Oxycontin ER vs. Morphine ER

My pain management doctor told me starting at the end of the month was going to add an ER PK to my IR PK script since I have chronic pain.  I do not have insurance so I will be paying for the meds out of pocket.  The pharmacist told me that the morphine comes in a generic version that would be much cheaper.  It is my understanding that mg for mg the oxy is 2X the strength, which means I will need a higher dose of morphine if I go that route.  Right now I take oxycodone IR and I am pleased with the way it works as well as the way it makes me feel.  However, I have not tried either one of these PK's.  Can y'all shed some light on this for me so I make the right decision?  If the cheaper option works then good, but if I have to spend the money I will.  Please help!  Thanks,

NOT WHAT YOUR looking for, but wow, your doc still writes for 0xycood0ne?  And your able to get it filled..

I am not able to get it nor if I could get it, fill it in nyc or Florida...

May I ask where you are?

Ps, you might want to not spell the meds out..it get picked up by search engines that way...

maybe ask a mod to make a creative spelling of your meds since its past the time to edit it??

Sorry i didnt mean to sound offensive or anything.  Im just wondering where docs do prescribe that because I was on that and I cant find anyone who will prescribe it in nyc and or florida where im living now. :/

The docs still prescribe those meds in the NW. I've never had issues getting Oksea prescribed or filled.

Can someone with knowledge please answer my original question on this post?  Thanks

I have never found morfeen in pill form very effective, maybe I was not taking high enough doses, but personally I would pay more for the other if I could afford it.

Now that's what I was looking for.  I have just recently tried the time release form of okseakowdoan and do not find it to be nearly as the immediate release.  So what your saying however is it is still better than the morpheen?  How about Oh!Pana!??? Thanks

Ew, I hated Op@na, it gave me the worst headache /default_sad.png

morphine did nothing at all, opana didnt do much but man what a headache...

the perks im on rock climbers, f3nts, work the best for me

My pain doc had me on the morph ER & I hated it. The oxy ER worked well for me u till I had the lap band. He does also give me the 15 immediate release for breakthrough so I like them the best. He still gives me the 40 ox Er but I don't take them. He recently gave me a new list of meds to consider such as the patch, dillies& op@ana. I hesitate to change as I don't know if he would stop the immediate release.

@nickiean I still think that you must have the best pain doc in the universe! Most of us would faint if our docs offered even one of these, I know I would.

I am super lucky to live in a state that has good pain docs but mine is super good. I do wish he would  switch me to the immediate 3o instead of time release 40. I don't even bother taking them as they don't work since the lap band. I've lost 95 lbs buy the way!! I'm trying to work that out with him.

Just want to say you rock 2 earls. I haven't been posting a lot mostly I read.

Holy crap! 95 pounds is amazing. I bet you feel so much better regardless of meds. I lost around 30 pounds this last year myself and even that has made a big difference. Shopping for clothes is so much more fun when you can get what you like vs big enough. Plus more energy!

Thanks for the kind words and let's both never go back to our larger selves.

Oh dear, I apologize for going completely off topic /default_ph34r.png

that is why i wrote what i orginally wrote....i would bow down and kiss feet for that med again as DEA is trying to write it off the planet /default_sad.png

I have been on the okseacotton er for several years, and have found that the dose needs to be relatively high in order for me to really feel the effects. 30-40 mg range, plus still had the ir for breakthrough pain. The oksea er does give a decent baseline, but the ir by far work better. As for the morfeen, I've only had it in IV form, and didn't care for how it made me feel. Drops my blood pressure thru the floor.

My Pain mgmt doctor prescribes a very good combination to relieve the major chronic pain in my back.  It may seem like a lot but it works like a charm:

Celebrex (arthritis, not considered a big drug)

Oxcee IR (4X per day, 10)

Oxceecontoon ER(3x per day, 20 mg)

Celebrex (for nerve pain)

Lyrica for nerve pain)

Vals (for when I need them)

The problem with the Oxcee IR is your pain is continually going up and down and you never get a real chance for pain relief.  The Oxceectin will provide a long term solution and you only take the oxcee for breakthrough.

I would cry without my pain doctor. I feel 70% better with this cocktail medicine.

Hope this helps.  P.s.  I am in Southern California
