Good sleeping pills to knock me out

Hey guys, I am currently sleeping poorly and want a pill which works good and can quickly knock me out. I unfortunately am facing problems with my health and because of this I like to sleep for 14+ hrs yet lately it's been hard to get any sleep. I'm interested what you guys would recommend in these conditions. I'd be glad to hear about any pills which could knock me out for a good amount of time with a lack of any major side effects hopefully.

Most if not all benzo sleepers have issues when used regularly as do any of the z drug hypnotics.I would try something natural like melotonin or valerian root which are available from health stores.seroquel is supposed to be quite good in small doses but something that knocks you out for 14hrs would be a heavy duty barbiturate but they are hardly if ever prescribed nowadays. You could try temazepam or Nitrazapam  but both are addictive and tolerance can become an issue?.

Maybe it would be better to redose a lighter sleep aid after 7 hours vs taking something so strong that you are knocked out for 14 hours straight. Unisom works pretty well for me but only for a normal nights sleep .

Your right 2earls even now nightol works for me . However I just buy the pharmacy own brand ones which are identical in ingredients but half the price, which is so often the case you are paying for the brand name!!.

Yes indeed, I only said Unisom because I forgot what the active ingredient is, but the generic is just as good. Doxylamine succinate, checked the bottle. Good stuff.

My gf gives me an @mbien every once in a while and I sleep like a brick on that stuff.  I'm pretty sure @mbien is just to help you fall asleep and not stay asleep but damn that stuff knocks me out for at least 8-10hrs, but there can be some nasty side effects from what I hear.   Anyway I agree with 2earls, try some OTC stuff first, i know unisom did help me the few times I took it. But like 2earls and Bliss said def go generic, exact same ingredients when you compare the boxes.

If you take Ambien and go straight to bed there are not usually any side effects to be concerned about.

If you don't go to bed or take more than you should and don't go straight to bed, you could wake up the next day with a 500 quid telephone bill or find that you've been midnight shopping at a distant Superstore and spent a lot of cash. You probably won't remember what you did, which can be a highly dangerous side effect!

There's a specific OTC that many people overlook called Z-Quill (makers of NyQuill) which comes in both capsule and liquid form. The capsules do virtually nothing and it's a waste of money but the liquid will knock you out in 15-20 minutes at max for most people. Make sure you look into the one with alcohol in it, strengthens the effect. If you're familiar with benzos and looking for a stronger one look for Nip@m. There's also a good sleep aid used for insomnia called Zopiclone, seems to do the job aswell.

That's not entirely true seeing most of the popular benzos out there only have sedative properties, not hypnotic. There's some like Nip@m that are hypnotic benzos but beyond that it's mainly sedative -- this is from years of experience using them on a daily basis to treat a chronic anxiety disorder. It's best to get the real deal, not the off brands either. Worth the extra penny seeing the real deal offers extra strength most of the time.

I've never heard of it, do doctors generally prescribe it or is it out of the ordinary that they'd give it a shot?

I'm talking about otc sleep aids VII such as unisom and nytol look at the ingredients of them and often you get store own brands with EXACTLY the same ingredients ie doxylamine at the same mg content.....

My boyfriend is addicted to Nytol. He can take a whole pack at once. Can't get him to stop.

This is a touchy subject, but let's take it step by step. For one, I know the drug first hand, I have the opposite reaction to it so I always have to say I'm "allergic" to the medication when I go to the doctor. The addiction, however, is very real and getting an addict off their normal routine is not easy. Not only do they have to be willing but they have to be mentally prepared. It sounds like some very specific notable substances in this drug that he's addicted to, seeing your worried have you attempted to see if he'll take less?

In any point in time when addiction comes into play, taking even a small dose less is a huge step which is why I asked. There are alternatives to the medication which are OTC that have similar, if not the same effects at a cheaper price. Seeing that his brain is dependent on the drug, I'd suggest maybe looking into the OTC solutions and see if he's willing to try those instead of Nytol. He would be surprised with the results seeing the effects are the same, but he will gradually be taperd off Nytol seeing his brain has a dependency on the active ingredients.

I know a woman that is addicted to numerous drugs including some of the "harder" drugs out there, there's no convincing them and not to mention if you try to ask them to stop things could potentially get violent so it's best not to interfere directly in that situation which is why it's a sensitive topic to talk about. If he's developing abusive behavior rather it's mental abuse (controlling who you see, if you work, where you go, and so forth) or physical abuse which does not need an explanation you need to seek help immediately and this is a good start.

Can you please make a topic more descriptive about the situation so others can give further advice? I'd like to help as much as I can and there's many people here that have experience with such things that are more than willing to help with this.

Best wishes and stay safe,

-VII

Nytol is a otc medication VII,ElectroNymph says her ex is addicted to this otc medication,I've taken large amounts of the said med when in wds from H which I found was horrible and didn't help with my sleep problems.Which wasn't much of a surprise really as sleep depravation goes hand in hand with opiate wds....

It actually has a speed-like effect in large quantities.

Which is why he does it, unfortunately.

Apart from that I can't see the attraction. I had 8 once and I thought I was going to die, massive palpitations.

Similar experience with me ElectroNymph most unpleasant especially when withdrawing ?

Best just to take things in moderation unless it is safe to take a few extra. Nytol, won't kill you but chemists warn you every time you buy it.

I doubt many of us haven't had a 'benzo binge' (for example) but unless you have an addiction, it's best to just take what you need for calming, anti anxiety purposes. Just my opinion.

I've heard @mbien is very efffective (never tried it), then there's midazolam and brotizolam - but then you have cost and addiction to contend with.

I've got a little zop and a little zolp for when my taper finishes, I think the zop will be more useful, as I really do not want hangover effect the next day. I found Nitr@@@Z gave me that hangover feeling too. Though it might have been the brand.

The only Nitraz that helped me sleep and gave me unbelieveable euphoria is Roche. The rest don't cut it. Try SL.

I have dealt with insomnia all of my life.  After taking Ambien and similar drugs, OTC's like sominex (benadryl) and unisom (d, succinate), and benzos (such as restoril), Trazodone has been the most consistent with no tolerance issues and minimal addiction issues.  I would recommend to anyone that cannot find a long term solution.  It has been a lifesaver for me.  It's not difficult to get a script either.  My 2 cents.
