A little early, but I'm headed to Fort Bragg tonight for a Memorial Day speech by an old Army buddy who is now a Colonel and Chief of Staff of one of the biggest outfits on post (we're leaving tonight because my son is stationed at Bragg right now as well, and he and his 7-month pregnant wife are headed to Asheville, NC, (where they got married) for a four day weekend while my wife & I look after our 18-month old grandson).
Remember, this weekend isn't for thanking vets for their service, it's about honoring the fallen. So have a great time, grill out, do some 12-ounce curls, and enjoy the time off from work, but save a thought for those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and if there's an organized Memorial Day parade or activity in your area give some thought to attending it, even if it is early in the morning on Saturday or Sunday. Me, I don't dare miss them - The Infantry God can be cruel to his acolytes if they don't show respect
Stock up on grilling supplies and beer / liquor, and enjoy your Memorial Day weekend, my friends.
