Just heard about a new money transfer service that works like Xoom.  Has anybody tried this yet? It's called Remitly.

I read about, this money transfer method, also.  You do need a credit card or a bank routing number.  My only concern with this method is that it leaves a paper trail.  I'm thinking maybe you could buy a pre-paid credit card to be more anonymous?  Not sure that would work with this method.  I don't know many that have tried this option, yet.

Well I decided to give it a go this morning.  @BellaDonna I share the same concerns as you but there is no fool proof way, other than cim, to not leave a paper trail.  If you use any of the other services to send you have to provide legit info in order to get a refund so I feel ok doing this.  If they want to know anything bad enough, they can figure it out.   I am just banking on the fact that there are bigger fish to fry.    I will post when all is said and done :)

Well I had a minor hiccup with my transfer yesterday but was able to resolve the issue fairly quickly and pain free.  I had to change receivers as the one given had reached his limit and it was easy peasy.  I was able to do it through the chatbox on the website and it took about 7 minutes.  Its much better than being on the phone (stoned) and having some lady you can barely understand chirping in you ear.....Its also much better than chatting with a dismissive asshole that doesnt believe a word you say and shuts you down right off the bat!!!  I am going to use it until I am told not too.  I still am to fearful of doing cim with sy vendors. I did it with G and never had a problem but for some reason sy scares me. :(

Thanks @Toboso I was going to start a thread for this and of course our awesome members are ahead of me and already discussing it. I'm very interested in trying it.

@2earls    I was surprised at how easy it was to use.  I also got a 40$ gift card to amazon!!!  Switching receivers was a lot less nerve racking using the chatbox, than doing it over the phone. I wish more vendors would offer it.   The initial process took about 5 minutes to complete, including registration.

Well Remitly is officially over for me.   I tried sending again today and they wanted a photocopy of my receivers Id.   I told the guy on the phone that wasnt going to happen and to go ahead and cancel the transaction.  I also told him that I would be cancelling my account and using other methods.  He did not seem to care....Oh well I thought it was going to be a nice alternative but alas, it is not meant to be. Assholes.   I have yet to try Mg again after my last fiasco so I guess I will be using Wu from here on out......

@2earls   Yeah it totally sucks.  I am considering calling and seeing if I can get them to waive the whole Id thing.  I am not sure of my strategy yet but after my last couple of fiascoes with Wu and Mg, I have gained a little bit of confidence on the phone.    I am not sure it it will do any good but it may be worth a shot.   I am still contemplating though.

I had WU do that to me, so I cancelled the order, and switched to MG.  I guess they all must do that sometimes as some sort of QC check.   It sucks,  and is stupid.   Why would you have a copy of someone else's I'D?  I figure their loss..

I tried this recently and it flopped.  They canceled my trans after a two hour wait.  The source sent me another receiver but I just took my cash with me to MG the next day instead.  Haven't tried it again and not sure if I will

sorry to revive such an old thread but couldn't find this mentioned anywhere else on here.

has anyone tried using this recently?

Sure have, Let's just say that they had to call me 2x in a month and wanted more detail because they have notice "pattern"s that concerned them. ( 4 - 3 digit donations ) in 2 months. I let it be and closed up shop with them. Others do just fine I am sure.

There are absolutely nothing worse than wu and mg... basically all financial entities working out of the US are years behind in technology and you have to pay through your nose. Its worthwhile to take a day off and lo9´ok around. I´d use cryptocurrencies everyday before them. Create a wallet and use it once and be off.

Is there a verification process with Remitly (like xoom and sharemoney) where they call you and ask you what the money is for, who the receiver is, etc.? That's what made me stay away from those services. Is Remitly person-free until you get red-flagged for spending too much, or to a flagged receiver?

First time you use it they call and just ask questions about who you are. After that you’re good for about 5 times. Then they want documents.

I think it depends on where you are sending payment.  I tried using Remitly twice and both times I got flagged and denied making my payment.

  1. CalFresh @ CalFresh: Thanks everyone. My family and I are safe ATM. @mellowella thank you, but they cleaned me out. the shelves are empty but I'm hoping to call in some favors to restock ASAP. @xenxra I will reach out to set up a secure comms channel for us. Thanks again all. Yesterday was tough, but the support I've received from those I can share is with has been a Godsend.
  2. tiquanunderwood @ tiquanunderwood: Mad love to you and your family @CalFresh
  3. xenxra @ xenxra: @CalFresh if you are able to DM me (in a secure manner) the transactions associated with your btc theft, i can look into that part for you at least. i;m still 99% certain if the fbi didn't discard my leads they could have gotten some of my coins back and considering you had your coins stolen within the us, you have a much better chance of recovery than me. unless they went through mixers i could probably trace them myself.
  4. O @ Outsider9173: @CalFresh Haven't been here long but I want to wish you a fast recovery

  10. mellowella @ mellowella: @CalFresh are you and your family safe? You’ve helped me in a pinch and were more than generous, and I’m sure you’ve helped others. How can we help you? Does it help at all if we completely buy out what’s left? Maybe that gives time and funds to restock and rebuild? I don’t want to break any rules here, but please let us know if we can do anything. All on your time of course.
  11. CalFresh @ CalFresh: thanks guys. I'm pulling together what I have left and leaning on the kindness of folks who support me to restock my shelves so that I can keep the lights on. Having my savings drained and my security vanish in an instant is paralyzing and the repercussions will only be realized in the coming days and weeks. for now I'm just trying to stay focused on the immediate priorities for ensuring this doesn't. cause cataclysmic failure to the life I've built for my children and I.
  12. H @ hotdog45: @CalFresh hey man if I can do anything, anything at all to help you get back on your feet let me know. Truly my heart goes out to you. I sent you an email also

  17. CalFresh @ CalFresh: friends, about a few hours ago my home was invaded by two punk thugs with guns. They stole everything I had in my home: cash, electronics, and mags, and forced me to transfer $20K in Bitcoin. it is a huge loss and I'm still reeling trying to figure out what i.can do to recover. For now I'm just trying to secure what little I have left so they can't take anything else. I'm telling you guys cause theres not many others I can tell. please bare w/ me, it'll take a few days to get back up and running
  18. CnC5 @ CnC5: @xenxra awesome
  19. giantsquids @ giantsquids: don't jinx it now haha
  20. xenxra @ xenxra: bitcoin is probably going to $120k in the next few weeks, screenshot this.
