Im creating this thread as sort of a harm reduction, just REALLY hoping this works, I plan on showing this to my mate so please read on and give honest feedback.
I have a good mate I went to primary school so we are very close and I know him rather well, his never been much into drugs but has experimented with a few illegal substances, he did smoke A LOT of weed but has recently stopped and im really happy for him! Although he does like the occasional session and will try just about anything once (I think) Years ago I worked with a H addict and I ended up getting a point off him and went around to my mates house and we both shared it (Chased the dragon) So I know he has a taste for opium.. Im 99% sure he's also taken Panadeine Extra (30mg codeine/ 500mg Paracetamol) and im even more sure he would have taken between 4-8 in one hit and gotten quite high I'd imagine but it's hard to get from Drs in Australia so I know his not getting those, often at least, however I have noticed him taking Panadeine Extra before (15mg Codeine / 500mg Paracetamol) which is sold OTC here, I didn't think much of it at first until I started noticing since his stopped smoking weed that I think MAYBE his Codeine usage has gone up, thinking back now he actually has taken quite a bit.. Possibly 3-5 years, on and off or next to daily, im not too sure.
I myself have done quite a lot of CWE's in my time and have made him one before just for a fun night, I myself do WAY too many CWE's! My tolerance is 300mg-600mg+
Him and his GF have just brought a new house and are at that point in life where they have a lot of bills to pay and despite what I see and hear he denies taking it often and so does his GF and I've spoken to him about it many time and even though many might not agree, I've told him to do a CWE because taking Paracetamol daily is going to cause major problems down the line and to top it off his also trying to have a child with his GF and im worried at this rate he might not see another 10 years.. I've showed him how to do CWE since I know his taking Codeine, I'd rather see him do CWE's than pop god knows how many pills.. I will buy what he needs to do a CWE if it meant he'd actually do it but I guess it's just easier for him to pop the pills, little lazy maybe when it comes to this as swollimgs a pill is much faster than a CWE yet at what costs I says?
After all my efforts and his financial situation I said to him one night, Why don't you just buy Nurofen Plus (12.5mg Codeine / 200mg ibuprofen) and he said "What does ibuprofen do" I said nothing, it's the Codeine it that makes you feel so good, just like Panadeine Extra, it's the Codeine that makes you feel good, has nothing to do with the paracetamol (Im coming from a recreational point of view here obviously, I know ibuprofen is an anti inflammatory and what it's most commonly used for and Paracetamol is a mild pain killer) However I cant MAKE him stop so im trying ever which way to help him in any way I possibly can, even if it's only financially but I'd hope ibuprofen would be slighty better than Paracetamol (APAP) as it is pretty toxic im lead to believe, not too sure how it racks up against ibuprofen though.. I know which one I'd rather take.
And he replied in an uncertain voice "Nah I think it does" I know he knows pretty much nothing about drug besides the fact that some can get you high but to think Paracetamol is contributing to his high from Panadeine Extra? He simply doesn't know any better and that in itself is worrying so please no hate!
By all means im no Dr myself yet I use google and do some research, Really im not sure if he knows what serotonin is.. He wouldn't have a clue what SSRIs drugs are.. Probably doesn't know the difference or what is synthetic and what is a real Opium.. Besides Valium and Xanax I don't think he could name any other Benzodiazepine (Not even sure if he knows what Benzodiazepine's are yet he takes and love's them) Not sure if he even knows what Alprazolam is..
I have tried reaching out to his GF to help but she is convinced he is not abusing ANY drugs and that has no problem, she says she buy's his drugs/meds for him and knows what he takes.. Yet I realize now for years he might have been doing this and with the record kept in Australia of how much Codeine you buy OTC, perhaps he cant buy it himself anymore?
Im REALLY worried about him, his like a brother to me, im worried about his paracetamol intake, im not sure if his taking 4 Panadeine extra daily (Deferentially wouldn't surprise me if he took up to 12 within 24 hours) MAYBE his only taking 6 pills 3 times a week (Only to get high on Codeine I believe) So how dangerous is that? What would 10 years of 4000mg of Paracetamol on a daily basis do?? What about 2000mg daily for 10 years? 3000mg 4 days a week? Im not sure what his intake is exactly but I know for a fact his not taking them for pain 90% of the time. I've told him what it does and his admitted to pains in the guy and bladder after taking Panadeine Extra so clearly it must be more than 2-4 pills, right?
He went through a faze of drinking Alcohol after quitting weed and would drink a full bottle of straight Jim Bean to the point where he's be vomiting and waking up not knowing what happened but lucky his GF was their to look after him..
With Codeine abuse in the past, quitting weed and changing to booze to point of not being able to control it (He's stopped drinking now) Is he at risk of developing a problem with Codeine? If he hasn't already.. And I'd like to repeat this again, CWE is too much work for him despite me showing him several times step by step what to do and how easy it is and how to dose.. I told could take up to 45mins if using coffee filters and his reply was "F**k that!" so I dunno, does he not care or not understand? don't judge here because im sure your not perfect yourself yet 40 pills = 6oomg Codeine, add to 300mL water and do a CWE, he then asked me "How do I know how much to drink" ...
So maths is not his strong point obviously but on top of my growing worry about Paracetamol his GF is now being prescribed Tramadol 100mg for legit reasons, now he didn't know what they really where, I don't think.. Im sure all he knew was they are pain killer so he could get high, im not sure if his taken Tramadol before and im not sure what his GF's Dr has recommended as her dosage.. My guess is 1 tablet 2x daily at max but I really wouldn't know for sure. Yet he told me he took 5 off them right off the bat! I told him that was stupid! Absolutely F**KING stupid!! Told him 400mg is the max dose (I should have continued to talk and tell him how many seizures Tramadol causes without warning) but instead of doing so I let him speak and his reply was "Oh next time I'll just take 4 then"
I don't know if his GF gave him a strip of Tramadol and he took 5 without her knowing he'd so such a thing or what the story is yet she denies any problem and as a matter of fact I think she said to me that my problem is that I think he has a problem and I need to stop stressing about it because she buys his Codeine (For whatever reason) and keeps an eye on him and knows his not abusing yet, its all under control.. But what happened with 500mg Tramadol in one hit I wonder.. It's beyond me and "Next time I'll only take 4 pills" is a red flag for me.
She can't have eyes on him 24/7, he could have Panadeine Extra in his car or locker and work for all anyone knows and it kills me that his clearly not aware of the risks involved!
How dangerous is it to take 500mg Tramadol with or without research (He did so with no research & could have been his first time using Tramadol) How dangerous is 400mg Tramadol ALL in on hit?? Possibly with Codeine taking on the same day and no hesitation to drink alcohol if he felt like it.. Will he always be this lucky? Could he safely take 200mg Tramadol once or twice a week? Or for that matter could he take 200mg Tramadol all at once only once every 6 months and not have to worry about seizures?
I just don't know what to do.. I wanna just do some chemist shopping myself, make a few liters of Codeine water using CWE method, freeze it and just give it all to him and tell him to take one out of the freezer the at night before he goes to bed then drink it within 2-3 days (I'd have to tell him use a 30mL = roughly 6 Panadeine Extra Tablets (60mg) or throw it away after a few days if he doesn't drink it and good on ya if you do throw it away! Yet he says his not taking anything so maybe his right but it was only yesterday someone told me they seen him with Nurofen Plus.. So perhaps his taken my advice and gone to Nurofen Plus for financial and or addiction reasons as Panadeine Extra Generic is $18 for 40 pills which will giver you 600mg Codeine (Which is what I myself buy but have never seen or heard of him with anything other than the actual Panadol brand in 24 packs or maybe 12) You could spend $15 on a 24 pack of Panadeine Extra in 24's which is quite costly.. Nurofen Plus however in Generic Brand comes as low as $7 for 30 pills which is 375mg so for his financial sake I had to suggest he switch because he can get 3x more Codeine for the same price.. His going to buy Codeine no matter what so I might as well suggest a cheaper alternative which he didn't even know about..
Anyway im depend on Codeine myself and am currently taking 0.6-.08mg Buprenorphine daily help me get my life back, I abused Oxycotin and could EASILY go through 900mg+ of Codeine daily by doing CWE, I've been using Codeine for almost 10 years now and Oxy whenever I can get my hands on it, OC sniffed or OP chewed a little with a CWE for a Nod but currently on my 3rd day on Buprenorphine, so lets not turn this into a thread about my addiction, please remember I have made this thread as my mate will not listen to me and im REALLY worried, his GF thinks he has no problem whats so ever yet he took 500mg Tramadol uneducated and might very well take 400mg all in one go again in the future.. And again, then again.. Usually you take the ladder don't you? Start on 500mg work your way up? Not start at 500mg then work you way down? In cases like these..
Apparently im over reacting according to both him & his GF.. Tramadol is nothing to worry about I assume they think, he wont seizure, his perfectly fine, I even sent them both links to show the dangers and im not sure if they read it or not.. Please tell me if you think my mate has a problem, how much Paracetamol is too much Paracetamol? If he wants/must take Codeine should he go a different way about it like CWE as opposed to popping the pills? Will he survive his next dose of 400mg Tramadol? What about mixing both Codeine and Tramadol as im 100% positive he would (If he does that is) take Codeine during the day, maybe even for real pain at work, then come home and take 200mg Tramadol maybe.. Just, half the dose of what he told me he' take next.. Will that cause an issue?
Am I over reacting like his GF thinks I am?? Or do I have every right to not only be concerned but be correct that this is VERY dangerous and after hearing him say he took 500mg Tramadol first time off the bat all in one hit my worry level has now hit a all time high and I don't think I am over reacting, what do you think?? they both wont listen to me, so perhaps some here can shed some light for me please?
