Everyone knows that you can't tare and weigh from there, you have to add a significant weight and then measure delta in weight as you add capsule and powder or just powder ... Problem I was having is the stupid calibration weights that come with the scale take up the whole nice little weigh dish basically making it useless and they fall over if you're clumsy and you bump the weight with the filled capsule ruining what you were doing.
So in a flash of brilliance I decided to use a nickel instead of the calibration weight and put it under the pan. Viola now I can use the little pan to weight and then dump while leaving the nickel on the scale. Since you're measuring delta anyways it doesn't matter if the nickel is exactly 5 gr or if you use a foreign coin as long as it gets you to that window of accuracy.
So leave the calibration weights for calibrating and use a nickel under the pan when weighing your lab supplies
