Thanksgiving And Christmas

Just a few thoughts from me. I experienced two firsts this year! One was on Thanksgiving day when my wife and daughter traveled to Savannah Ga to visit one of my daughter's friends who had their first little girl about 4 months ago. I stayed at home by myself, not because of not being invited, it just seemed the right thing to do. So a guy being at home with his daughter's dog, plenty of football, beer, and MM, you think he'd have a good time but it was almost living the part of Christmas future in the Christmas carol. As I sat here on the Friday after Thanksgiving day I kept saying to myself, this is tough, I'd hate to have to go through this each year by myself. Secondly I had to go ahead and finish up my vacation days due to some events later this month so I took the first Friday and Monday off in December. Our family being me , my wife, my son, and daughter always had a tradition of decorating the Christmas tree together and listening to Christmas carols. Now this really hasn't taken place with the entire family since 2006 the year my son entered the USAF after college, however, the remainder of the family being my daughter and wife kept the tradition going. This year I did it alone as my wife had to work, my daughter was working, and my son, well the military has managed to keep him away from home for Christmas since 2009 and with our schedule being what it is, it had to be done. Change is inevitable and change has occurred in our family and in our lives in a tremendous way. As a father I am extremely proud of my two children, both have great careers, although still single, are enjoying their life. My wife and I are enjoying some of the best years we've ever had but it just seems like something is missing. I can't quite put my finger on it but this year for one of the first times in my life, I just haven't felt the same old Christmas spirit. I attributed most of it to the aging process, my wife just tells me I'm getting sentimental in my older years. To me I take it as that it has finally sunk in that the change I've seen is permanent and will forever be this way or if and when the children get married may change even more. Right now it just seems like more of a "blue Christmas." I guess I'll just to work harder to get out of this funk I'm in. I hope that each and everyone of you enjoy a most wonderful Christmas and A Happy New Year!

 
@JT: maybe it's something in the water, ? cuz I'm feeling the same way. First time EVER that I haven't been REALLY in the Christmas Spirit. I have always gone all out - gifts, baking, decorating... nothing this year. I'm just not feeling it. AT ALL. WTH? It's extremely unsettling! I haven't had much in the way of " change" this year...I honestly don't know what it is, but it definitely sucks!!

Hoping it gets better!!

Thanks for sentiments, at least I know I'm not the only one feeling this way! This upcoming weekend will be a busy weekend for us, party tonight, tomorrow night, and a big Christmas dinner Monday night. I'm hoping that with all of the friends, the conversations, and the celebrations, the Christmas spirit will be kicked into high gear!

 
JT, nothing wrong with a little x-mas spirit.  I can't say I have had a situation like yours, however something simular.  When I find myself working towards a little funk, I'll go to a mall or somewhere I can get some x-mas emerssion.  Nice to be around the music playing and stores decorated.  I am always on the look out for spots to fill the void when the need arises.

Sounds like you have a wounderful family.  Enjoy and have a Merry Christmans.

 
I have to say that things changed as it got closer to Christmas. For one thing my son who is in the military surprised us by showing up unannounced on Christmas Eve with my daughter. It was the best present a parent could receive. We know that he is heading to Korea and then on to Germany after that so there had been many a discussion about when we would all get together again through email and texts. This was the first Christmas since 2009 that we had the entire family home at the same time. I have to admit the blessings of their presence made it all worthwhile. God is good and Life is good, hope everyone had a most blessed Christmas and looking forward to the New Year. My son will be here till Jan 3rd and we will ring in the New Year with a 15 year old bottle of scotch for the occasion. Well not the whole bottle but a drink or two. Have a great day.

Nothing was in the system. It was a huge mess. I had no clue I was signing up for Real ID. They asked me for the exact same documents that I needed for a State ID Card.

  11. B @ bigblueallda: @drjimmy1964 In my state to get a Real ID, I need SS card, Birth Certificate and two proofs of residency. Which I am positive I had to provide to get a new ID when it had been expired.

  13. B @ bigblueallda: I haven't flown in an airplane in 20 years lol. Can't recall the last government building I have been in either. According to the symbol it tells me I should have on my ID to make it a Real ID I do have one in my state

B @ bigblueallda: {Visit your local Driver Service Bureau with the necessary documents: original birth certificate, Social Security card, and two proofs of your state's residency. } I definitely provided this when I had to get a new ID when i let mine go expired too long maybe I unknowingly got one but I think it is pretty standard here.
