Kratom with opiates - anyone got a solid answer?

I use kratom with my opiates, to keep my use of DHC under check, have done for ages.

But a lot of people claim that kratom contains small amounts of receptor antagonists, which may blunt or block euphoria, and even cause dysphoria, while others say they are in too smaller number to affect it. I feel less euphoria, and sometimes a bit irritable, but is the reduced euphoria just down to tolerance? I can't tell... I guess I feel irritable because I'm a miserable git...

What I'd like to know, does anyone else have any direct experiences or thoughts? I would love a solid answer to this; I don't have it in me to separate the doses of kratom and DHC, I need both, it's what I'm used to.

Any thoughts would be massively appreciated. =)

My PM doctor is the one that told me about kratom. I am prescribed opiates among some other things from him. He has me on what most considered a small amount 5 grams in 24 hours. Been doing this for 8 months now. This was the option we went with instead of uping to a stronger opiate pain med after being gone on the same med for going on 4 years. I have personally not noticed my tolerance changing. If anything for me the kratom helped with the longevity of my prescribed medication. Bad thing is I travel a lot for work and there is a very large moment in our country to ban kratom. There are states now that it is illegal. From reading on the net it seams law makers are throwing kratom into the same catagory as synthetic marijuana and bath salts. Ridiculous
Quite refreshing to hear that your doc mentioned and reccomended kratom, but less reassuring about the bans... the fear-mongerers are always hard at work.

In my experience, I think it is always better to have opiates a little bit before the kratom, otherwise it doesn't seem to work as well...

This might be a silly question...is kratom in opiate family, or similar?  Does it help if taken during withdrawal?

It is not an opioid--it has a very different chemical structure--it just happens to also bind to opioid receptors. There are other substance that do so that aren't opiods, salvia divinorum for one (although that also has hallucinogenic properties as well).

Menthol is another one, although a weak one.

So if it binds to the same receptors, (lock and key) does it "trick" your brain into believing those receptors are full, and therefore no opiate withdrawal?

It may "trick" your brain because it is filling a similar function but it's possible that addiction is not to a particularly substance but to a particular feeling, if that makes sense. In my own experience I've found it easy to switch addictions between similar substances (meth to cocaine, and alcohol to benzos, both when I was younger).

I am not sure but I've heard that kratom is used not for pain but AFTER the pain. something like you need to use kratom after you have used opiates. though, I am not sure...

it's stupid..same thing the countries its INDIGENOUS to did when people were using it to get out of the opium houses.
