Outrage! How Student Loans Are Destoying Us

You can google some site called Defaultdocs.com and check all the Doctors who have defaulted on their loans. There will come a time when nobody will want to be an engineer, doctor, dentist, lawyer, scientist in this country because of the cost of tuition. Meanwhile in China education is free and much cheaper in  Europe.

It is one those things where you have to look at the pricing of each school. Does it pay to get a private university education or go public? That was many things I asked myself. I only had 5,000 in loans which some of yawl would die to have that amount.I got an associates degree in a trade (refinery) and made $60,000 at bottom pay at less than half a year.

yea this is a unfortunate situation with the amount of $$ in student loans in default this could one day turn into the next crisis as the housing loans a few years back. Maybe not as bad but nevertheless...   Not even sure what a college degree gets you nowadays unless it's a specialized skill that is in high demand. Regardless whatever salary you make coming out of college it's going to take a long time to pay back
My husband went to trade school (plumbing) and about 3 years later was making 120k plus unbelievable benefits. California unions were insane! Now, new state, no union, no 120k. But still, this is a great way to get a career without going into any serious debt.

Education is for the rich and upper middle class. That is why people who are born into poverty will probably never have that opportunity and will live and die in poverty in the richest country(outside the Arab states) in the world.

Sad.

There has to be other options in the US to make enough money to support a family with an occupation that does not required a college education.

Become self-employed, or get an education, and "work for the man"...I would choose option #1..Pell grants are still available for free, and I went to college for 2 years, and didn't pay a dime out of pocket, so there are still options available for college...You don't have to be rich or upper class to make it in this country..

that is the way to go! If you get a education now a days it pays to go into a specialized skill to get a job. Can't just go to school and get a general Liberal Arts degree , History Degree etc..

I have an MBA in finance and accounting from a "top" school - and it took me a decade to pay off my loans. Made my last payment six months ago!! The debt is not worth it!!! And I can't even look at VaJayJays everyday (ah...not that I'd want to).

  5. CalFresh @ CalFresh: Thanks everyone. My family and I are safe ATM. @mellowella thank you, but they cleaned me out. the shelves are empty but I'm hoping to call in some favors to restock ASAP. @xenxra I will reach out to set up a secure comms channel for us. Thanks again all. Yesterday was tough, but the support I've received from those I can share is with has been a Godsend.
  6. tiquanunderwood @ tiquanunderwood: Mad love to you and your family @CalFresh
  7. xenxra @ xenxra: @CalFresh if you are able to DM me (in a secure manner) the transactions associated with your btc theft, i can look into that part for you at least. i;m still 99% certain if the fbi didn't discard my leads they could have gotten some of my coins back and considering you had your coins stolen within the us, you have a much better chance of recovery than me. unless they went through mixers i could probably trace them myself.
  8. O @ Outsider9173: @CalFresh Haven't been here long but I want to wish you a fast recovery

  14. mellowella @ mellowella: @CalFresh are you and your family safe? You’ve helped me in a pinch and were more than generous, and I’m sure you’ve helped others. How can we help you? Does it help at all if we completely buy out what’s left? Maybe that gives time and funds to restock and rebuild? I don’t want to break any rules here, but please let us know if we can do anything. All on your time of course.
  15. CalFresh @ CalFresh: thanks guys. I'm pulling together what I have left and leaning on the kindness of folks who support me to restock my shelves so that I can keep the lights on. Having my savings drained and my security vanish in an instant is paralyzing and the repercussions will only be realized in the coming days and weeks. for now I'm just trying to stay focused on the immediate priorities for ensuring this doesn't. cause cataclysmic failure to the life I've built for my children and I.
  16. H @ hotdog45: @CalFresh hey man if I can do anything, anything at all to help you get back on your feet let me know. Truly my heart goes out to you. I sent you an email also
  17. G @ gfunkster: @CalFresh im really sorry to hear that. But remember karma is real my man. They just fd their karma for a long time.
