New Functionality to Allow Users to Relate/Link Threads, and to Create Child Threads

I had an idea that came to me in the night that I figured I’d throw out into the ether on the off chance others agree. This would be new functionality that’d need to be developed, but I believe it would benefit the site and end-users by better organizing threads and reducing the need to use the search bar when looking for related topics.

1) Allow users (note that “users” could be restricted by profile/defined set of privileges) to relate/link one thread to other threads on the site.

This would create a href link somewhere within the thread, under a clearly defined “Related Threads” section, that could be clicked to quickly navigate to that linked thread.

2) Allow users (note that user privileges, could again be restricted based on an agreed upon set of rules) to create child threads under whatever “parent” thread they’re on.

Once the child thread is created and linked to the parent, a href link would be displayed somewhere on the parent thread, under a clearly defined section, “Child Threads”.

Example: Vendor “A” has started selling new Mag “X”. The mag is brand new to the scene with little to no user reports on things like dose, tolerance, ROA, etc.. instead of having the vendor’s main thread inundated with users asking Q&A questions about the mag,
Admin decides to create a child thread under the main thread titled “User Discussion - Mag ‘X’ Q&A”. This would help keep discussions organized amongst threads, leaving vendor threads for reviews, and child threads for more specific complaints/product Q&A.

Anyways, that’s my 2cents for the year. Thank you all for coming to my Ted Talk 🙂. Stay safe, and remember to be grateful to those around you!

I was very confused on the idea of Child Threads until your explanation, but IMO it’s a great idea if somebody is willing to do it. I get posts deleted often for not being reviews that, at least I think, are useful/helpful answers or input. I’m not complaining about that fact, at this point I know better but sometimes just don’t think when I see a question/somebody respond to me specifically and go off on a tangent that may or may not derail/be off topic. Having a user discussion link in the first/second post where we can discuss or (within reason) complain about things is absolutely a solid idea.

Yep I love this idea. It would help new users (like me lol) navigate the site and educate ourselves much easier. It took me a minute to figure out what I'm even doing here and sometimes threads with a ton of pages are overwhelming when there's only one thing I'm searching for within a thread. This would make things much more efficient and organized.
