How does one go about giving a donation? Do you buy bit coins? Or can you just use a debit card?

 
Welcome @Partyboy,yes donation is by bitcoin. There is a ton of info on this site about it in the payments section especially. A few links in the Welcome to DBG section, and even a good old Web search would help also!
