Best Advice You Were Ever Given

We toasted this in the Navy occasionally

Heres to lying, stealing, cheating, and drinking.
If you must lie, lie to save the life of a friend .
If you must steal, steal the heart of the one you love.
If you must cheat, cheat death.
And if you drink, drink with friends, both old and new.

Trust me... tomorrow you are going to be happy if you wake up in your own bed alone... (long story)

Not sure if this was said...I only went back 3 pages.

1. Don't bite the hand that feeds you

2. This too shall pass

Someone was explaining how whenever in the midst of an unpleasant situation, terrible depression, illness, etc, to have the thought that 'This *will* pass'. It sounds simple, but it's helped me. Whenever things are tough, keep reminding yourself. It will pass. (or at least in most cases). It does help...

Love this. My grandmother who passed away last month (just 5 weeks after my grandfather) used to always sit and listen to us grandkids and our troubles and then calmly reply "this too shall pass". And she was always right :)

Best advice I've ever gotten was a lesson from my parents growing up and watching them run their own small business. They always told me "never ask someone working under you to do something that you would not be willing to do yourself." I now run a very large equestrian center for a large non-prof and have a sizable staff and I always keep that in mind. I have a million things going on every day from working with vendors, tracking and scheduling vet, farrier, deliveries, orders, meds, feed, dealing with ridiculous requests from headquarters, meetings, scheduling program, etc. and don't have the time I used to in smaller barns to do the day to day horse care and such. But I make a point of picking up a pitchfork and mucking a stall or two alongside my girls whenever I have the chance. If a toilet needs scrubbing and I have 5 min to spare, I'll scrub it myself rather than delegating it. Because when I am busy and have to delegate, none of my staff ever grumble or slack because if the boss has done it plenty of times, it's no big for them to do it too. I have an amazing and loyal set of staff who I know respect me very much for it. Thanks mom and dad!

Second best piece of advice is a saying from Aussie horse trainer, Clinton Anderson. "Make the right thing easy and the wrong thing hard." It's always work well for me in horse training, staff training, and most successfully in husband training ;)

My parents- Be yourself, don’t lie, don’t cheat , don’t steal and work hard because there’s no shortcuts in life. . Very simple very effective. When I was younger I couldn’t decide what I wanted to be (I come from a medical family) but i was very artistic and I felt like I would be letting them down if I didn’t follow in their footsteps. Don’t ever think that, do what’s in your heart and even if it doesn’t work out (I’m no longer in the arts) you can live with no regrets.

"Its better to be quiet and thought a fool,  than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

and the one I never think about because it would devastate all those involved.  "would you do that in front of your Mother."  or "would your Mom be proud that you did that?"  :(  Sorry Mom!!

"While using, I had two states of being: sick or about to be sick. That's it." --- not really advice but something a rehab counselor said one time that was the truest thing I have ever heard.

...

My grandmother told me never to judge anyone because you can never completely know their circumstances.

Similarly, a woman who lives by me who i wish was my granny, says: "People see in others what they need to be seeing in themselves".

From my therapist: ‘coping with trauma and depression is a necessity. Whether or not your coping mechanisms are perceived as healthy by society,  living in constant pain or despair causes brain damage that generally lasts longer than coping with droogs and alcohol’  i find, in my deepest depressions, this is  generally true as long as my body and psyche are not in imminent peril. I don’t mean to imply that drug addiction is a suitable form of therapy, but forcing abstinence upon oneself while devoid of support and validation from people who love you can mess you up really bad. Self medication  is a form of self love and I don’t believe anyone should feel guilty for wanting to feel better

 💙

sorry I’m doing a twofur but at least tied for best is this ‘when you don’t know what to do, do nothing until you know.’ Never fails if you’re willing to lead a fluid life💖✨😚
