The Most Euphoric Benzo

I honestly don't find benzos to be euphoric for the most part, with the exception of temazepam.  I think temazepam has a slight euphoric effect.  What do you guys think?

I personally have never found any benzo to have the slightest euphoric affect. Most beneficial for other properties, but not to experience euphoria.

I actually have a quit euphoric effect from the IM diazepam @ 10mg a vial, other than that nothing really.

All of them knock me out. The only one I don't care for is Klonopin.  Benzos help me sleep or calm down.  Most meds with euphoric effects are pain meds, and I don't recommend them unless you are in pain. JMO

^ I don't care for k-pins either. I also don't take benzos to get high, so I keep my doses small to manage GAD and panic attacks. That being said, I find Valium or Ativan to be most enjoyable. I don't find I get euphoria from them, just the mood boost, stress relief, and the confidence increase is what I enjoy and find useful for me.

As I described my meds to a benzo-naive friend... to me, and at my dosage, I liken the effects of these meds as a few beers in a pill that lasts all day.

This is exactly why government bureaucrats should not dictate to trained professionals what to prescribe for people.  WE ARE INDIVIDUALS.  What works with one person doesn't with another.  That's why different drugs were developed....duh.

I've had doctors try almost every benzo there is to control by anxiety and panic attacks.

Ativans put me to sleep then I wake up in same shape as before, still have panic attacks.

Klonopin doesn't help, et.  It makes me feel weird, like I'm not myself that I don't like one bit.

Valium has a somewhat sedating effect over a longer time (they help my muscle spasms, too)   But some not so nice long-term effects from it.

Xanax's not only help me with anxiety and panic attacks, I feel a relaxing on muscles that decreases my headaches, and at a certain dose it gives me energy like crazy -  I want to get up clean house, do things I've put off, be social (I have social anxiety also).   PK can do exact same thing to me re energizing me but I've read

Does anybody else find themselves energized by meds that are supposed to sedate or slow them down?

Makes me wonder if I was a backwards hyperactive kid?   LOL

I too get energy sometimes from benzos. I guess if you suffer from persistent crippling anxiety and panic attacks, it can be motivating and energizing to have the mental freedom to go about your day. At least for me that seems to be the case.

It is not uncommon for people to get energy from PKs as well.

Denise, if you don't mind me asking, what negative long term effects did you experience from Valium?

Hello, everyone.  For me, Alp will give me a little bit of euphoria and a feeling of enhanced well being.

On the occasion where I'm looking for a recreational effect from the Alp, I find taking 3-4 Fio's with 1.5mg Alp really ratchets up the euphoric power in a most substantial way.  Just wish they could get rid of the APAP crap in them and leave the barb and caff.  I've tried taking 2 No-doze with the Alp as well as a substitute for the Fio's.  It works basically the sameusing the Fio's but a little more energetic with the ND, but you can tell the barb is missing.  But now that the Fio's are dead and gone from the US OP market, looks like I'll be using the No-Doze bump a little more frequently.

I also concur with Mr. H above regarding PK.  Big boost of energy this boy gets from those when the in frequent need arises for me to have to take them.  They can seriously keep me up all night. I hope wherever you may be right now that it is a beautiful day for you!

Best.  S-

I always (until recently) said marijuana aka weed aka grass kicked Benzos in. And I felt them 10 fold... It's true BUT recently I came to believe that Benzos allow me to enjoy the grass having suffered from anxiety my whole life grass always made it worse (but I did like the altered state and continue/d to smoke toke and puff)

Benzos and grass are an enjoyable combo. Cheers...

Very wise advise provided regarding pain meds. And that speaking from experience, and thinking I was "unaddictable" to everything.

Yah, smart one I was (am).

One frightening problem long-term use of valium can cause is a problem called 'tardive dyskinesia' - which is involuntary muscle movements, esp of the face, tongue, and limbs.  My father-in-law was on valium after WWII (shell shock, I guess) and he developed it.  He made terrible facial grimaces, tongue made wormlike movements, he had difficulty speaking.  Sometimes his arm would shoot straight up in the air for no reason without his control. Things like that.  If you don't know about "tardive dyskinesia" - ck out info on it.   It can occur with any  long-term use of certain benzos - but many psychiatrists & doctors I asked, told me Valium seemed to be one of worst offenders for causing this, along with anti-psychotic meds.  As a nurse for years, I noticed many people on long-term valium (or had been) developed this disorder.  I rarely saw it  with other long-term benzo use.

When the doctor prescribed a 'therapeutic dose' for me, I began to have muscle twitches & tremors - scared the bejesus out of me.  There was also a urinary  issue that's considered 'serious' with valium.  It also made me a little bit aggressive, to the point of hostility/rage at time, and worse depression..

The minor side effects I had from valium, I would've tolerated since it worked well on my anxiety & panic attacks, relaxes muscles, too....but with other medication options I saw no reason to risk tardive dyskinesia - an irreversible, permanent disorder purely caused by medicine - that is horrible to see (or experience).

You said it perfectly when you described how energized a person feels when all their energy isn't being devoted to control of anxiety & panic attacks, social anxiety, keeping yourself together - when one is able to go in public and live a 'normal life' (almost) it's so liberating..

I do have trouble with sleep, a lot, for 30 yrs and benzos help with that, too.  Valium also helps relax muscles.

But I want the "euphoria" (from zans), if that's how you want to describe it.  It's one of few times I just feel good, happy, energetic, and escape the misery of my life, the flashbacks & nightmares. It makes me feel hopeful about issues in my life, enough to motivate me into action.  I get this from certain PKs, too. Also, Halcion and Dalmane make me feel this way and I wake up feeling like a million dollars when usually morning depression/pain is among main problems I have suffered since I was in my early 20's (waking up suicidal.....wondering how I'll make it thru the day...not wanting to wake up)

I think intermittent or short-term use of moderate doses, alternating with another benzo, all make Valium use safer and some older doctor friends of mine agree.  Look up and read Side Effects and stop if you see any of the 'serious' ones.immediately.

I occ will use it just until I find my preferred but am careful with it, usually lowest dose I can and still maintain.  My father-in-law was on higher doses, he'd been on it since WWII.  So I'm not saying Valium can't be used - just please be careful with it,.... like we should with all meds...

During my life, I usually have opposite reaction to medicines -- if supposed to make one hyper, I can't stay awake. If supposed to sedate, I'm ready to go dancing (LOL).

Imitrex for migraines - had 1% reaction and almost killed me.  Another odd thing - from a very young age, I have had a natural tolerance to benzos and PKs.  What knocked everybody else out, energized me or not much effect at all..   I've woke up in the middle of surgery TWICE.

Anyway, that's why I've searched for about a year to find a place like dbg..... I feel like I've come home finally after a long journey.

Very helpful post Denise. Valium for me seems more effective at lower equivalent doses than other benzos. For example, I rarely need more than 5 mg diaz to feel relief all day, whereas Lorazepam I need around 1mg to get the same anxiety relief. By the equivalency charts, 10 mg diaz = 1 mg loraz. But like you said, everyone responds differently to meds. I do try to alternate a day or two each week so as to not build tolerance.

Sounds like I'm the only one that likes K-pins...... don't get me wrong; I really like Xanax but I can't come off of Xanax without crazy panic attacks and a phantom feeling of extreme pressure about 6 inches above my head, it feels as if something is about to pop.... K-pins give me almost the same relief with a little less euphoria and I can come off of them with little to no side effects...... Don't get me wrong, I take the occasional Xanax for the little boost in euphoria, but am fine on strictly k-pins.....

5mgs of r000f in hot water.  Sexy as hell, the elusive Mr. Sandman coming in not only to tuck me in, but to give me foreplay and let me get my groove on before a nice long peaceful sleep and very calm almost the entire next day.

But fuk the tolerance it ramps up!

You're not the only one. If I had to list my top 3 I'd go 1)klondykes 2)valkeries and 3)alps
