S vs R isomer

Hi all,

I’ve noticed that, just like how cannabis concentrates come in many different consistencies, ketamine also appears in a variety of final forms—shards, crystalline poles, rocks, sand, etc.

A lot of vendors market their products as being “S” or “R,” with the suggestion that these produce different effects. My understanding, though, is that according to DanceSafe, essentially all material outside of pharmaceutical channels is racemic (a mix of both isomers). They state that unless you’re dealing with pharmaceutical S-ketamine (like the kind manufactured for medical use), you won’t find isolated isomers.

This leaves me wondering:

Is the “S” or “R” labeling more of a marketing shorthand for crystal form (e.g., shards vs. rocks vs. powder) rather than true isomer content?

Is it common for vendors to claim to have products like Spravato, when in reality it’s just their own ketamine dissolved in saline?

I’ve heard of some testing facilities even offering bounties for verified pure samples. Has anyone come across this?

And finally, with tolerance being a big factor, does it eventually make it nearly impossible to distinguish between racemic vs. supposed S/R batches based on effects alone?

If this has already been discussed in depth, feel free to point me toward an existing thread—I don’t want to clutter the board.

Thanks for any clarity you can offer, and I really appreciate how thoughtful and informative this forum community has been.

I appreciate this question. I was under the impression that is it’s labeled S it truly is that isometric composition. I feel the difference with Rocky products. However that could be influenced by my beliefs that it is a different isomer. Hope an individual more educated in this responds.

I am not commenting on a particular product from any vendor!
Just more so general observations or speculation from a couple years going down the hole.

I was really impressed with some of the medically prescribed lozenges I was recieving a while back.

I mean with how little about synthesis is really known from my perspective the end result of the final forms could be no more than a matter of some chemistry or a specific precursor etc

Shards / poles or rods could just basically be the same thing as sugar or sand just before they are ground?

Rock grinds to a fine powder and doesnt seem to splinter to shards so perhaps that is the byproduct of a unique synthesis type of thing?

Who knows.

  19. D @ drdrizzy13: Yeah it was definitely a hold. Can't blame the refs for calling it. But I've seen many sketchy calls in the past to help the spread or over/under lol.
  20. Maelstrom @ Maelstrom: Wonder how much money was impacted by that last touchdown and holding call back. The refs were flirting with the over/under payoffs… that flag either cost a lot people some money or won them a bunch. But I guess you can’t say it was a bad call, just a very impactful one.
