New Functionality to Allow Users to Relate/Link Threads, and to Create Child Threads

I had an idea that came to me in the night that I figured I’d throw out into the ether on the off chance others agree. This would be new functionality that’d need to be developed, but I believe it would benefit the site and end-users by better organizing threads and reducing the need to use the search bar when looking for related topics.

1) Allow users (note that “users” could be restricted by profile/defined set of privileges) to relate/link one thread to other threads on the site.

This would create a href link somewhere within the thread, under a clearly defined “Related Threads” section, that could be clicked to quickly navigate to that linked thread.

2) Allow users (note that user privileges, could again be restricted based on an agreed upon set of rules) to create child threads under whatever “parent” thread they’re on.

Once the child thread is created and linked to the parent, a href link would be displayed somewhere on the parent thread, under a clearly defined section, “Child Threads”.

Example: Vendor “A” has started selling new Mag “X”. The mag is brand new to the scene with little to no user reports on things like dose, tolerance, ROA, etc.. instead of having the vendor’s main thread inundated with users asking Q&A questions about the mag,
Admin decides to create a child thread under the main thread titled “User Discussion - Mag ‘X’ Q&A”. This would help keep discussions organized amongst threads, leaving vendor threads for reviews, and child threads for more specific complaints/product Q&A.

Anyways, that’s my 2cents for the year. Thank you all for coming to my Ted Talk 🙂. Stay safe, and remember to be grateful to those around you!

I was very confused on the idea of Child Threads until your explanation, but IMO it’s a great idea if somebody is willing to do it. I get posts deleted often for not being reviews that, at least I think, are useful/helpful answers or input. I’m not complaining about that fact, at this point I know better but sometimes just don’t think when I see a question/somebody respond to me specifically and go off on a tangent that may or may not derail/be off topic. Having a user discussion link in the first/second post where we can discuss or (within reason) complain about things is absolutely a solid idea.

Yep I love this idea. It would help new users (like me lol) navigate the site and educate ourselves much easier. It took me a minute to figure out what I'm even doing here and sometimes threads with a ton of pages are overwhelming when there's only one thing I'm searching for within a thread. This would make things much more efficient and organized.

  1. L @ Layne_Cobain: Sports FTW 🙌 @tiquanunderwood 😃 , but yeah guess we can make a thread or wutever for our more in depth “coverage”
  2. Z @ zdaBa: (y) (y) (y)
  3. iamgroot @ iamgroot: Here is our new official email address from now on. support@mediattics.com
  4. iamgroot @ iamgroot: Some customers were scammed by someone using a nearly identical email address. So I’m planning to change my email to one that uses my official website domain, so it can’t be easily copied and everyone can stay safe from scammers. Here is our new official email address from now on. support@mediattics.com
  5. fyjclol @ fyjclol: Also wondering what happened to the guy with the btc predictions. And +1 for fooseball
  6. L @ LW815: 90% of the time when I see it, it’s being used for exactly what it’s not supposed to be used for(with the exception of you and Layne talking fooseball)
  7. L @ LW815: I’d say it’s fair enough game to discuss whatever you wanna discuss(within the rules ofc) and if people don’t like it oh well. It’s not like the shoutbox is constantly popping off with other discussion lol
  8. tiquanunderwood @ tiquanunderwood: Well sorry if I bother anyone with my sports talk :) much love to all. Happy holidays.
  9. Gracie5 @ Gracie5: Shout box is for sports, hey, Happy Thanksgiving. It’s not for those other things people like to bring up. Please use or start a thread in the appropriate place.
  10. L @ LW815: Better to push other worse discussions out of sight IMO and see random sport shit, but also kinda makes it hard to have that content removed if need be. I don’t know how to view the entire shoutbox recent history but I know it’s possible lol so it’s both a good and bad thing tbh
  11. Ketmaster @ Ketmaster: exactly
  12. L @ LW815: I agree @Ketmaster but their lengthy sport discussions usually tend to happen at convenient times, like when somebody is talking about or asking things that the shoutbox also isn’t meant for(that are worse than random sport talks)
  13. Ketmaster @ Ketmaster: I appreciate the good vibes but I agree sports stuff should like be in a thread or PM or something, not a sports guy so it is kinda like wtf is happening people are messaging each other in a shoutbox
  14. T @ timyboy: Where is the guy with the BTC predictions?
  15. F @ Floaty: like them using the shout box tbh, its appreciated good vibes. Not sure if the box has another purpose seems like its the correct use though
  16. tiquanunderwood @ tiquanunderwood: @Layne_Cobain Yeah I'll start a thread for us in the Sports section later this morning.
  17. tiquanunderwood @ tiquanunderwood: @Layne_Cobain Yeah I hated Canales' playcalling. Run the ball. That's what 9ers did since they knew it'd be that type of game. But at the same time, the panthers have a young core, and that was their biggest game in years lol. I understand MNF throwing off the passing game sync and shit just from being hyped up.
  18. L @ luquitoad: Yall should start a sports thread and keep it out of the shoutbox..... just a suggestion .
  19. L @ Layne_Cobain: I don’t think we’ll be in prime time again anytime soon 😂
  20. L @ Layne_Cobain: What a horrific game @tiquanunderwood seeiously embarrassing. Defense did their job Bryce the offense and Canales play calling has been atrocious
