It's better to have something and not need it than to need it and not have it

Yes! Yes! Yes! Says the girl with the wine opener, champagne stopper, bottle opener, sneak-a-toke, pepperspray, lipstick, q-tip, nail clippers, super glue, condoms, plan B, thong, Vaseline, Chapstick, mascara, essential oil (yes) tampons, dollars, euros, bud, sunglasses, Swiss Army knife, and sewing kit all in her purse.

I think there is more actually .....

I guess my best advice ever given was "do unto you as you would have others do unto you".

'

Being in my position, where it would be easy to take advantage of someone in need, I've never let that come before trying to help people who truly need it without letting the " you need this, so it'll need this" approach. I've actually tried to show the better half that they are worth more than that. Sometimes I've been able to show them that friends are there whether benefits are there or not.

I've had my fair share of chances to take advantage of people, but i was raised to believe "a friend in need is a friend indeed". At every opportunity I've tried to show people they were better than they had been lead to believe. IME it's all I can do, treat people as I would like to be treated. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But it doesn't keep me from believing that karma helps protect me while I'm trying to help someone. At least as long as I don't use my position to take advantage of their situation and use it to to my advantage I've got a good conscience.

"Stop flaming people. Why ruin a good night's sleep thinking you pissed somebody off? I know you have a conscience, don't pretend it doesn't get to you."

"Say it forget it, write it regret it."  That mainly applies to texting and social media. I learned that from The Peoples Court. I also learned that when it comes to contracts... PUT IT IN WRITING

That's some good stuff!
Thanks my Poohbah friend. So is Judge Marilyn Milian. /default_wub.png   I think she is not only one of the smartest ladies to host a court TV program, IMO she is a very pretty lady, especially given her age of just a little over 50. I know they have professionals there to make her look her best, but I have to admit a redhead makes me a little steamy myself.

Sorry to get off topic...

Another good bit of advice I've heard before is "Don't do what you deal".

30 dollars out of pocket for a taxi is better than the cost of a DUI.

I have narrowed it down, I know you all have been waiting with bated breath lol. It is actually the very last thing my mother sent to me before she died, probably the best advise I have been given;

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery.

But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love, for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is perennial as the grass.

Take kindly to the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.

Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

I'm so honored to read this Hooter1.

While I realize that your mama didn't pen it herself, what an honor to be a child of someone who very clearly cherishes you as much as these words cherish the very real and rare opportunities afforded us simple by existing.

Some things that our parents give us, while not tangible, last forever.

Thank you for sharing what has been shared with you.
