An Indian national pleaded guilty Friday in federal court to being part of a worldwide, multimillion-dollar illegal prescription drug operation run over the Internet.
Zuned Zunestra, 35, of West Mumbai, India, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court, Downtown, to three conspiracy charges. He remains in custody, which prosecutors requested after his arrest in Florida on fears he could flee the country.
Prosecutors accused Zunestra of working with family members and others of operating a network of websites that from 2004 to 2014 sold illegal prescription drugs to more than 40,000 customers around the world, including at least six Western Pennsylvania residents living in Cranberry, Greensburg, Verona, Rankin and Pittsburgh. The group claimed to be selling FDA-approved medications which instead were made in unauthorized factories in India.
