I was going to make a thread on this earlier...considering polls close in just over 3 hours, I guess I'm a bit late. But it will be an interesting one. I keep my political beliefs to myself, but I'm hoping for some change, I'm sick of being governed by piggy traitors.

Any thoughts from the others in the UK?

Yeah, I will be devastated at any gains the SNP make.

What is the biggest fear of the citizens of GB of a particular candidate getting elected?

Us yanks over here have to deal with the fact that Hillary will be the next Prez. And I've got no problem with a woman Prez  it's just I don't think she has a plan to keep the country moving in the right direction.  And I think she will get disrespected just like Obama did by Congress and nothing will get accomplished.

I've got lots of fears here, everyone will differ, I hate Labour and Conservatives in near equal measure and this campaign has been drenched in slander and lies. Our system is broken, I vote for smaller parties and even though nationwide their share is massive, their seat number is less than 5. The system is broken, it should be proportional, that would be democratic.

But I'm always scared of results, the traitors and piggies will never be voted out.

Disaster up my end of the country smoka, SNP got 56 out of 59 seats in Scotland.  1 labour, 1 libdem and one conservative seat left. I am astonished. They accrued 50% of the vote overall.

I'm guessing you're up in/near Scotland then....yeah,,,that SNP surge was unexpected. At least a labour-SNP pact didn't happen and hopefully the SNP won't wield much power in Westminster. But I guess the implications in Holyrood is an SNP government basically...I'm sure there will be another referendum soon. Nicola Sturgeon annoyed me, she's like an annoying little terrier.

I'm in England, and I'm glad Labour fell on their arses, but I'm no Tory fan. My political allegiances are informed though, I'm not ignorant. But the First past the Post system is stifling democracy, later I want to work out what seats a proportional representation would have got...many voters are ignored with this system.

One saving grace was seeing the vile George Galloway lose his seat, he needs to be hung, drawn and quartered, the traitorous little rat, haha.

You guys had your fun. Now sit back and watch who will be elected to be the leader of the second most powerful country on the planet next year.

Lol Smoka. The scary side of politics is the side the public never finds out about or we get the bullshit story. It's sad how giving a human being control and power then they start abusing it and usually abusing people. It's all part of life I guess.

He is a fucking vile creature smoka, you are right. I am looking at the positives here, I am reasonably content Cameron has an overall majority and can form a government. The SNP gains in Scotland are more to do with Labour having taken the people for granted for too long. They got about 50% of the vote up here, but that doesn't mean 50% of people want to separate the union. Thank fuck. That last referendum has left a bad taste in the mouth since, and as gutted as I am at the SNP gains, I expect them to be temporary. Well for 5 years.

I'm seeing positives too, or trying to. Even though I don't think the Tories/Cameron will do the country any favours, I think Tony Blair fractured our society, pretty much vandalised and we are seeing the negative effects now, and will do for a while to come. Ed Miliband is a moron and I was quite happy to see him fail. Ed Balls losing his seat too, haha.

But looking at the overall results, the national vote share = seats won sickens me every time. With proportional representation, UKIP would have got around 80 seats, not 1. Greens would have got around 50, not 1. The only parties to have lost out would have been Tories, Labour and the SNP. This is why they keep the archaic First Past the Post. I voted yes with the AV referendum but sadly I was in the minority.

What was the AV referendum? The Scottish parliament uses proportional representation too. As well as constituency MSP'S you get list MSPs for large areas, like central Scotland,  south West etc. Gives a good spread. Technically, as well as having a constituency msp, I have another 6 list MSPs too. I like the idea of it Anyway.

The alternative vote referendum in 2011. The Lib Dems pushed for it. It proposed a system of voting where you would give preference to certain parties by putting numbers, 1, 2 and so on next to the parties you like the most. Apparently it confused a lot of people, people went for what they knew; the straightforward but out of date first past the post system. Alternative vote was a step forward, but I think it's only a step forward.

We need to ditch the idea of having an MP for your constituency and give much more power to local government and councils. MPs don't 'serve their area' anymore, populations are too high. MPs in Parliament should be appointed proportionally in relation to their vote share. They will govern the country, debate, negotiate and agree, while first past the post elected local councils have more power and 'serve their area'.

But I think we're in a lose-lose situation. If the AV was yes, we would keep that and not move to full proportional representation, but because we voted no, the issue will be buried now for at least a couple of generations. If the idea reform comes up in Parliament, the Tory and Labour rats will just claim that 'the British public said no'. Neither of those parties will have anything to gain from voting reform; in fact, they will lose a lot.

Sorry for the ramble, but this is something I am passionate about.

Oh, and George Galloway is contesting his results, what a loser. He lost by thousands of votes.

I think that referendum was held only England/Wales. I am not a great fan of centralising everything either, that's all the SNP have done since taking majority at Holyrood. Galloway is a fine speaker, but a fool and he has lost his mind. I must admit I did admire him making a total fool of the US Senate in person that time a few years ago however.

Well, I think the whole of the UK is done with referendums...shame we should be getting an EU one by 2017. Oh.

I've got to say, nothing George Galloway has done or said grabs me. I loathe everything about him. Grr. And why was he wearing a stupid hat at the vote declaration? I bet people got him mixed up with the Monster Raving Loony party.

As I said, I don't care for him at all, but I can appreciate a fine orator. Salmond is the same, total arsehole, but speaks well. Though i agree with nothing they say.

Competent speakers can and do sway the masses...history shows that. =(

I always am suspicious of people like that.

Exactly! I think I was building up to it, we would have arrived at Hitler sooner or later! ?
