cage to the point of bouncing off it and hurting himself) so the vet suggested I give him Xan before his appointment...0.25 mg for a 12 lb brick shithouse of a cat (they said 0.125 to 0.25 mg but I went right in with the upper limit). I figured it had to work, since 2.5 mg would be a decent starter dose for a human ten times that size, right? Long story short, nope. It didn't slow him down at all, instead he spent most of the next hour tearing around my house knocking shit over, and I certainly couldn't get him in the cage. The only indication anything was different was that he kept falling off things and running into walls. I was a little annoyed I had to cancel his appointment but it was hilarious. Must be a paradoxical reaction from benzos, I hope he had fun at least 😹

Had my parents' untrained asshole of a dog eat my antidepressants once, it wasn't a whole bottle but quite a few. Dog was fine thankfully, I think some mood stabilizers might have even done some good.

They make Benzos to give to dogs with separation anxiety and they prescribed Benadryl to Dogs to even Imodium is given to dogs for diarrhea only difference is the human medication versions of these prescriptions given to dogs are way cheaper so if you ever find yourself in a situation where you need to pay for Tramadol from your Vet for the Dog it's way more expensive than if you bought it from your Pharmacy for treating your own pain which is just messed up to say the least lol.

Yeah my dog was on it once years ago and it was the same which surprised me too.  I don't remember it costing more but it makes sense the laws would be screwy.  It did seem to always help him move around more and enjoy his last years.

True. Maybe because you're paying them? But the problem seems to be for the North East more than anything where we have to pay to see doctors too......

That was so sweet and gave me a laugh! Everything alright with the poor little thing? I'd love photos of him. At school when I was seven or eight a friend showed me her dog's sedative bottle. The warnings included "do not drive or operate machinery".

I gave my mastiff a little xanax after he broke his leg. It was the only way to keep him off of it.

  3. Realbenzeyes @ Realbenzeyes: I’m salty myself, being an Ohio state fan, but Miami is winning by the smallest margin. Indiana going to be hard to beat
  4. M @ meepmoopmeep: I’m salty about the SEC being eliminated but good for Miami. it was a well fought game by both teams
  5. M @ meepmoopmeep: Imagine being a 10 seed barely squeaking into the playoffs becoming a cinderella team

  14. Thoth @ Thoth: CFP needs more of an NBA or MLB playoff structure but that would be hard to structure. Divisions inside Leagues

  20. M @ meepmoopmeep: i feel like they deserve it after all of the drama. at the same time though, Indiana is extremely good and will be a mountain for Ole Miss to climb if they make it to the championship game
