Does Appearance Make A Difference When Going For Followup Refills

hey crew,

does appearance make a difference when going for followup refills, past 8yrs i would always show up to my appointments dressed for success as if i was going to work that day but i was off but still decided to dress casual professional, anyway i been working on growing some FACIAL HAIR, BEARD or whatever its starting out to be, do doctors look at this as a sign of some kind of mental disturbance especially since i am being prescribed x@n@x, he may think hmmm facial hair, beard, depression prob get scared to refil my script and than send me down horror path like many others that i read threads about there GP stopping there scripts and referring them to a Psychiatrist.

Man shaving doesn't have to be complicated its just im trying to work on my man face lol

Psych docs give out alps like they're friggin candy!  Finding a new doc is particularly easy, especially if they are psychiatrists.  You can go to a new psychiatrist and get prescribed whatever anxiety med you wanted if you described the right symptoms.  No need to dress for success, my advice would be to go on a downward spiral, slowly mind you, and say that your anxiety is getting worse.  Always say its for no reason at all!  You're just anxious about life!  Since you are being prescribed xannies, I would look into panic attacks and describe a few of them that you've had in great detail.  "The walls were closing in all around me, my heart was racing, my shoulders hurt, I thought I was going to die!"

What triggered this asks the doctor....

It just hit me like a ton of bricks out of nowhere!  One minute I was fine, the next I was in full fledged panic mode!

Now for a good kpin prescription you have to say that you're in a constant state of anxiety.  That no matter what you're always nervous and jittery.

Mine won't! She knows my history and She saw how bad my mental state was and I didn't even ask for x@n@x even tho I need it terribly for PTSD. And she blurts out " I haven't prescribed benzos for 4 years now... And I don't have a problem ever telling anybody NO!" Yes... she's a real b****😦

Although if the roles were reversed, I'd think twice about giving my doc a refill.. He always seems more fucked than I do?...

Brilliant funny advice from pharmafreak. I'll make a note of that myself.

My answer is YES appearance makes a difference, but if you're dressed smartish, have deodorant on etc then a beard shouldn't hurt your chances.

My gp just hands over new scripts when I say I've lost the old one - and he told me himself it's because of the way I look. (I'm a girl - so no beard) also I don't have an accent and sound educated. So I think it's the overall impression that counts.

Mind you, if you are in the uk apparently it's extremely difficult to get a script for b3n50s at all if that's what you're after - let alone a repeat.

Time to find a new doc and keep quiet about your history. Do you live in a rural area where there is only one doctor?

Hell, most of them don't even bother checking your medical history or even bother asking about previous doctors. If they do on the intake form, it's really just a formality. I've never had a doc check previous medical references. Sometimes I just make one up for fun.

It never hurts to have a backup supply while you're waiting for your order!

Man the psychs around me give up any benzo......tons of em. Most docs will give me meds. I try to dress nice, and am polite. I am alo a little older so I think that may have a LOT to do with it.

Same here. People just done associate mid thirties women with substance abuse - how WRONG are they!!

Also your past history of course - if you've previously been in trouble you are written off as a seeker which I think is so unfair cos they are probably the ones who need help most. I mean - there was obviously a reason they abused whatever in the first place.

I think a doc who has any common sense at all will be able to see when someone genuinely needs help. The way you look shouldn't make a difference at all

Yes, I'm never going to tell another dr that I'm tapering off the b3nz and trust them to do it slowly so I don't go into w/d. Lessoned learned especially with her. I live in a big beach city in California right now. The drs here are very hesitant to perscribe b3nz to anyone. I am moving back to Az in June, back to the small little hick town (also its a military town) and the drs there give out Benz and pks like candy. But i only took what i was prescribed. I never had a problem getting them till I moved to Cali a year and a half ago. The whole idea of moving here was to taper off nice and slow and get well again for my kids. I have no history of any kind of substance abuse. Everything in my medical charts talks about what I've been thru my whole life and the meds I've been on. And here I move, and they don't even prescribe the damn things, so she tapered me so fast it made me sicker when I was starting to get better from being sick. Thank god I'm moving back to Az. I already called all my old drs and they said they will take me, except for the other most important one....Mr pk doc.... I'm still waiting on him. Those drs were wonderful. Almost wish I had never moved. But actually had no choice. Sorry for the rant. That ca woman (psych), took away my quality of life by tapering me to damn fast. Im so angry because of it. I begged her to go slow. Theres nuthing wrong in tapering slow. Especialy wen you have been on a high dosage for 7,yrs. My children had to suffer as well, cuz mommy was bedridden. I came to Cali to get well and heal by tapering slowly. Well, that was a joke, until by the grace of god somehow I found dbg last sept. And omg this forum literally is saving my quality of life right now. No other drs here get any credit for helping me get well. Dbg gets all the credit in the world from me.

Oh god poor pokey. /default_sad.png there are some heartless people out there who ought not to be doctors. So glad you found DBG and were able to take control of your own taper and life. Well done. From what I've read even a vv slow taper is vv hard

I agree completely overdue it with symptoms and you will get what you need, again research the symptoms and stick to it every time to make sure you have what you need. It stinks you have to do it this way, however if they think for a minute that you do not need them they will not write it out even though you do need them. I have learned this since my condition a couple of years ago. Hope this helps.

you know what, I didn't read any other responses,  but as a dude with long hair and a beard, I do find that there are still way to many narrow minded , judgmental types out there, in all areas of society who do indeed, judge by appearance, so my advice, as the person I am today, to you is this:

be who you want to be, walk in your own truth always as long as you cause no harm to another(and hopefully yourself, but its your life no one else's, so i could never tell a person that they shoot not shoot 20 bags of h or something, for example, only share what may have hapened or not to me when I did whatever they were considering) and if it really doesn't matter to you,and you feel it helps your cause then shave cut hair or whatever. If it does, question the doc, see if they do indeed give evidence of discriminatory practices, and proceed as desired (everyone is different, I just personally don't feel any judgement from  anyone about such things is justified, and see no difference between judging a boy for having long hair compared to judging someone why the color of their skin, weight, race, gender, sexual preference, etc). But that's just me.

the alternative is if you can afford it, you know where to get what you desire

Any docs where I live now and where I used to live in NY do not like giving Bennies out.  They all say that practices do not like scribing it and want to ween there patients down..

I kind of wondered if it was like the pain meds where nobody will write a scipt for them anymore ..

Im on Clons, Used to be able to take up to 6 mgs a day...but now though I did get myself down to lower dose.1 mg I still definitely need it.  I found it really sucks that nobody wanted to write for  any benz..
