Strange Occurrences with Shipping - Should I be Concerned?

Hi,

I've been a lurker to this point, benefitting from the tremendous wealth of knowledge, awesome people, and of course super professional vendors in this communnity. Up until recently, haven't had a single problem and have got lucky with the regular rotation of vendors that I've relied on and who haven't let me down. Unfortunately, I've had two weird things related to the four-letter demon happen within a short time span, and wanted to ask more experienced folks if this is pure bad luck/coincidence, or if there's a chance I need to lay low/be concerned. This concerns two separate vendors, both of whom are awesome, super professional, and I have zero intention of badmouthing or blaming them, so they shall go unnamed. My only intention is to gather more info on what, if anything, is up.

First, I had the classic "in mailbox" with no corresponding reading materials to be found. It's been weeks, still haven't shown up. I decided not to follow up since it was only part of the book and the other pages arrived without a hitch.

But the second occurrence is weirder and has me concerned. I was excited about receiving a nice order with a lovely author whose books I greatly admire, and whose speed of writing is second to none. The book arrived on my doorstep at the usual time, I open it and...empty. There are no pages inside, just some packing paper. I spent a few hours tearing the book, inspecting every potential page - nothing. To repeat: this is one of the most trusted vendors in the community, and I want to emphasize - I am not blaming them in the slightest. They were surprised, and pointed out that they are not in the business of sending empty packs.

Now, the book did not seem to have been read, nothing strange in the EYE DEE, everything else normal. My question is mostly about this second occurrence - everyone is human, and if you had to think of an explanation, is the likeliest just a once in a million mistake by an otherwise perfecft author? Is there a chance that something darker is at play - I like to think not, since this doesn't seem to be a very effective way of building a case, but wanted to put this out there as I'm a little on edge and am not sure whether to read any more books for the time being.

Thank you all.

I’m not typically a worrier about these things, but if my absolute trusted vendor who never remotely messes anything up for anyone sent me an empty pack, I’d immediately assume it was intercepted and likely move, clean house, clean devices and lay low. I’m not paranoid, but it seems like you know this vendor well so just my opinion on if it was me with the vendor I feel I know tge sane way.

  1. Alkazar @ Alkazar: It is really annoying\
  2. Alkazar @ Alkazar: Technically they were forced back to work the last time they went on strike in 2024, so this is the same strike for the same reasons in 2025.
  3. Alkazar @ Alkazar: I dont know how to direct reply to people on here. But the Canada Post strike will affect any mail coming from the US. It will be held at a facility until the striek is over. Mail that is being sent from CAD to the US will just not be picked up. It all has to be private delivery services now.
