Hey guys,

I just wanted to share that my protonmail was hacked a couple days ago and I didn't notice until after donating. The scammer emailed me back afterwards saying they had accidentally doubled my order and if i wanted to keep the extra i could just donate a little more and all would be well. Luckily I had read the previous posts here on dbg about this so I instantly knew not to send anything else and it was a scammer I was actually conversing with, not the vendor.

I also had two emails supposedly from DBG admin in my inbox saying a vendor had direct messaged me on the site with links to the message, they looked legit but i know not to ever click links so I came here to the site to check and there were no messages from that vendor here. Said Vendor later confirmed they had never contacted me.

Please be careful and take time to keep an eye out for anything that seems off or out of place. There's a few things I could have picked up on I realize now if I was paying closer attention. Also, don't freak out and delete everything in your inbox if you think you've been hacked. I did this not thinking and then realized I had deleted any information that would have helped us figure out more details about how it happened.

Ive switched to tuta mail now. Never touching proton again. the more I learn about them the more i see they're full of it.

I hope this helps someone not make the same mistakes. Everyone stay safe out there!

This EXACT same thing happened to me, Unfortunately I didn't know and got scammed. So Very Thankful you posted this, I suppose I'll be needing to apologize to the Vendor. Going to get a new email as we speak. Blessings

Oh man, I'm so sorry you went through this too! It's a bitch and really feels so violating. Not just because of the money but the privacy invasion. Scammers suck. I hope things look up for you in this situation and things work out with your vendor. Stay safe!

I was a target of a phishing campaign on Protonmail just today... I received an email appearing to come from Protonmail asking me to click on a button to verify my Protonmail address. Upon further inspection I noticed it was actually sent from some fake address (e.g., email@avxi-yz.com), obviously NOT associated with Proton.

This is not new. It’s been happening since last summer.

I hate to come in here and bother you but I used 2 different vendors and got scammed. So I got new emails and I don't post here on the vendors I use, I was told this helps scammers figure out who you are using. So I have been very careful. I've been debating on what to do as I need to find a new vendor but I need to speak up about how to deal with the scam. I have been using 2 different vendors, one is having issues and I started using the other more. I made a rather large order, I don't use protonmail but they do. I made my donation and then I just waited for the tracking. They did not send the tracking so I inquired. I asked about my order and they said hang on I'll get back to you. I don't think it should have been easy to forget, it took them a few hours and how they could forget when they came back and said I had repeatedly asked for a refund. I did not ask for a refund. So they said I must have been hacked and they gave the refund and it was not their fault. They said if I had a problem take it up with the Admins on DBG. I'm very upset.

I see others warning that if you get emails from your vendor to check so you don't get scammed, like if you get scammed and you do not check the vendor it's your fault. So I'm trying to see how this is my fault, I don't see how I could have gotten hacked and I do not think it was right for the vendor to do a refund. If that is actually true. It was a lot of money and I can't imagine them wanting to lose it. I have taken every precaution with my emails, I do not leave reviews on here and I feel bad about that but I lost too much money. I guess it comes down to whose fault is it? Anymore a Vendor can say this kind of thing and we are out of luck. I just throw up my hands and say Ok well the Vendor says this happened so I just loose the money and have no meds.

I just thought it is a very bad problem and the Vendors are on here, the one I used told me to go the Admin before I said anything about DBG etc. I said I thought it was a half and half to blame. They said no and that was it. I'd appreciate any advice or thoughts about what can be done about this. I know better than to believe the "I sent a double order so can you send this amount to this BTC Address" I have asked vendors to message on here to confirm the orders and after a couple they say their is no reason to. If this vendor had sent me a message on here then he would have known. He also has another email address to contact me and did not do so. He said he never remembered getting it. I'd appreciate any advice or even prevention on this happening again. It has to stop. I feel like a recluse due to avoiding being scammed. Thank you for your time.

No one has implied anyone is at fault. There are several scenarios that the hacker uses, and vendors have largely gone above and beyond to help clients.
Not all vendors are still here. This began a year ago and there are multiple warnings in the site.
I’m not sure what you are implying. I’m sorry you were hacked. That means that either you or your vendor had contact with a hacked individual. As I said, there are several scenarios used and no proof it’s one individual. This has happened in the past as well, which is documented in the main warning, that’s from the end of last summer.
Most members and vendors have been affected.
I don’t know which vendor you are referring to, nor what is being implied.
Perhaps a DM might better explain what is needed.

Thank you for your reply, I can't DM you. I don't know how hacking works but if he claims he got emails from me that I did not see then we both got hacked right? And I see this happened to somebody esle and nothing was done. They said the Vendor never takes any blame or helps at all. My nerves are shot. I have gotten a new email. I didn't have protonmail before. He does. I ordered from another Vendor with good reviews, it says 24 to 48 shipping and I paid Overnight. A week later and he answered last night saying he'd been sick. I'm sorry to complain but all this money going out and I'm going to be getting seizures, my Neurologist won't increase my dosage. Thank you for all you do.

If you weren’t using pr0ton or another encrypted service that very well may have been your problem(reason you got compromised). Sending from an unencrypted email is a bad idea for many reasons, but besides l£gal reasons your own security is #1. An unencrypted email means anybody who is interested and has the(pretty simple) means to do so can intercept what you’re sending and from the sounds of it your email got found out, compromised, and used against you to get somebody to send your funds sent to an author back to them under the guise it was you. It’s been quite a while and a lot of things have changed but I used to know a lot about IT and my teacher was always big on emphasizing the fact that nothing you do online is safe unless you take the proper precautions yourself to ensure you are. Emails, even encrypted ones, are fairly easy to compromise and inject yourself into without the actual owner of the address ever knowing you were there. If you signed up for this site with a regular address and use that same one to communicate I’d say with almost 100% certainty that’s how this all happened. And if that is the case nobody is really at fault here, other than yourself(I’m not blaming you for it happening, though) and you can’t hold it against anybody. Shitty and unfortunate, and losing a large sum for sure fucking sucks but there really isn’t anything anybody can do about it if it’s your own security(or lack of) that caused it to happen.

I’d highly suggest reading up on and implementing some online safety features and end-to-end encryption email/messaging services and learn how to check your own network for unrecognized traffic, and depending on if you can detect anything possibly ask your ISP about changing your IP. I doubt it’s that deep, though. Whatever device you used I would stop using, get a secure email and a good! reputable VPN(avoid free ones, and despite using pr0ton mail I’d advise against their VPN) and make sure all of your accounts have strong passwords and it should prevent it from happening again.

I’m sorry things are starting out so roughly. They will turn around. There’s a big learning curve and then you have to deal with outside issues that are no fault of yours.
You have to be a donating member to DM. Donating does open more doors, typically much faster doors.
Here’s how to donate:

  11. xenxra @ xenxra: @Steviejay88 if there's one major takeaway i've gained from all the indictments against onion farmers it's that you should never rely on server-side encryption for these kinds of things. please refer to hansa as a case example.

  16. Steviejay88 @ Steviejay88: @Aarfgh i didn’t think so. Thanks! There maybe should be a warning or something tho because the way it says protected DMs is kind of misleading
  17. A @ Aarfgh: @Steviejay88 Xenforo does not natively support encrypted DMs.
  18. Steviejay88 @ Steviejay88: Are the DMs here encrypted anyone know?
  19. xenxra @ xenxra: it's not so much about the merit it went up or down x percent in y time moreso just where it's at in relation to broader market structure
