I am considering going to the doctor to see about the possibility of getting a script for adds.  I have 2 friends with prescriptions for it and they said it was pretty easy. After reading about Add/Adhd and doing some of the online tests for it,  i just may actually have it! Was wondering if anyone has experience or advice/pointers for a visit like this?

first thing, dont ask for addys.

i do have adah.  this is word for word what i said.  "im a college student, and even from highschool i have issues concentrating my focus on ANYTHING for long periods of time, i start alot of projects and never finish before starting a new one"

but to be fair, when i was a kid i was DDX'd with ADHD.  but the dr didnt know that.  i got 20s the first try :)

My husband was diagnosed with ADHD when he was young. As an adult he told the doctor that he didn't like taking the medicine, so of course they wrote him a prescription for Adderall. I ended up benefitting because he still didn't like taking them.

Somehow I think if he had asked for them , they would have said no, but I'm cynical where doctors are concerned.

I'm following this ! Am considering the same thing as @scrog and the insight from @2earls is very helpful. Will also report back after I've done some doc research, checked insurance coverage and taken the plunge to try this path. So glad this is a thread !

@2Earls Your consul too @Scroog I think Your advise to @SoSiSLol! Is good solid info. I've done these for a long time. Having to get the MD F2F & even have some notes, but I've found that if You try & gop in there w/ your speill  I'd say play it how the discussing is  going etc. & play it by ear. That way You don't come up looking like You've doseected every possable response etc..Good luck. Rxpro999000-

yeah its kinda funny or just weird to think of it but you'd probably WANT a doc who was kind of an asshole. or at least just one who didn't want to get too involved in the situation or too personal.

I just went and recieved a script for the first time. I found a mental health clinic in my area that has a prescribing nurse on staff and scheduled an appointment with them . This clinic didn't accept my insurance ,but I may be able to be reimbursed by my insurance company . It was around $150 for the appointment entry,  which sounds spendy, but is cheaper than sourcing them... Any who the appointment was a breeze . I told Nurse that I had been prescription drugs as a young teen and when I left school I quit taking my prescription .i explained i was looking for ADHD meds because I am losing focus and direction in life, because I can't stay focused long enough to complete any task and I am afraid I may lose my job due to it . She asked alot of general life questions , and I proceeded to give her my whole life story, in no particular order, while looking at her and out the window down .

Adhd meds effect Everyone differently , so don't be nervous to schedule your appointment specifically for this and and discuss it during your appointment. These offices are so much better than a doctor's visit , now only if they could prescribe pain relievers with their mental scripts,  life would be too easy :)

Well i took the plunge in-person and it worked out well. PM me for specifics of how I did it, if you need help. Definitely a great decision, just do your homework and a full dress rehearsal haha.

Glad you got your script. I was prescribed them in my early 30's. I have found out it is best to go to a Psycologist if they can prescribe, Psychiatrist or if you can get in with a Mental health nurse practicioner. You can always say I took them in my 20's and said they worked fine just have the dose that you took. Most records if over 10 years old cannot be located. Tell them they calm you down to the point you can fall asleep. Truely if you have ADD that's what it will do

Agreed doctors dont take that risk no more

Just curious, has anyone in the states heard of or tried  donefirst, or another company named cerebral? They claim to give a prescription after a video conference with a licensed provider. I get adds for it all the time now. I read reviews, seems like a possible way to get a diagnosis/ prescription.

  12. LW815 @ LW815: Know what’s really going on in somebody else’s head or how much they’re really dealing with and feel like they’re left with no other options. Been a very sad few days but 2 complete (irl anyway) strangers cared enough about what I was going through to talk to me about it, though they owe me nothing and have no reason to help my personal pain other than the kindness in their own hearts. Just shows that this place is a real community, not just a forum of people who only care about themselves.
  13. LW815 @ LW815: Was nodding in/out the entire time writing those shouts and spparently was fully out sending the last one lol. But II find it ‘uplifting’ as two people I’ve never actually met and only know the others online presence through subscriptions, who I have a better chance of getting a handy J from Jesus Christ himself, both were so quick to share their own experience and wise words and assurances that things will look up and not to feel guilty or be mad at somebody for going that route - as you never
  14. xenxra @ xenxra: @hotdog45 meh, same difference. they both got blacklisted on here. wouldn't be the first time a rogue shop sent out unsolicited comms after the fact.

  16. LW815 @ LW815: Own personal experience with this kind of this type kind of situation and sympathized with my pain when I really just needed somebody to talk to. Both went out of their way to help a stranger in a time of need when I really needed somebody, and body to talk to. MM
  17. LW815 @ LW815: Sent a simple conf email and I just dropped a ball on them. I really just needed to let it out, didn’t expect them to reply in such a thoughtful way that it drastically changed the rest of my day and mindset for the bette . Above and beyond - and the last night while chatting with another that I knew had at least once one child,, so i wished them a belated happy Father’s Day, which again caused me to spill it all to them and again received the most thoughtful and kind response, as well as their-
  18. LW815 @ LW815: They didn’t need to. They could have just continued on with the nature or the main purpose of what the relationship between us is, I didn’t really have anybody else to let it out to at the time and they both went far beyond what I’d expect. Not that I’d assumed they’re cold/A-holes - it was just a lot from somebody who’s technically a competent stranger. A very close friend of mine committed suicide on Father’s Day and iwas emotionally wrecked witih nobody to talk to, and the first author just
  19. LW815 @ LW815: @Mokachin0 not really uplifting in the normal sense, but two popular authors on here took the time out of their likely very busy days to not only read my massive walls of text, but both also replied with the most kind, thoughtful and positive responses when I randomly dumped my personal problems into their laps
