Outside of the widely discussed 2021 incident involving the climate activist (in which they were required to hand over the IP address of the user), and the 22’ case where they were compelled to provide the FBI with the recovery email address that a user had entered in as an optional piece of info. The OP being fucked in the head is irrleavant. Protonmail actively cooperates with law enforcement, just check out their history of handing over accounts to LE. Yes, youre off.
Not sure I’ve seen anything recent come out about protonmail actively cooperating with ŁÊ. Have any recent stories that I’ve missed?
As far as I’m aware, email contents are end-to-end encrypted. No one, including protonmail, can access the data inside the body of an email sent from their domain to another recipient on their domain.
I could be missing something big that happened recently, but like @Heman mentioned, that’s why it’s largely considered best practice to put timers on emails and to put any extra sensitive data inside of self-destructing messages. Also using a VPN in this day and age should be bare minimum OPSEC.
