I used to be addicted to sleeping with the t.v. on and when I couldn't I would go into a panic that I would lay awake all night.  This went on for years.  The t.v. would also wake me up every couple of hours and one night when I woke up  I just turned the sound off and that morning not only did I feel great but I was wondering what happened to the fibromyalgia and back pain I wake up with every morning?  It was just gone.  Now I think I never had fybro at all and a lot of my aches and pains were just from having that damn t.v. on all night and the t.v. was keeping me from getting good sleep.   Just wanted to share that with you, I don't have any experience with sleep meds.  Good luck.

I just use Kirkland over the counter stuff and it's very effective. I only have to take a Val once every week or 2.

Most of the time they work for me. I can send you the actual name of the active ingredient. Maybe try it first and you won't have to take something strong like Ambi3n. I take a lot of pain meds too and they still work.

I take vals everyday and I have tried herbal over the counter and even like Advil PM

Wow that's odd I turn the sound off all the way to but its funny u say that because I think there is something to it because my son wakes up every time I have my comp on or the internet.

I could write a novella about Ambien! I've had a valid Rx since 2001 and continue to have one to this day - as well as supplements due to tolerance increase. You're a nurse, so maybe you won't run into this issue - Doctor's are very reluctant to prescribe Ambien/Zolp. I imagine it's akin to people who need pain medicine and feel like they have to beg for it.

I started taking two 10mg Ambien 2005 (maybe 2004). Here are the pros/cons as I've experienced it.

Pros:

You won't wake up groggy - even with less than 4/5 hours of sleep

You can breast feed (if you still are)

You can take it during pregnancy (I'm not suggesting anything!!)

It's an amazing anti-anxiety medication (I've taken it during the day for extreme anxiety w/o drowsiness)

You *should still be able to awake if your baby cries (not as likely in the first 1-2 hours after taking)

Cons:

Alcohol and sedatives will greatly enhance the effect

If prescribed 10mg - break it in half the first night or two and make sure you're not alone

A lot of people report amnesia - driving, waking up outside, baking, bubble baths

- I had a lot of amnesia initially, especially if I took it and still tried to function.

You must take it while you're in your bed and ready to sleep.

You'll develop a tolerance, especially if used nightly.

Neither pro nor con - it has an euphoria like effect. This too will diminish with long-term use - but it never completely goes away.

It's not routinely tested in standard urine panels - and there are currently no federal standards for testing cutoff amounts. If you need any more information, let me know....I happen to think Ambien is a wonderful medication.

It sucks using meds for sleep But I worked shift work for 20 years and it screwed my sleep up really bad. Thank god I'm on a steady day shift now but shift work really messed me up. Anyway, I take 1.5 Clonazepham and it does the job. It doesn't keep me sleeping straight through 5 or 6 hours , but it helps. I never tried ambien. It might help me, not sure. I tried zopiclone and that did nothing. I tried Temazepham 2omg , it was ok but I felt I needed more. My doctor didn't want to give me more. This Clonazepham came from my sleep doctor telling me it would help with my grinding at night and it also helps with anxiety and I have that too. So it's a win , win for me. Shift work will mess anyone up after working it so long. Kills your body. Eating habits. Etc.....

I've never taken Clonazepham - but friends (real ones) either love it or loathe it. The supporters are addicted to the anxiety relief it offers, the friends who've tried to reduce/eliminate their intake suffered miserably in the process. One friend came out the other side after three nights of not sleeping - and a new vim and vigor she attributed to having Clonazepham removed from her system. She never looked back. Other friends, could never imagine life without it. Personally, I'd rather pop a 5mg Valium for anxiety - which doesn't actually do much - than take Clonazepham. Both are addicting, of course - but Clonazepham seems much stronger.

Any thoughts?

Hi I wrote about my experience with sleeping pills on another thread in this forum if you want to read it. My mind races also at night but thats bcuz im bipolar. So shutting my racing thoughts off is something that only a sleeping pill can conquer.even tho im stable on anti psychotic meds. I suspect tho that you may be just overly stressed and tired from work and so the tv calms you down so heres what me n my husband do. Because hes adhd and stressed at work and exhausted and the tv helps him sleep and I need absolute quiet, me n my daughter go in the room n shut the door and fall asleep first. My husband falls asleep to the tv and then when the tv automatically shuts off he wakes up and goes to bed. Also he did a sleep study and found that he has sleep apnea. It was connected with his troubles w sleeping. So thats him. For me my insomnia came on at 12 and not only do I have the racing thoughts but meth use when I was younger made it worse. I can stay up for 5 days with no drugs at all now. Your trouble sleeping tho seems mild compared to me so I would not recommend ambien. I would recommend zquil. Make sure you have 8 hrs allotted for sleep and youll get good rest and not wake up groggy. Also there are scrip meds like lunesta 2mg, trazadone in a low dose and .5mg xanax. Valerian and melatonin otc can be helpful also but I would talk to your dr first and try to find out what the root of the problem is first. It may be something not having to do with insomnia at all. Good luck.

Ambien and Zopiclone have short half lives (3-4 hrs)and can sometimes lead to waking in the middle of the night for me.

@schrela might help you with this one, but I believe it's the .the longer the half life it stays in your body the longer it stays with your body. I'm not a doctor or @Jackie Chiles inside joke! But I don't know anything about plasma rates but I do know half life of a drug I google it for you,

This is the period of time required for the concentration or amount of drug in the body to be reduced by one-half. We usually consider the half life of a drug in relation to the amount of the drug in plasma. A drug's plasma half-life depends on how quickly the drug is eliminated from the plasma.Dec 18, 2015

im a blond, all I know is when I got out of jail and was  put on probation  animated do urines that were observed. I made sure I did Xanax because they have a short  have  Life while others like Valium have a very long long half life as well as klonopins.  so when I try to beat a drug test I  always take Xanax because I think I have four days to get clean but iI was wrong.  No matter how much water I drink it came up dirty five days later and then I spent nine months glorious months at Hamilton County  Center for violating my probation!

I'm sure more information will be needed because I knew nothing except beating drug test and that drugs that have long half life stay the fuck away from them !

Ambien is better if you don't want the groggy feeling in the morning that zopiclone can leave many with.I'm lucky that I don't get the groggy felling the next day that many do.But if you are going to try z-drugs try not to use them on a regular nightly basis as they just won't work after a while, also they can cause addiction.Try some of the otc sleep meds with the main ingredient starting with dyh something it's the active ingredient in nytol but if I use these I ALLWAYS use the pharmacy brand tabs as your just paying extra  for the brand type like nytol.

Peace

Bliss.....

  1. xenxra @ xenxra: @WTF7218 it may as well be that way with how little effort some of the people on here make to find information that's exactly where you would expect it to be.
  2. ontovzik @ ontovzik: When I had long term shingles, lasting two months. All he could give me was a 10 day supply of dilaudid. He looked at the ground while we were talking about it. I could tell he was ashamed but it was the legislature and the governor that tied his hands. He was very upset that non-medical political people, the media, and the scared public were controlling how he treated his patients. Someday those people will need meds and a hospital bed and they will be gone.
  3. ontovzik @ ontovzik: I had a great doctor, he had the true gift of a healer and he stayed on top of all the science. He straight up told me that for many people opiods work for managing short and long term pain.
  4. ontovzik @ ontovzik: He peed it in the snow in my backyard.
  5. WTF7218 @ WTF7218: @xenxra 😆😂. Yes, but only a few brave souls will ever find the number. You must first order a Dirty Shirley from the bartender. Then you must discreetly take the cocktail napkin from under your drink and unfold it. There you will find the map to the location of the phone number, and clues to decipher the code that it is written in.
  6. xenxra @ xenxra: he left his phone number scribbled in a stall at the pub three blocks down
  7. N @ NYStateofMind: @Alkazar I would try one of those easy online ones .. reddit gives useful info about that
  8. Alkazar @ Alkazar: @NYStateofMind I dont really have a history of abusing things, my docotr is just really stingy. I am thinking of switching.
  9. C @ Cheesus: Thanks xenxra
  10. xenxra @ xenxra: @Cheesus yeah, use snote
  11. P @ psychedpsych: Trump is cracking down….
  12. P @ psychedpsych: Hackers are the scum of the earth
  13. N @ NYStateofMind: so it was easy bc of my history
  14. N @ NYStateofMind: I didnt really tell him but he knew I needed a new script since my dr went to jail
  15. N @ NYStateofMind: @xenxra I was on Adderall since 15 years ago so my dr prescribed that w no problems and then when I lost my best friend my doctor rxed the valiums but
  16. C @ Cheesus: Temp.pm down for anyone else?
  17. xenxra @ xenxra: @NYStateofMind my doctor's have always been pretty open minded if i can actually come in and explain the pharmacological action of the drugs im seeking instead of just telling them why i think i should be prescribed. the only time it didn't work out for me is when i was trying pharmaceuticals for depression ten years ago and suggested they let me try testosterone instead (turns out i was hypogonadal so they made a mistake denying my request at face value)
  18. T @ Testisthebest: Even down here in Florida when the pill mill docs all switched over to Suboxone and/or retired you can still find some pretty liberal docs but you gotta know what to look for. Mine does "pain management, detox, anxiety, etc. And no insurance. My doc writes me 60 5mg Valium, 14 2mg Xanax and asked if I had ever tried adderal to get more focus at work as I told him I run my own business.
  19. N @ NYStateofMind: @Alkazar do they know your history? Like I dont tell my doctor anything about myself except what they need to know,...I was able to get my dr to rx the highest dose of adderall along with valiums ..... if they dont know your history or there is no history I would just come out and ask what is the reason for their mistreatment.... they have no problem billing your insurance or taking a payment for the visit
  20. T @ Turbo259: @Layne_Cobain Thank you fam
