Hey everybody. I'm not aware if you know but Scotland will soon be voting on whether they should stay as part of the UK or whether they should start making there own way in life free from westminsters rule.

I would really like to hear other peoples views on the subject. The debate in scotland has turned very sour with lots of scaremongering involved.

All views are welcome ☺

I think every country in the UK has the right to independence. I do think however that the Scottish people have been lied to by Alex Salmond, I think many people are concerned that the economics put forward by the SNP just doesn't add up. They said they would ally with Norway without even asking Norway. The bizarreness of asking to keep the pound??? That makes no sense at to ask for independence but have your currency tied up with the sovereign nation you are trying to release yourself from.

It is a complicated one I have lots of family up there and non of them are that interested in independence but if a deal sounded truthful and everybody was behind it they would support it. As it is I think people see quite a power hungry man desperate, with his head in the clouds.

This is an interesting debate and although i sound firmly against it I actually love what this debate has done already. It has really shaken Westminster to the core, I think parliment and whitehall kind of left this issue thinking it would blow over and now they are actually quite worried.

I am members of a few debating pages on the subject. I rarely get involved as it can get quite nasty. What i will say is that there seems to be no legitimate argument why they shouldn't vote for independence. There seems to be alot of misinformation being put about by the better together campaign in a bid to discourage the split. The general consensus though is that people are fed up with the way that the minority of rich are ruling a nation of prodominantly less well off people.

As far as the pound is concerned it is just as much Scotlands as it is anybodies. Wealth is wealth wether it by in shillings, pounds or gold. Any country can piggy back there currency on another countries as there are already other countries that are doing so. How the national debt is split is a more taxing problem but not impossible. Possibly done by an equal share in respect of population.

I think people need to see past the the demonising of Alex Salmond and concentrate on the ideas of how the country should be best represented. They either want to be ruled by the rich and bankers who frankly imo don't care about the general public or they want to take a chance to make a better country for there kids. If only England could denounce Westminster and restore some working man values I think the union could prosper.

One last thing which I've always wondered though is if Scotland got independence would the SNP and Alex Salmond no longer be required as there whole purpose would be achieved. Also would the Scottish even vote them into power?

the thing I am most worried about is if Scotland do get independence there goes our chance of getting the conservatives out of power. The Scottish electorate provide so many labour votes ( not that i have much faith in them but a ever so slightly better of the 2 evils ) that I fear with out scotland it will be a con stronghold in england for a long time to come so if anything we need the scots rather than the other way round to sort this nation out.

Xegh

I fear a constant conservative rule also but I'm sure I read somewhere that from all the times that labour have been voted in not once did the Scottish vote have an impact. Tbh though I don't see any difference between conservative or labour when in power. There both just out to line there pockets. It's about time the working class and poor united as one so we can rid ourselves of the Conservative party. I suppose that's one thing about the Scots. They have always seen the Conservatives for what they are. There's more pandas in scotland than there is conservative seats. I wish we could all follow suit as a nation.

I used to think voting was for other people was never really that interested thought they were all pissing in the same pot and all in the old boys network anyway. Then Cameron n his lets look after the rich party got in . How wrong was I get em out... I really don't know enough about the Scottish issue to comment but am gonna read up on it now the one Scottish thing I'd like to give Cameron, clegg or whoever runs the circus is a Glasgow kiss

Needed to get my post count up a bit so looked around and seen this thread.

I was quite actively involved in the last referendum and I suspect we'll see another one sooner than many people realise, so I'm gearing up for the next one already.

Anyone else get involved in the last one?

As it stands, the poll of polls has Indy pretty much 50/50, unless there is a Brexit, in which case the Scots Indy yes vote jumps to almost 60%.

all it was , was one big propaganda situation people freaking that Asda was going to move there shops ..Yada yada ..Why did David Camaron want to keep us so badly if we were a skint nation ..

And if we had another vote today it be YES ..Like it should have been back then .

Asda now doing not so great, deutsche bank who made threats and are now insolvent, the EU now saying we can stay if the UK leaves etc...  Whole project fear was a big scam.  Fool me once!

Let's make sure we also that we don't want to have anything to do with the pound sterling either.

I was a No, and remain so. All that seemed to happen last year was a country fighting amongst itself. I'd have reconsidered my position if the white paper I read from cover to cover was plausible, but it really didn't add up at all. I'm not sure about an EU exit, but I'm just about favouring leaving so far. One of the worst things we done as a country was trade less with our ex colonies, we've more in common with the majority of them than we do with continental Europe anyway. But with nothing else in place at the moment, a renegotiated membership would be an ideal compromise .

I also don't believe in a 50/50 referendum result. You need at least 75% of people onside, or things could regress drastically. As it stands, Salmond got everything he asked for, and still lost. It's a touchy subject though, and I hate the bitter hangover it's left hanging over Scotland.

I just liked a post of yours i wish i didnt lol jokes ..Na thats cool ..See my biggest problem with it was people were voting without reason ..I would question a NO voter and all id get is "i support rangers queens boys" i thought fuck of thats no excuse , have some sort of reasoning to your vote read up on it ..Then vote .Allot of people voted threw football or propaganda

I think the infighting has been over stated. It was a wonderful display of democracy at it's best, however, it was a vote, and that can't be done without some disagreement.

The white paper itself was more a possible prospective of options that could have happened if after a yes vote the SNP had been elected.

It was more domestic policy agenda.

The vote itself was about where and who the power over these decisions would "should" lie. If you voted against because of Salmond, then I guess you voted

"for" David Cameron?

" I also don't believe in a 50/50 referendum result. You need at least 75% of people onside" - So the fact that I was 55% to 45% means the no vote did not win either?

You may have thought the YES case was far fetched, but considering the promises made by the no side have not been delivered, there claims rather than being far fetched should count as outright lies?

I pretty much agree with you yugbert. I feel the whole country lost, I live in the central belt and at my workplace some people don't talk to each other over the whole aftermath! I seen no difference between someone from Glasgow /Aberdeen /Edinburgh etc  and Liverpool/Manchester or Leeds. If anything the biggest disparity is between the South East of England and everywhere else in the UK. I thought the white paper was sensible in some parts and just pure fantasy in others, but I was willing and open to being convinced. I respect Salmond as an orator and I enjoy his wit, I didn't vote No because I dislike him, he's very personable and humorous! I also like David Cameron, though I'm neither a Conservative nor an SNP supporter, but I have voted for both in the past. I do like various policies and views proposed by all of the main parties also, I've been politically aware since my youth.

I'm not someone who is particularly loyal to any party either, their not exactly loyal back. And like most of the rest of the UK, I don't like the UK being run by and for the benefit of what's good for the south east of England. However, they won't just give up these powers, we have to take them.

London does provide an enormous economy boost for the UK as a whole, but conversely attracts lots of businesses that would flourish just as well elsewhere. That's certainly the imbalance I'm not fond of. Interesting times ahead though, no doubt!

I like Mahiri Black MP ..She is what allot of us stand for , she sticks up for the youth ..And talks like the rest of us .As much as i hate politics due to the lies we are fed she is pretty good .

As for David Cameron im not to keen on for a few reasons ..The whole war thing ,wars are for one thing and one thing only in my eyes and that is Money..We are just the puppets that has to follow there agenda , and that i do not like  ,but this debate will still be going on when we are all gone .To much hate in the world .I have a friend in England and we speak to each other just like if he was Scottish or i was English , no hate nothing just friends .But the Scottish/English "the old enemy " Thing will always stick the Scottish "hate" the English and vis versa ..We all have allot more in common with each other than we will ever know .

In saying that it sounds like i should have voted NO but my reasoning for voting YES was for change ,not to split anything up ..We had to try and change something break the cycle ,there should be no Food banks in this day and age when there is billions of pounds available for wars .Our vets shouldn't  be homeless either ,but then people say "oh but the refugees have houses" Jesus were bombing the shit out of there country and then some of us moan when they come to ours .I could moan on and on but like ive said there is to much hate we should learn to like ..Black/white/green/Muslim/Christian/Chinese/Scottish/ etc etc we are all one .No one is different , we cannot stop radicals and haters but we can learn to like/love ..And that my friends is my ranty tanty for the night haha

London (the City) is no more apart of the UK now than the Galapagos Islands. It's become it's own city state Vatican style. It's financial institutions are bankrupt, perverse shells of disrepute. They create nothing of value or worth and are kept alive on the backs of ordinary citizens who's livelihoods pay for their frequent gambling mishaps and fraudulent activities.

We share an island with these people, but they inhabit a completely different society from the rest of us.

There's my rant, night....
