Honestly when I first heard this at my age,  I had no clue of the actually meaning.....  for some reason I never forgot it either.... 

Well many years later with a kid involved.    I cant even fathom how two people cant over come any issues. To at the very least be qurgual top have a proper conversation.  Cornering their child.....      what is wrong with ppl???
