If you live in the northern hemisphere, around now is the time to start planting. If you’re in the US it’ll depend on your USDA growing zone but a search engine can give you some details. Keep in mind it’s technically ill1gał to grow them (somnïferūm) in the US but helping your grandma plant a few for ornamental purposes is not enforced as far as I can tell. Other varieties are not, but could be depending on where you live so research. Like P. Orientale or P. bracteatum which contain a lot of thëbainë which is toxic in high doses and is only really used in farm@ to make oxi hydô oxým0rph etc .Look up grow būsts of the somnïferūm variety and it’s usually people with an acre+ in plain view, being careless, etc.
So I can’t condone breaking a law, but if grandma wants a couple, break up the dirt in her flower bed and sprinkle some seeds on top and press them down lightly (they need sunlight to germinate), then mist or lightly water. Do that every two weeks until you see some germinate. They go dormant over winter and start growing in the spring. You can also plant more in the spring if grandmas don’t survive or you live somewhere without a cold winter or she wants another 1 or 2. They just won’t get as big.
They’ll flower pretty early and that’s when grandma would cut them for a bouquet. A person who wants to cook with the seeds and get rid of the seed pods that have the problematic stuff in them (m0rph, c0deïn3) would wait for the petals to drop off naturally and then a week or so later, they’ll be ready. Again, a search engine can give more info.
People in SE Asia or the middle east lance the pods to collect the sap when it dries which is what 0piüm is, but that’s clearly manūfactuřing. A lazier person would just chop up the pods and stems and cook them in simmering water for a while and strain and do that a couple times then cook that water solution down until it gets low and let the rest of the water evap. Thats also frowned upon by ĻE though.
From there people in other countries extract the m0rph which isn’t too tough reaction wise and then make a horse supplement from that if they can get or make a certain chêmic@l.

Sorry, forgot to add that those that do use it in SE Asia would start very small (pea size) and go from there. I’ve been told that côdeïne converts to m0rpħ so some people like eating it more but someone else would have to give you better specifics on the methods and differences

Gotcha. Thanks so much for your info!

If anyone has any experience about actually prepping and smoking this stuff im all ears
