Does anyone have any tips on how I can learn to encrypt my email? I’ve had success with my regular email address several times but I see that someone I would like to try as only accepting encrypted emails. I’m a newb still learning all of the time!

What service are you trying to use ? Proton has already encryption enabled I'm pretty sure. And Tutanota has it's own way of encryption ..I'm not a expert but could figure it out for ya or someone else will chime in .I moved your post to the proper thread All about security.

Then you could go as far as using temp.pm or privenote also for more security .

PGP keys ?be a little more specific and more help will chime in.

Have a good one

Thanks Biskobro! I appreciate you moving this to the correct thread. To be honest I’m a newb and just have regular old yahoo and gmail addresses and I saw that one vendor will only accept encrypted emails so I’m trying to figure it out. Lol I figured out btc so now this is my next lesson! I very much appreciate your time and hope all is well!

Wow, lots of great info in this security thread. I should have checked the forum better first. Time to start reading!

Just use protonmail they have a app or direct site. All emails sent and received  are already encryption for you ...Just send the message as normal. Just IMO the easiest way for you ..They also have a VPN if your interested in that to.

Protonmail has a free option when you sign up.... for what I need it's perfect and surely it'll work for you.

Good day

@Palty Just remember that end-to-end encryption with Protonmail only works if you are sending emails FROM AND TO other protonmail accounts.  Same with tutanota accounts.  So if the vendor wishes you to use encrypted email (and they actual know what that means lol) then you would either need to do your own PGP encryption or use the SAME encrypted email provider they are using. So if they have a Tutanota account, you would need to make a tutanota account and send from there.  Hopefully that makes sense..

In my experience, it is always just a bit better to rely upon a known and well vetted PGP encrypting service to keep your communications safe.  ProtonMail and Tutanota (so far from what I hear) are pretty safe as long as your ProtonMail encrypted message goes to another ProtonMail account and the same with Tutanota, it’s only going to be encrypted when sent to another Tutanota account.
If you want to be absolutely sure learn to use PGP

@Palty Don't forget that the "Subject Title" of each email you create will not be encrypted when using protonmail or tutanota. ONLY the email itself will be encrypted when sending or receiving them not the subject titles.

I know its a few months old, but I wanted to add to this a little, because I'm wondering why no ones on the clearnet wants to use PGP? Yes proton and tuta both encrypt end to end, but what if a vendor or buyer has their password leaked somehow, and LE, Phishers, or scammers, get access to the their messages? Wouldn't it make sense to have all the sensitive matterial in your emails have an extra layer of protection? Most darknet vendors require you to at least encrypt your address and anything that might be able to identify or incriminate you or them, even if you're comunicating through a secure server like proton. So why do Clearnet vendors not adopt the same policy? I understand its more grey area here, and usually as long as its not being sold for consumption there is no arrestable crime, but why give them any evidence at all? Why give your customers the chance to say anything incriminating to begin with? Especially when PGP is availible to everyone for free, and not that difficult to use. Theres tons of tutorials on youtube, it took me about 15 minutes to learn and use, as a vendor you would cut out the "stupid kid" orders that will probably hurt themselves with your products or screw up your opsec, and you also gain the option of dark markets if you so choose. There doesn't seem to be a downside to me. I feel like if I was a vendor here, I'd require everyone to PGP encrypt their messages, in addition to sending through an encrpted email server, and using the self destructing message feature, and leave links to tutorials on my page. Any good reason not to?

Also, if anyone has questions about PGP, feel free to message me, I'd be glad to share what I know.

@Whoopiegoldburgg222 it sounds more complicated than it actually is. Its really just having a public key code and a private key code, your public key is given to those that you want to encrypt messages to you, and your private key you keep to yourself and use it to decrypt messages that were sent to you using your public key. Past that, its just a matter of learning how to use the software, which just consists of how to generate a public/private key pair, and how to import other people public keys so you can encrypt messages to them.

Heres a decent tutorial on using GPG tools:

And there's Mac and PC versions available the below links:

Mac: https://gpgtools.org/

PC: https://www.gpg4win.org/

@SlackyMcSlackerson When I tried learning to use it before. It was a tedious time consuming process of me making a mistake ending in failure each attempt. I agree we all should use it. I hope in the future I can figure out how to use it.
