anyone else with herniated lower disc and mild-severe sciatic nerve pain?, mine flares up from time to time ,and when it does its STRONG to the point i feel it on my groin area. I recently encounter such matter again, i got the flexeril's (muscle relaxors) scribes to me immediately by urgent care , and got a referral for physical therapy to do that all over again , been that road twice in 2013/2014 so i know the routine.

anyway  i will keep it short, i been on these MR's before and it worked here and there, i guess was great for laying around and maybe stretching yourself out , but i dont find any relief from it for sciatic, i tried a tramadol 50mg some old ones that were laying around they were okay for the pain, still felt the sharpness, but kept me up enough to still function and walk/surf/skate yesterday

2hrs ago took a ibuprofen 800mg i had gotten from the dentist this past summer with a flexeril, and some spiritual herba, il see how this pain plays out

Its been years since I had a problem with sciatic until a couple of weeks ago I started having problems with it.  I know it started from sitting at this computer for

hours, I had a lot of reading I needed to do.  Ive had to limit my time sitting anywhere and make certain I get plenty of rest (sleep).  I tried zanaflex which has helped me before with lower back pain but like you it did nothing for this sciatic pain.  I had wondered if muscle relaxers ever helps anyone with this??  Im doing a lot better but I still limit my time sitting.

i think its disc degeneration, herniated disc, pinch nerve, lack of stretching,, i am starting to incorporate it back now , it feels like some took a baseball bat and hit me in the lower back and than i sharp knife stuck in in it :/

I occasionally get such painful sciatic nerve pain (radiating from my lower back down either one of my legs), that it literally brings me down to my knees while walking/trying to walk.  I have never been diagnosed with herniated disc, or anything else associated with causing sciatica; I just deal with it, since I only suffer from it rarely. However, when I do get  "an attack" , it is a severe, debilitating pain, which I tend to compare with a toothache, or carpal tunnel syndrome (any nerve pain, that imo can be the worst).

I got a great advice from a friend who suffers from sciatica so acute, he has been admitted to ER several times, and has been going to physical therapy.  He  told me to lie down on my stomach (on flat surface/preferably carpet), legs together- stretched out. Lift your upper body, (resting on your elbows and forearms), with your face looking up as high up as possible (I stare at the ceiling). Stay in that position (looking up) for as long as you can stand it--repeating at least ten times.  It really works!!!! It has worked for my friend, and myself as well.

I just saw this topic @mrcoolguy, and wanted to share my experience with you and the rest of my dbG family, in genuine hopes that it might help someone, as my friend's tip helped me.  I am just so glad to be a part of this community, where we can exchange info, ask for advice, and help each other--without judgment.  Please try this simple exercise if you are suffering from sciatica--you might be pleasantly surprised.

Take care everyone, Twinkie :)

Thanks for the extra info , it's just so hard to even bend or stretch , might not be able to get back up off the floor , but can try. Mine hurts daily. Which has caused the past 4-5 yrs of mistakes medical. L4L5, degenerative disks.lower past into the tail bone, then there's this sack I forget what they call it, helps to cushion & pivet is bad not enough fluid plus the Sciatic runs down the legs . Of course some arthritis added in.days you cannot move. The worst pain management system. The shots in the back made everything worse! Brought back my diabeties even worse.no good doctors haven't helped. Causing now what might have been missed is my hip or hips which lock up. No wonder we search for help.have pain med so far have to get from friend. Still doesn't help to much. The anxiety meds help along with they calm the nerves down. Which has greatly helped. Plus it lowers the sugar levels with this diabetes ! Which in reading from others who are lucky enough to have found a doctor who helps them it the anxiety meds do help so many! ? sad I have bad not found. Just bad doctors who don't even listen or seem to care. So Glad I found this place I call home. Great help great people. Still trying to wait on help from lost order, causes all kinds of problems. My best to all as always, Karen , KADD. Thanks for the tip !

stretching and this portable tens unit i purchased on ebay is helping allot, the flare ups have become less and also I can stop going to PT visits after i saw my last bill :/

not worth the cost, if you can manage your pain at home, some of the PT i can see best suited for someone who needs to walk, use their arm, but just to go and stretch with someone and sit on a 10units for 10mins and get billed outrageous is not worth it, i learned everything i need in the first few visit's to dump em those money hoggs!

from time to time i may schedule a visit for traction where they pull your lower body away from your upper body to stretch the the spine, but i prob better of using a INVERSION TABLE SOMEWHERE

Pregnant I was plagued with this (kids were almost 12lbs) - all I could get my body to do is elevate a leg at a time with this umm "home health aide" - okay it was a slanted pillow object for a sexual position lol

It was awful because I couldn't stretch and you have to.  Otherwise chiro or tens unit

I've got arthritis pain in my spine--it's in the lower back but even worse in the neck. I'm a regular tram user & my dr prescribed meloxicam which knocks out a lot of the pain but I think has been causing stomach bleeding & is bad for my heart (a lot of heart disease in my family). If you're just looking for something OTC then I'd say naproxen is probably better than ibuprofen & safer & you might want to try kratom. It does a good job reducing pain & is legal in almost every state.
