What’s a space cake?

Numerous medical cannabis dispensaries, as well as plenty of coffee shops in Amsterdam that have a knack for baking, carry space cakes, which are literally cakes, muffins, or pastries. The difference between space cakes and your average pastry is, obviously, the active THC content of the space cakes. Space cakes are baked using cannabutter, which is butter that’s been heated in a pan with marijuana leaves & buds mixed in then sifted out.  The experience of eating a space cake, like most marijuana edibles, is intense, both cerebral and body-stone heavy, and extremely long lasting. The high, however, takes just as long as any edible to start onset as well – about an hour to an hour and a half – so don’t misjudge and eat more than you need.

What You Need

To bake a space cake, you’ll need the following ingredients in these amounts or the same proportions.
8 grams cannabis or equivalent of hash
8½ cups milk
1¾ cups flour
A cup of sugar
A cup of non-salted butter
2 eggs
And anything else you’d like if you want to spice up a plain cake: chocolate chips & peanut butter, mixed fruits (bluberry and lemon are great), cocoa for a chocolate cake, etc.
For cooking, you’ll also need:
A cake pan
A medium bowl (for mixing ingredients)
A small plate or bowl
Non-stick spray, oil, or equivalent
An oven
A microwave
A toothpick

What You Do

(Note: This method of baking heats and activates the cannabutter while you are baking the other ingredients, essentially killing two birds with one stone. If you’re experienced in making cannabutter, you can vary the method to your tastes.)
1)    Heat the oven to 400° farenheit.
2)    Microwave all of the butter in the small bowl/plate until it’s a spreadable, pasty consistency (takes ~ 20 minutes).
3)    Break up your marijuana, either by hand, or by grinder if you have one. Add it to the butter, and mix it in well, letting its THC saturate into the butter.
4)    Put all your other ingredients in the mixing bowl and mix the cannabutter in until the space cake batter has as little clumps as possible. As with all batter, if it’s too soggy/sloppy, add flour; if it’s too dry/powdery, add milk.
5)    Spray your cake pan (or add oil, or equivalent), and pour the contents of the mixing bowl into it.
6)    When the oven reads 400°, pop the pan in the center rack.
7)    Do something for 25 minutes (enough time for a smoke).
8)    Check if the space cake’s done by sticking the toothpick in it. It should come out clean; if it has anything that resembles liquid or batter on it, keep it in and check periodically until that doesn’t happen.
9)    Take out your space cake & pan from the oven and let it sit for half an hour before you remove the pan and start adding toppings.
10)    Enjoy!

Hi Dutch!

Wow i have not "seen" you in a long time! Hope you are well! This recipe sounds delish! I must try it!

When microwaving butter though, i think that you mean 20 seconds not 20 minutes. I do mine for thirty seconds then. Stir. Thirty more seconds then stir.... until proper consistency. If you put butter in for twenty minutes it will burn beyond belief! Also, i amo betting the cake pan size is 13" x 9" x 2"....or a large rectangle pan. That would equal two 8-9" round cake pans. That temp sounds really hot, probably to ensure the thc is incoporated. I CANT WAIT TO TRY THIS, I LOVE BUTTER CAKE

I AM THE MASTERBAKER. Hehehehehehehehehe

Thanks! Take care!

Thanks Dutch! I'll make on of deez to take on my trip to see TAB's, maybe leave 1/2 back for me when I get back on the 20th.. Almost concert season.. I gotsta be ready.. last yr twice all our baked goodies fell in a cooler w/ 1/2 melted ice.. Never take more than you can use in a day. I ground scored a sack coming out a REALLY NICE Hotel when Garth Brooks was in town(I had a friend come in and we saw Chris Robinson brotherhood:).. haha all these older people looked and were like "is that yours young man, you don't wanna lose it!" It was wrapped in a "diary page" that said "I will be better w/ my family" like 6 times.. it's not THAT good, poor soul I even tried to turn it in to lost and found haha! They didn't know what to say, I didn't wan't whoever lost it, to freak and not be good to their family haha! Good stuff tho, cookies get boring.. same w/ all choco's... but somewhere I still have that, and it'll work as 1/2 if nothing.

Anyone know if I just threw a grm of shatter in isn't it pretty much= to 8g's? I know it's fullmelt too but have never used oil/wax to cook

This is a wonderful idea for a recipe thread. Edible recipes. Ive actually never baked an edible but have always wanted to try it. If anyone else has any edible recipes please by all means post it here. The space cake recipe looks delish so I think ill definitely have to try it for my first attempt. Thank you much for sharing it.

Heisenberg, a former mod, has a good recipe for canna butter somewhere in the forum. If you make the butter you can use it for any baked goods or just on bread. Do a search to find it. I really love the shortcut with this space cake tho. Just be careful, it is STRONG!
I've been looking for the Old HBergs recipe on Cana Butter..I make my own I just wanna see if he did anything special .Bisko

Hey Bisko

It's in the original Recipes thread under Anything else post #44. Didn't want to repost anything with that name on it, but hope this helps you find it.
