Does anyone here have melasma? I thought at first it was sun damage, so I went to a plastic surgeon’s office and spoke to their aesthetician. That was the first time I ever heard of it. She put me on an Obagi regiment, but that stuff is expensive and it’s only temporary. I looked into microneedling, but meh. Just wondering if other fellow DBG’ers have it and what worked for them.

I have melasma.  Little bit on both sides of cheeks and on my upper lip.  It was so dark, but I'm outside gardening in the sun a lot in the summer, so I started using a lot of sunscreen every 2 hours, as the sun will make melasma worse.  I use retinol a few times a week and azelaic acid a few times a week,  Any time I see signs of irritation , peeling or redness begin, I stop and only use things to help heal the skin.  Irritation can make melasma worse, so any of those signs back off.  This has worked great for myself.  My melasma use to be so much darker and it was embarassing, but now I could hardly notice.  It took about 2 years, so It's a slow process, but so worth the wait.
