Homemade syrup replica

Just wondering if anyone has a recipe for a good syrup. I’ve got powder dyes (red 33 blue 1) vegetable glycerin. I know I need some sort of alcohol and things like menthol for flavoring but have no clue about measurements. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
Simple syrup use a 1:1 ratio of sugar to water if you're clever, add some mint leaves or something from your garden to add flavor
