A lot of sources say this new class of drug will be very useful. I am not so sure. Belsomra which seems to be the only one out at the moment is getting some bad reviews.

Perhaps there will be another however in this class that helps, it sure would be good to switch from using some of the more old-school heavy stuff (when I need it).

Here is a good article on the future of sleep medication: http://mentalhealthdaily.com/2015/06/30/new-sleeping-pills-2015-orexin-receptor-antagonists/

Thanks for the article. I have never found a sleeping pill that really works well. I will be interested to see how these are received.

Although not related to the article, I am starting to suspect that my mattress is adding to my sleep deprivation. I'm sleeping better in hotel rooms.

It would be nice to have a benzo alternative so we could take long breaks from benzos and reduce tolerance. With chronic severe insomnia benzos are the only drug that help me fall asleep and i call sleep initiators and things like antihistamines i find ineffective on their own but when combined with benzos help me to sustain my sleep and help me sleep deeper.

My insomnia started after a couple of nasty viral infections close together 14 yrs ago.

We will see when this Belsomra gets going. It has had a lot of bad review so far. But apparently works quite well if you dose 40mg. My question is what are the side effects. Certain sleepers I don't bother with because their side effects are about the same as not sleeping at all!

The idea with these new ones is that they just target a smaller part of the brain instead of shutting down your whole cns.

The cost is also a big factor with belsomra.

  1. xenxra @ xenxra: i'm surprised none of the CA-US shops have a notice up about it
  2. Alkazar @ Alkazar: It is really annoying\
  3. Alkazar @ Alkazar: Technically they were forced back to work the last time they went on strike in 2024, so this is the same strike for the same reasons in 2025.
  4. Alkazar @ Alkazar: I dont know how to direct reply to people on here. But the Canada Post strike will affect any mail coming from the US. It will be held at a facility until the striek is over. Mail that is being sent from CAD to the US will just not be picked up. It all has to be private delivery services now.
  5. Z @ zdaBa: Happy Saturday, love you all <3
