I suffer from debilitating chronic pain from several afflictions. two that i think hurt the most is epstein barr and fibro mialgia.  I also have bad ibs and gerd, osteo arthritis disc nerve and back problems and always fighting chronic thrush because meds im on for stuff. oops oh yea, i have graves and im  diabetic B,

I find most days lately hard as I cant push through the pain, Lots of the time im in bed because its hurts to much to move. I recently moved to florida and pain managment down here because they pill milla that where shut, is non exsistant.  Used to be i had my meds and could function. Now that i dont i have more days then i like in bed.

I do get PK's but there so expensive so i only get a few each month...I need something long term and im hoping to find that soon.

I put this post up so that any pain suffers have people to lean on and maybe we can share out tips ands tricks to get through things...:), I also have Aspergers its on the autism spectrum, so please forgive me if i tend to ramble /default_smile.png

I am also in Florida, is it really that hard to find good pain management down here? I have thought of trying but I feel I'm too young and because of that Doctors don't take my pain seriously. They think I just seek drugs.

I have heard poppy seed tea is relatively cheap and works wonders for reliving pain!

no idea about poppy seed tea, so far for me its been hard.  If you look at me i (look) fine but my insides are not.....with the war on pill recently yes its really hard to get anything substantial.  The other week i was just dying so i went to my gp here, he saw that i was completely in pain and wrote me a script for a weeks worth of p's...thank the lord for him.  I dont want to do that to much because i dont want him to think im pill seeking either..:s  I went to a pm doc down here and they gave me anti inflammatory, which kill my stomach, flexeril, and gabapenten which just stopped working : , even on thehigher dose for me.  Then again i been on it several yrs.

My old doc i had 100mcg fent@nyl patches, and p's or R's for break through pain......even that didnt always work but it did keep me functioning most of the time.  Im hoping that i do find someone, there HAS GOT TO BE SOMEONE DOWN HERE, that helps people. So ill just keep inquiring...

May i ask where in florida are you?

You may want to look at the kratom threads in kratom forums on here, I bought some the other day, for others it works complacently, me it helped get me through the last few days without my meds a bit....but its not expensive and with some people it helps so much.  I never heard about poppy seed tea, i think ill look into it.

Seethats why i did this thread /default_smile.png

btw if ur in that much pain go and see, first u need to be reffered your doctor so just ask him to refer you, maybe you will end up with something that helps you...age has nothing to do with it...

God, I feel for you Sad,

I too suffer mainly chronic neck, radicular nerve pain from a degenerative disc/nerve damage (entrapment I think they call it) issues from multiple car rear-endings. First one ( the worst one) by a drunk driver over 25 years ago..."he" never got charged, sadly, as I had a concussion and no witnesses to my seeing him swerving around behind me before impact, after I observed he and his passenger leave a bar and get into the very truck, that minutes later struck me, stone-still at a red light. Alas, I was young, single mom, no insurance, new job. You don't fight...

Anyway, I digress. Whiplash pain was there; looking back, i should have been in a full neck brace at least a couple of weeks; I should have had lots of treatment; alas, life goes on; and then 2 more rear-enders, within a few years, to add to the damage. Funny, I had rare, intermittent pain, first couple of years after #1 RE (being relatively well, young, healthy) and even after #2, and #3, but now OMG, last five years have been brutal. PEOPLE: when you have soft-tissue whiplash damage, it is VERY, VERY, CRITICAL, to get checked out by a very competent: Chiro; PT, and therapeutic massage therapist WITHOUT DELAY. Soft tissue damage is very insidious in that if not dealt with at the time of injury, often reappears, with even more damage, disability and pain later in life as I am finding.  I didn't have this treatment, hence my condition is as extreme as it is. I do now see a pain specialist and so far (this is CA, not FL) get my monthly visit-refills for Noorcocoas@10; and periodical steroid injections. Yes, I have good insurance and I am able (barely) to work a FT job....

I am very curious Sad, about gabapenten; what is it and what does it do?

thank you for starting this thread

Poppyseed

I'm sorry to hear about your medical issues and there are alternatives on the board but you will probably pay more than you already are. This forum offers members other options and opinions but it's still going to cost you $$$'s. Sorry to burst your bubble. But the choice is yours if you decide to spend the extra.

Hi Sadminion,

There is no reason you should have to suffer I do understand that in the State of FL they have cracked the whip down big time it has gotten a lot of the Pm Docs pen shy now but I am guessing your old Pm Click took heath insurance? Now if you can afford to pay cash you can find a few clinics they only do prescription medication management but they have changed into cash only clinics as to have to deal with a lot of the red tape with the government they run anywhere from 350.00-550.00 and are set on either a ever month or every other month so find one you will have to just use goog and look for prescription medication management Clinics/ or Doctors you mite have to drive a bit depending on your location as most are in bigger city's Good Luck And Hope This Help's You A big Cheers,

Dr.A

I heard about them, but who have over five hundred a month to spend, plus my normal meds cost that..I don't have 1000. A month to spend.  I do have insurance noew but its crap..ty for posting though..and head banger I see what u mean..

Is it OTC? Prescription? Can u provide more info on how to get it?

thank u

Poppy
hi Poppy, It is not over the counter but dr.'s don't mind giving it out like they do with p/k's.  I am prescribed gaba-pentin because I told my dr, I had pain in my legs and didn't know if it was fibro or what.  When i first started taking them the pain went away completely but does not work so well now.  The way it was prescribed I had to work my way up to 3 times a day and after a while I noticed that my short term memory was shot to the point where I thought I was getting early Alzhiemers.  She told me it was the side effects of the gaba and told me to stop the 3rd. one and my head cleared up immediately.  So now I just take it once a day before bed.  It is prescribed for nerve pain like fibromyalsia which I thought I had but now I'm not so sure.

Hi Suzie, wow, had no idea I could add a tool to my CP arsenal.  Thank you for taking the time. Much appreciation!

Sorry when i posted I didnt see your other post.  Gab helps but it really does need to build up. I helps at first, being on it a few yrs I think it has stopped helping,  My doc tried to buff the dosage up in hopes that it would help me,.  All it did was make my memory go bye bye...which was so annoying..I felt like I had Alzheimers.  So I went down to one a day as well. I do find if i dont take it at all. My pain is so much worse.  So i guess it does work on me still just not as well.  But if you just start it and find a dose that works or you, it should work for a few yrs before all this...and doctors dont mind prescribing it at all, but you do need a script.  On the net it really isnt that expensive either. Im guessing just because its very available .:)

Hope that helps some.. /default_smile.png  xx

I thought them changing into cash only clinics had less to do with red tape from the government and more to do with them not having as many chart audits from insurance companies.

Meaning for example, Blue Cross and Blue Shield is not able to to waltz in and start asking questions based on a patience chart history as to why a long acting morphine such as Avinza/ kadian before hitting the hard stuff like oxy 40 mgs with breakthrough flareup med such as oxy 15s. or whatever is preferred before those drugs on that particular insurance formulary. The fact of the matter is, they can never really avoid the government red tape now that the patient monitoring system is in place. And so, they choose to maximize their profits rather than receiving whatever it is that Medicaid will pay vs whatever it is that they want to charge. Very little to do with government red tape and more to do with absolute greed and corruption. Do you practice here in the united states with your knowledge of what's going on in Florida or in the UK?
