So I am wondering if there could be a business for trusted Escrow middlemen. I believe that scams could be reduced if there were effective and trusted escrow positions. Obviously I believe I could perform this function however I have no reputation as it stands right now so I wouldn't expect anybody to use me. But don't we have some very well known members in the forum who might be good to use as escrow actors?

I offer this to the forum in the hopes of discussion, perhaps we could unlock a class of actors in this forum who perform the role of Escrow managers?

There is a company that does this but they are on the dark net!

Darknet is where it should stay. Seriously. Magazine subscriptions and research journals have no use for escrow services. It's nothing but a liability.

This exists already and is in the DN! And that's also how you lose your $$$
Im not talking about the markets im talking about a separate website that offers escrow between individuals.

Scamming vendors is also a liability, websites like fair trade are great to work with theres nothing wrong with escrow at all!

You see CnC5 I agree with you this seems to me like it could be a business for someone within the forum community. A sort of decentralized escrow based on what though? How do we determine reputation?

If the escrow manager knew nothing about the reason for the payment proceedings and only was there to be an impartial judge to arbitrate the contracts, you could have a safe, from an opsec perspective, transaction in which honest parties are rewarded and appropriately compensated, and dishonest parties most likely would be punished.

The biggest four issues I see are:

1. Escrow managers could be corrupted
2. Exit scams from escrow managers
3. Escrow managers can be fooled
4. Untested/untrusted escrow services are rife for scams and abuse
I can think of a few ways to mitigate some of these issues, but I don't think I can eliminate them all

Would love to know what you guys think.... If I can I would love to offer myself as candidate for a small proof of concept if the powers that be bless me.

Let the admin pick the person tho I wouldn’t send my money to someone that voted themselves into the position and joined yesterday just being real

Nah I get it I just figure I may as well establish that of course I have interest in doing this, it being the reason I made this thread. That being said I agree with you Kerby, leave it to trusted members to choose trusted people I think.

Yeah seems like the best option to let admin pick… but great idea

Ideas are one thing but action is another, is there any interest in this at all? Because I think the community could use a centralized escrow management system.

DNM's frequently have a questionable reputation for dealing in illegal items and services. Modeling the community after one risks drawing lots of unwarranted attention from regulatory agencies. Why go to the trouble for books and magazines?

And if, say, the IRS or some other agency manages to breach or confiscate the server, they get to come knocking at everyone's door for unpaid sales taxes etc.

  4. Gulp2788 @ Gulp2788: whereas if I use fiat to buy something the money is green anyway. Monero does this really well. Anyway rant over, you can DM me if you'd like to talk more about cryptos.
  5. Gulp2788 @ Gulp2788: I don't really think that people understand the whole point of cryptos in the first place anymore. BTC just won't be adopted by governments because the transactions are too public and what's worse, money that is freshly minted is better than money that has been used. Like if my btc was used for something that was illegal does that mean the money is "poisoned"?
  6. Gulp2788 @ Gulp2788: @xenxra Yeah, Like I said I've never really been that fond of btc, it isn't used as a currency, just as a place for people to invest money in, even though the whole purpose of btc was to be a currency. If it doesn't fulfill that role, what does? Monero certainly does.

  9. S @ sawganaut: I bet btc bottom is in
  10. D @ dragnetopher: No, I don’t think it. I know it. And it’s not just bitcoin, it’s all crypto. And like I said, they’re selling to acquire liquidity for when countries truly start utilizing what’s been set in place. The USD is under controlled demolition as we speak. This is all part of it.

  12. xenxra @ xenxra: tokenisation is not a plan its already been happening for months, ive been trading this whole move on silver through ethereum
  13. xenxra @ xenxra: you think whales are dumping bitcoin because of something everyone has known about for like 4 years? what does bitcoin liquidity have to do with trading tokenized assets? they don't have pooled liquidity.
  14. D @ dragnetopher: Whales are tanking BTC due to the fact that the future is coming now, literally. There’s a plan to tokenize every single asset possible. This is whales dumping so they can have liquidity for the Springtime.
  15. xenxra @ xenxra: @Gulp2788 this is a terrible spot to buy bitcoin haphazardly because it's going down another $5k -$7k if 80,000 doesn't hold. i told everyone to get the fuck out of bitcoin at $103k. it's better to buy late when the bottom is more certain than throw darts and act like the opposite outcome was unavoidable just because it went down "a lot" and everyone seems to be "freaking out". wait for it to get back over 85k
  16. xenxra @ xenxra: @aarons the last time i said monero was on discount in here it went up 5x in 3 months
  17. Gulp2788 @ Gulp2788: good opportunity to buy more btc if you are gonna do so imo, me I'm buying the btc to switch into better currencies
  18. Gulp2788 @ Gulp2788: bah politics, no need to worry BTC is a honeypot anyway
  19. fishladder @ fishladder: down since trump
  20. Gulp2788 @ Gulp2788: btc has been hovering around 90k for a year everyone is freaking out tbh I am laughing
