Freebase vs Salt

I hate chemistry.  Always my weakest subject in school. Very inconvenient for me since I have a fondness for designer drugs aka research chemicals.   I get miffed when people say " oh ummm if you turn that into a freebase it will vape better"  as if it's the most obvious thing in the world.    So really,  just by looking at a substance, how am I supposed to know this?   Is this a general rule of thumb for anything, that the freebase is always better?   I know some RCs already come freebase.  Why do some come that way and some don't?  Am I really missing out on a lot of things if I just choose to ignore this distinction?  Is this something only RC snobs care about?  Thank you to anybody out there who can clarify this for me.

[I know people will say "don't you know how to use Google idiot" and I have done this but most explanations already assume a grasp of chemistry that is beyond my feeble mind.  Like they are talking in a secret language.]

um if you want to convert something to freebase, look up how to make cr@ck and substitute the yayo for whatever substance you're trying to covert. Sorry it doesn't really answer your question about the differences, I too sucked at chemistry but if you want to convert something to freebase its pretty simple if I can manage to do it.  Hope this helps : )

It's a general rule. The salt ion bonds to the drug and you need to break that bond before the drug will melt or vaporize. Breaking the bond takes some energy so you end up needing to use more energy (ie higher temperature) to vaporize the drug. And these higher temperatures can burn other parts of the drug molecule, which you don't want.
