Let's not forget the real reason why we celebrate Memorial Day this weekend while we are having beers and burgers, and spending time with our families and friends and hopefully some Veterans too.

To all US Veterans on this board and every other US Veteran living or deceased on this planet(and every non US Veteran worldwide who sacrificed their limb and life in the name of inhumanity) Memorial Day is the time we honor the sacrifice these heroes made, many who volunteered knew that they may die in battle.

But surviving war can be worst that dying for it, because living with the permanent injuries can be very traumatic to the solider, who has to endure the constant pain and loss of normal functioning ability due to missing limbs or mental and emotional issues. Many Veterans commit suicide due to the lack of proper medically care and having to live daily with the memories of the atrocities of war that they witnessed.

War has become a permanent part of life. Now it seem that when a person is born there is always some kind of violent aggression taking place somewhere. And when this same person dies there will never be a significant period of time in that person's life when anybody( more likely a lot of innocents)somewhere did not get murdered during a conflict.

It’s the one part of our evolution that never evolved enough. It’s the animal instinct that lies deep within all of us.

War will end when the human race does. Until then the least we can do is to honor these heroes of combat who unselfishly volunteer to protect the citizens of this and other countries throughout  the world knowing they risk severe permanent injury or death.

I wish I had the courage to be a hero but I don't. I'm not hero material. The best I can do is to honor and respect the courage of these special people and NEVER forget their sacrifice they made and will continue to do so.

Happy Memorial Day Veterans

this was super awesome. it does not go unnoticed or unappreciated. I can remember being in the Guard after switching over from active duty and being at the hospital to interview for a position wearing my class A uniform. That particular day was a memorable one because I can remember nearly everyone in the hospital giving me funny looks until I saw what was being viewed on a television inside one of the sitting areas. My interview was on 9/11. And of course at that point in time my reserve status was completely null and void. I remember finishing out the interview and although they hired me, thinking to myself that I would likely not be there long. My career in the United States Army actually came to a surprise to me as all throughout high school I was one of the kids that would sneak out back on the nature trail to smoke a few bowls before class. However, it probably was cemented by my father's naval career as a medic and my grandfather's two tours in Vietnam. General Peter pace held me when I was a little baby! There's a picture of it somewhere at my parents house. One of the nation's top war advisors. I will never call myself a hero as I kicked dope in boot camp. I'm sure that's not something a lot of people can say. But I did it. Back then it was just me having been sucked in as a recreational user. Of course, now, I'm such a nervous wreck that I rely heavily on this forum for my good friend Ben. this was a super nice thing for you to say. I won't go into my particular ticks, but let's say I get a little bit dodgy if the microwave plate is off center and starts to click. On the other hand, I'm also super super fortunate. I have an 8 year old daughter, who is currently going around fibbing to everyone that she is in fact, nine, because her birthday is coming up at the end of June. she has said once or twice that she would like to be a combat medic, but we are working hard to make sure that she will have her own college money saved up so that she can go to nursing school without having to join up. High five to you brother. Much obliged. Thanks again.

Thank you K for your service and courage.

But as for the rest of the members - one reply!

You guys would not be enjoying any of the freedoms and conveniences in life that we have come to enjoy if it weren't for American's like K..

Now this weekend if you come across any veterans stop, shake their hand and tell them how proud you are of them. You would be surprised how that makes a veteran feel.

And leave a comment here too.

Socio, you know I luv ya gurl.

I'm with HB 100%, thank you to any veterans reading this for your service. You are much appreciated and we owe all that we enjoy this Memorial weekend to you.

Hat's off to our DBG veterans and veterans everywhere!

On the other side of the coin. Eat, drink and be merry. If someone stills your camping spot, kick their ass!! /default_biggrin.png

Thanks to all of our vets..We are still the strongest military on the planet, and high 5's to our men and woman of the military, past and present...You guys Rock!

Count me in with HB, Cat and YB. Thank you SPBS and every veteran for keeping our people free. We may not live in a perfect nation but we live in a free one, thanks you those who've served and the many who gave the ultimate sacrifice for or freedom.

Happy Memorial Day to all the veterans on the board and not on the board, living or passed all over the world.

I ran out for a while to Walmart and struck up a conversation with an older gentleman and asked if he was a vet. He is and I spent about 20 mins taking with him, thanking him for what he has done for this country and others all around the world. We chatted about some other stuff but mainly what I felt was the general lack of appreciation they receive. I think he appreciated our conversation and just giving thanks to a vet will mean something to them. Sometimes if I see a person wearing a hat which indicates they were in the service I would walk up to them and say a few words of thanks.

I was watching 60 Mins last night and they were interviewing veterans. Now while you're typing on your keyboard or having beer and burgers just stop for a month and think of this:

A soldier of about 28 came back from the Middle East a few year ago. Remember he was not asked to go, he wanted to knowing he may not come back or come back in pieces. Well he's has lost a leg, has 2 small children and a wife. His life will never be the same.

He said he would do it all over again. A true hero. It's because of  Americans like him that we can enjoy our freedoms and generous lifestyles which I feel that we take for granted.

Enjoy your potato salad.

  19. D @ drdso: It's scary now fr. I'm guessing we're gonna see a lot of exit scammers for former "reputable" veteran vendors. These tariffs/supply chain issues are causing them not to receive product due to seizure/denial. At a certain point they gotta get there money somewhere. Just be careful who you buy from y'all
