Ok I'm in a pickle

just tried to buy something off our lovely Jim at starlite and used money gram as requested.

These were my issues:

i choose cash on pick up for him as didn't understand what "pick up at any agent" meant from Jim.

then the price of the product was in $ but what's that in Philippine ££? Or is it already Philippine $? So if cost is $100 what currency is that?

Then it's cash pick up or transfer and I didn't know which. Then there's 4 more options if u click transfer.

in terms of safety- money gram wants bank details, address full name etc! Then my bank refused transaction then I tried again and bank asked me to call.

so I'm no nearer to purchasing. Going to shop to do it but what do I say? Do I give legit personal details my end?

Please help it's a mind field

Jim should have explained all this to you, it's USD, and of course they want all your details to send to your brother in law, it's to "protect" you from being scammed. It's completely normal to be nervous doing this first time incidentally.

Oh thanks for that.

I did ask for usd as Jim did state but the conversion on the conversion website came up €11 dollars short at post office when doing money gram. I didn't want to change everything as was nervous and wanted to get straight out shop.

i clicked on cash pick up for Jim as didn't know what "pick up from all agents" meant.

i tried to do bank online instead but bank wouldn't let me.

I found the whole system very complex and nerve racking. There needs to be more information on here about how to use mg safely and what to actually say to the shop when they question who it's going too.

The dealings with starlite were very positive though and prompt and helpful so I can't fault them.

Thanks

There is LOTS of information on MG and payment methods in the payments section. Including, what to say, the process etc. Remember when you joined the forum amd you were encouraged to read? These are the type of things you should be researching. The search function is excellent @Requiem. Fear not!

I know this is an old thread but if you are reading this and the vendor takes bitcoin, go for it. Compared to MG, WU & others, Bitcoin is easy peezy and no hassles.

i just went thru the payment hassle with WU and MG with no luck... Then tried  Sharemoney with success. Payment was put on hold until DL pic was sent and phone call.

Did they ask for the receivers verifiable phone number?  I got that far with SM... send DL and went over all their questions but once they asked for phone number request killed the transaction for me.

Every vendor accepting SM has provided phone # to receiver in past experience. If they don’t , they need to get with the program.

  10. Gulp2788 @ Gulp2788: whereas if I use fiat to buy something the money is green anyway. Monero does this really well. Anyway rant over, you can DM me if you'd like to talk more about cryptos.
  11. Gulp2788 @ Gulp2788: I don't really think that people understand the whole point of cryptos in the first place anymore. BTC just won't be adopted by governments because the transactions are too public and what's worse, money that is freshly minted is better than money that has been used. Like if my btc was used for something that was illegal does that mean the money is "poisoned"?
  12. Gulp2788 @ Gulp2788: @xenxra Yeah, Like I said I've never really been that fond of btc, it isn't used as a currency, just as a place for people to invest money in, even though the whole purpose of btc was to be a currency. If it doesn't fulfill that role, what does? Monero certainly does.

  16. D @ dragnetopher: No, I don’t think it. I know it. And it’s not just bitcoin, it’s all crypto. And like I said, they’re selling to acquire liquidity for when countries truly start utilizing what’s been set in place. The USD is under controlled demolition as we speak. This is all part of it.

  18. xenxra @ xenxra: tokenisation is not a plan its already been happening for months, ive been trading this whole move on silver through ethereum
  19. xenxra @ xenxra: you think whales are dumping bitcoin because of something everyone has known about for like 4 years? what does bitcoin liquidity have to do with trading tokenized assets? they don't have pooled liquidity.
  20. D @ dragnetopher: Whales are tanking BTC due to the fact that the future is coming now, literally. There’s a plan to tokenize every single asset possible. This is whales dumping so they can have liquidity for the Springtime.
