Anyone like leadership contests? (UK)

I've got to admit, I love a good leadership contest! Whether it's Labour, UKIP or Conservatives, I just get really excited. And right now it seems none of them have a leader, or a credible one anyway.

Just wondered if anyone else is excited as I am, or whether I'm just a boring (young) fart...

It's funny how Tim Farron of the Lib Dems is the only solid leader, and he's a bit of a joke really...

For the Tories I'd love to see Andrea Leadsom win it. =) Theresa May is not a nice person, she's the one who brought in the most draconian drug laws in Europe. Horrible woman. And Michael Gove's a bit of a wally, hehe.

For Labour, I think they're ruined as a party. Personally, I'm quite chuffed at that, but at the moment it will either be Corbyn or Angela Eagle. Both have no hope, really, of winning an election...

As for UKIP, I think Steven Woolfe would be brilliant. Very firm in his beliefs. I think he'd be the best one for the job.

Any other opinions?

P.S. I'm emotionally prepared for the fact that this may get no replies. Meep. =(

I would have liked to see Liam Fox get through during the first ballot, but it wasn't to be. Labour will come back at some point, but not within the next few decades by the look of it...... 

I've only ever voted Conservative or Labour, I'm a floating voter. As for UKIP, that lady that's currently suspended from the party looks like she'll go for leadership, if she doesn't get the boot that is!

I don't like them, but have been disillusioned with politics for a while. Always been a Labour person, currently drifting towards the Greens - lefty incarnate. I could never vote for a ring-wing government, but try not to judge those who do.

Actually, I did vote Tory at 19, but was pissed on Scrumpy. Thought it would be a laugh after Blair's landslide victory.

I didn't really see that much in Liam Fox. It's a strange one, because I guess to be a leader of a party you need a lot of charisma and self-assurance, and sometimes that trumps years of service in government. Not saying Liam Fox doesn't have that, but Andrea Leadsom seems to definitely possess those qualities. Stephen Crabb seems a little weird. He won't make it. Imagine it. PM Crabb. Not going to happen. Leadsom's the one.

Is Suzanne Evans the lady you were referring to? I don't know if she's the right person for the job... Someone with a lot of clout, that's what they need. Steven Woolfe is incredibly concise, articulate, intelligent, stands his ground and puts down arguments in a calm manner. He's very good. Brilliant orator. If Theresa May gets in and doesn't fulfil the promises on 'Brexit' and if Labour continue to disintegrate, they'll be a massive political void, and I can't see the Liberal Democrats filling that (they're a void in themselves).

As for the left vs right thing, it's always nice to see mutual respect, it's quite a rare thing...

The leader ship contests are nothing more thea a media circus, designed to divert the publics attention away from what's going on, with the Brexit and other things like the TTIP. It all creates confusion, people  being divided etc. It don't matter who the figure head they put in as leader, they will only be a puppet to the shady groups and institutes who really hold the power.  

Its all an illusion of choice imo

Hmm, I'd partly agree with you, but the leadership contests are necessary, and important, especially the Conservative one, since it will determine the next Prime Minister. I think all the media attention there is valid.

I agree with you fully that they're all puppets to those who hold the strings, that's why I'm screaming out for a surge in populism. Politicians always say 'we need to put a clear message to the public'. No! The politicians need to listen to the clear messages from the public!

Off topic: This thread seems to have an error. I made a post earlier, then I had an error when I tried to post and couldn't access the website at all. Now my previous post appeared about a dozen times and so did Conceited's posts. Confused.

I live in Scotland and I look at the political landscape and despair to be quite honest. I enjoy Ruth Davidson but she is a tory and if you're Scottish that will always prevail. It'll take generations to repair the damage Thatcher done to their relationship with us. We done forget or forgive easily. I like that labour seem to becoming stronger again despite some of their own members trying to oust a leader who could take them out of the darkness and back to what the labour party stood for. With the SNP basically owning Scotland and with leaving the EU it leaves whoever will become the next pm in a situation that will only keep gaining more traction. I do believe it'll be Teresa May I don't particularly have any feelings towards her one way or the other, she talks the talk..says what you want to hear eg. Minimum wage. But she'll still be facing sturgeon who with all her might and a,very large backing pushing for another referendum = more instability. It does have to happen eventually and maybe it is for the best. I have great disillusionment when it comes to these matters. All I see is more food banks, a rise in racism, tax breaks for the rich and the most vulnerable scared they'll recieve *that* letter telling them it's their turn to be reassessed. 

But to answer the question I like a leadership contest but not nearly as much as I'd like stability, growth and a fair political system that doesn't target those who aren't strong enough to have a voice. If she could fix this I'd call her a deity that's my limited brain splurge.

@Hammerblow Granted, I wasn't around when Margaret Thatcher was around, but obviously I can tell the wave of public opinion, at least around me, is definitely anti-Thatcher. But I would say that the last Labour government caused deep damage to English, or British, society that will take generations to heal, if they ever do. Discussing immigration is still a bit of a taboo, but it shouldn't be. Because, in my opinion anyway, a lot of these problems we're discussing, the housing shortage and crisis, homelessness, ethnic segregation and distrust on all sides, the over-stretched, struggling NHS, the overflowing schools and lack of first choice places... so many of these problems are fed partly, or sometimes wholly, by the current level of immigration. I think some see it as a copout (blaming everything on immigration etc.), but the fact is that an average of 300,000 arrivals per year is no petty issue without consequence. It will, and does, make an enormous impact. Looking at levels of immigration over the last century or so, it seems beyond coincidental that levels sharply rose just as Tony Blair's 'rule' was becoming established. Therefore, it could be very easy to argue that Labour have certainly done the country no favours. It won't end well...

As for Labour currently, it looks to me like the leadership and party members are in a bubble and aren't aware of the wider public opinion. Labour have slipped to third place in many areas.

But saying all this doesn't mean I'd be happy if Theresa May became PM. On the contrary... I'd probably cry myself to sleep. Because I'm happy. And I like to make other people happy. I think.
