It's hard to really say. There are so many different reasons for white and dark spots. White could indicate arthritis, degenerative bones, fractures, etc. Dark spots, called hot spots could be due to the leftover radioactive material from the dye in your body from the scan. This radioactivity could just be residual, so in that case there would be nothing to worry about. Having said this, it is really tough to say definitively without seeing the scan first-hand.

You're quite welcome kitty. I have some knowledge regarding this, because of my studies in college and some first-hand experience, but like I said there can be a myriad of reasons. I hope everything turns out well for you. You're in my prayers.

Good answer DKaramazov, I'll just add my experience years back.

I had a bone scan when I was 21 and it was pretty weird. I drank the radioactive tracer instead of having it injected and had to wait 4 or 5 hours and come back to the hospital where they examined the results. It looks like the opposite of a radiograph (x-ray) in that the bones are dark against a white background not white against a black background. I could see the areas of my body where the tracer had deposited, ie bladder, kidneys, ureters...

The Doctors were looking for "hot" and "cold" spots. The scan uses a mildly radioactive dye to measure bone metabolism. "Hot" areas--areas that are abnormally bright on the scan and indicate that there is increased bone turnover in that area. Osteoblasts (bone building cells and Osteoclasts (cells that break down bone). The cold areas on the scan are abnormally dark compared with the surrounding bone and this can indicate that there is less bone breakdown and regrowth in that area. It can show where necrosis or bone death has taken place due to lack of blood supply. This can happen on the head of the femur. Hot spots may be indicative of inflammation or a tumor, whereas cold spots can be a sign of decreased blood flow to an area.

A tumor was what I had in my right middle finger (payback for flipping too many people off) It was bright white but there were no other areas of metastasis. In a malignant tumor or cancer it probably would have shown up in the lower spine. That's why they give patiients with prostate cancer bone scans to see if it has spread to the lumbar vertebrae.

Bone scans are good for detecting abnormalities in bone breakdown and metabolism, but they are not good for determining the cause of these abnormalities. Other tests like MRI's are needed to go with the x-rays and bone scan.

Drugbuyersguide Shoutbox
  1. fyjclol @ fyjclol: Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
  2. A @ AnnaSofia: Shout box is for light shoot the shit type convo - like Gracie implied. The SB is very visible, so to speak.
  3. J @ jjjjjjjjj: @Layne_Cobain Happy Thanksgiving to you too! And Happy Thanksgiving to all the lovely people here!
  4. L @ Layne_Cobain: Thanks @jjjjjjjjj and others…place is the best…Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!! 🦃 🦃
  5. J @ jjjjjjjjj: Always enjoy seeing y'all's sports talk in here
  6. tiquanunderwood @ tiquanunderwood: Yeah we're keeping it here. Thanks everyone <3
  7. Ketmaster @ Ketmaster: nah if mods say you can keep it to shoutbox, go for it
  8. L @ Layne_Cobain: Sports FTW 🙌 @tiquanunderwood 😃 , but yeah guess we can make a thread or wutever for our more in depth “coverage”

  10. iamgroot @ iamgroot: Here is our new official email address from now on. support@mediattics.com
  11. iamgroot @ iamgroot: Some customers were scammed by someone using a nearly identical email address. So I’m planning to change my email to one that uses my official website domain, so it can’t be easily copied and everyone can stay safe from scammers. Here is our new official email address from now on. support@mediattics.com
  12. fyjclol @ fyjclol: Also wondering what happened to the guy with the btc predictions. And +1 for fooseball
  13. L @ LW815: 90% of the time when I see it, it’s being used for exactly what it’s not supposed to be used for(with the exception of you and Layne talking fooseball)
  14. L @ LW815: I’d say it’s fair enough game to discuss whatever you wanna discuss(within the rules ofc) and if people don’t like it oh well. It’s not like the shoutbox is constantly popping off with other discussion lol
  15. tiquanunderwood @ tiquanunderwood: Well sorry if I bother anyone with my sports talk :) much love to all. Happy holidays.
  16. Gracie5 @ Gracie5: Shout box is for sports, hey, Happy Thanksgiving. It’s not for those other things people like to bring up. Please use or start a thread in the appropriate place.
  17. L @ LW815: Better to push other worse discussions out of sight IMO and see random sport shit, but also kinda makes it hard to have that content removed if need be. I don’t know how to view the entire shoutbox recent history but I know it’s possible lol so it’s both a good and bad thing tbh
  18. Ketmaster @ Ketmaster: exactly
  19. L @ LW815: I agree @Ketmaster but their lengthy sport discussions usually tend to happen at convenient times, like when somebody is talking about or asking things that the shoutbox also isn’t meant for(that are worse than random sport talks)
  20. Ketmaster @ Ketmaster: I appreciate the good vibes but I agree sports stuff should like be in a thread or PM or something, not a sports guy so it is kinda like wtf is happening people are messaging each other in a shoutbox
