Hi there. My father has very bad back pain and very sore shoulders that require cortisone injections. He has started to feel that the injections don't work anymore. He can't sleep due to the extreme discomfort he's feeling.

My question is what type of pain medicine would be best for him as he is prescribed tramadol but they don't work for him anymore and the doctor won't prescribe him anything else.

Any help would be appreciated. Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere but I would just like some advice from people who are suffering similar types of pain and have managed to find something that controls it.

Dee H C would probably be better than tramadol as you can increase the dose without a ceiling effect, fairly long lasting and not too drowsy so could function during the day on it.

Other options would be much harder to find meds.

Do you know what causes the pain? What injury is it ?

I know the cartilage is all but gone in his shoulders. He explains it to me as bone rubbing on bone. The back pain I'm not exactly sure of. He regularly gets stuck in the bath because of it and in bed. When bad he can't even bend to put his cloathes on or take them off because of the pain. He has been prescribed c but never dee h c so I will do some investigation with him on this.

Thanks for replying Xegh

I am guessing from previous conversations that you are in the UK. It is fairly standard procedure for GP's to prescribe tram and if that doesn't work for them which is really common because people find lots of side effects from trams, then they usually got to deehccc. Often it is the other way round as well but they are considered similar strength but deehcc has the advantage i spoke of earlier you can keep upping the dose to find the patients sweet spot. Tram is limited in that they normally do not prescribe more than 200mg a day some rare cases I have heard of are much more but there is seizure risks.

No problem hope it helps. I have cartilage damage also but not the shoulder and have been under medicated most of my life, so I feel his pain almost literally.

I would think any of the lighter op8s... low dose oxencod0ne or hyd0c0done. maybe even a very light m0rph dose. different peoples bodies react different to these types of meds but honestly he should be on a op8 that is heavier than tram... and maybe a very light benz dose only for before bed to help sleep... prolly something with like V or Kpin which also has a bit of a muscle relaxant anti spasm effect also to relas himself and help sleep. As those who are new to op8s they can almost keep them up at night due to the mild euphoria felt of high felt when taken.. but he shoudl seek a better dr or pain specialist and explain his concerns and issues... he should have no problem getting a better and more appropriate prescription for his condition....

He would never get prescribed those in the UK. Over here hyd0 is not even an option but I would think is probably the most suitable for this kind of pain.

Hey mate. As far as the pain goes he feels that the trams are not doing anything. He thinks that the deehy c was more effective although not exactly the best as he still had pain on them. He's on 200mg of the trams so I am not sure if he can go any higher.
Another thing I've noticed, which I'm not sure if it's related, is that he has became heavily depressed and finds it hard to get the head together to leave his bed. Could this be a side of the trams?

Thanks for asking btw it is really appreciated mate

No worries.

Trams has ssri effects which although are used to control depression can also create it. There are few articles about this, especially if you are not used to them or do not need them. I found this one http://www.yourspine.com/Chiropractic/SSRI+Drugs+Cause+Depression.aspx

You also do not get good sleep when on trams daily, they are long lasting and prevent deep sleep. So not a great med to take daily some find it perfect others it is nightmare.

Deehc can been upped in dosage and in the right dose should work. What dose did he take? Trams the max they are going to prescribe is 3 100mg a day but only if he has been on them for a very long time.

Do you know if he is also prescribed an anti-inflammatory maybe something like Naproxen or Arthritec??

My grandfather has bad back pain due to, as the Dr's put it a shrinking between the l4 and l5 but they said there's nothing they can do to fix it, but they have been changing his medication on him because they can't seem to find anything to help. He has been on p€rcs v!cs tr@ms and m○rph (all the way up to 2 60's every 6 hrs) and he said the ones that helped the most was the hy€ro along with g@b@pentin but he didn't like the high he got from it. He's straight laced. But the Dr's give him just about anything as he also has lung cancer. But he's kind of built a tolerance and sometimes I help him by giving him some of the stuff I manage to find to make sure he doesn't run out.

He was prescribed amitriptyline but his house just recently burnt down so he's staying with my gran who refuses to let him take them while staying with her as they spaced him out a fair bit

Yeah mate I think in the end we start to know more about what works than the doctors but the minute you let them know this they seem to think your abusing them. Just can't win

No doubt we know what works better for ourselves than doctors do. But they get shut from dea. And get paid by insurance companies and pharmaceuticals to push certain stuff and not others. In the end Dr's are nothing more than puppets.

  4. Maelstrom @ Maelstrom: Oh god! Way too much nuance and variation between Mars, Milky Way, and 3 musketeers. There’s was a special mars that had almond. A Mars bar from the UK is closer to a snickers than a traditional mars. What a rabbit hole though.

  8. Maelstrom @ Maelstrom: Okay, somehow I missed putting my two cents in during the chocolate discussion. The big near-half-pound slab of Hersheys Symphony bar with the BLUE label is hands down the best mainstream chocolate bar in America. You folks over across the pond kill it with Cadbury’s and I won’t deny it’s the best but those damn blue symphonies have me hooked.
