general risk assessment for different types of drugs

I would love to get some takes on how to calculate risk of dangerous adulterants (i.e. fent) being added to different substances.

from my limited research so far I've gotten the impression that:

- the media and govt ('one pill can kill') generally overstates both the likelihood and the magnitude of potential risk in fentanyl being added to *all kinds* of drugs
- fent is much more likely to be present in *downers* and far less likely to be an issue with stimulants (meth, amphetamines, methylphenidate etc.). this is because the effects of fent are unlikely to be confused with those of stimulants.
- regardless, there is some risk of fentanyl 'cross contaminating' with stimulants if manufacturers aren't careful about cleaning scales / presses etc. or make some other mistake. how real is this risk?
- however, fent is most commonly intentionally added to drugs for cost savings reasons (i.e. fent is easier/cheaper to get than whatever drug it's substituting in for). fent is unlikely to be added to drugs that are already relatively cheap to manufacture or obtain.
- *unless*: fent is used to increase the high of a drug with the hope of increasing demand: is this a thing?
- regardless, if fent is unwittingly consumed, the extent to which a dose may be fatal is largely overstated. drug manufacturers/distributers do not want to kill their customers.
- certain ROAs (intravenous, insufflation, smoking??) pose more risk than consuming orally, as digestion slows the rate at which a substance enters the blood stream.
- in addition to test strips, another harm reduction strategy is to consume a new substance in small increments and evaluate effects before increasing dosage

  1. tiquanunderwood @ tiquanunderwood: @Layne_Cobain What a game for your Panthers. Bet Mr. Douche David Tepper is thrilled haha. But that was awesome. Congrats.
  2. tiquanunderwood @ tiquanunderwood: Happy Football Sunday! @Layne_Cobain Chubbard putting on the jets.

  6. L @ Layne_Cobain: @Hankhill one of the best SB’s ever imo that goal line stance by the Ravens must still be in Jim Harbaughs nightmares considering he’d be a collegiate and pro championship winning coach

  10. L @ lovOFopisndwn: sorry
  11. L @ lovOFopisndwn: ?
  12. tiquanunderwood @ tiquanunderwood: @Hankhill and everone else. Love the sports talk. Yeah Ray Lewis is GOAT at MLB in my opinion. Both him and Ed Reed are fist ballot hall of famers. But yeah, that last game was painful.
  13. Hankhill @ Hankhill: ravens used to be my favorite team and I still love em, but since I smoved havent watched a game since the superbowl 2013. Ray lewis was a goat fr in my opinion
  14. M @ MCAJB6122: Sorry tiquan I know that must've been frustrating for you but I personally really enjoyed the game 😊
  15. tiquanunderwood @ tiquanunderwood: @Layne_Cobain Honestly it is one of the worst ravens game I've watched since Lamar started in 2018, taking over for Flacco. Everything that could go wrong on offense did. We were moving the ball, but turning it over on flukey plays.
  16. L @ Layne_Cobain: @tiquanunderwood couldnt believe that bro I knew they’d be better with burrow back but you guys just kept shooting yourselves in the foot 5 turnovers 😬 but you still very alive after that win streak
  17. tiquanunderwood @ tiquanunderwood: Oof that was rough. Know how you feel this past Monday @Layne_Cobain
  18. M @ MCAJB6122: Great games earlier. Not my preferred outcomes but love when primetime games are close
  19. tiquanunderwood @ tiquanunderwood: Let's go ravens babyyyyy
  20. tiquanunderwood @ tiquanunderwood: Already watching!
