I prefer fresh halibut or cod, and will occasionally do salmon...I lay a flour tortilla flat, put some fish in the center, add grated cheese, lots of spring mix greens, vinegar oil, or sometimes ranch dressing, some sriracha hot chili sauce, and some fresh lemon. Roll that bad boy up, and devour! /default_cool.png

I don't believe in nootropics anymore after all the time I've spent studying physiology. I used to, but there just isn't sufficient evidence in any literature. What we do know is that fish oil is heavily consumed in some japanese communities who have extended longevity and also retain mental health. The mediterranean diet also heavy in olive oil shows similar correlation. I take 5 grams of fish oil a day, which is quite a lot. Recently, this has been implicated in prostate cancer, which is counterintuitive. But I take 5AR blockers too, so I'll probably get my prostate removed before I'm 60 anyway.

I've seen and read a lot of information pertaining to nootropics. Granted most of the researches were conducted on animals such as mice/rats/rodents and a handful were on humans. But a lot of the research I've read have shown positive benefits in regards to nootropics and brain health/stimulation.

Caloric restriction was also shown to increase longevity of animals but those studies didn't translate well to humans. Humans are already barraging their head with mental challenges daily which might eat into a lot of the gap that nootropics would otherwise give. At least that could probably account for the stimulation. We already know that brain exercises have a huge improvement on slowing down dementia and alzheimer's. If you're talking about neuroprotection, we do know that the drug referenced in my forum nickname is neuroprotective for Parkinson's and now we have evidence for long term memory in general. As for things like *racetam, DHEA, all those herbs, inositol etc etc, there is not sufficient evidence that says IQ is significantly improved in humans using these substances. Until something is proven beneficial, it's better not to use it at all. Most of the research on this stuff goes for people with mental decay and they monitor them very closely. With $700B/year in the old age nursing economy, I would strongly suspect if any of these nootropics worked well, they would have been well published by now. The question also becomes, if you can improve IQ by 1%, is that better than simply making your life more efficient by 1%. Sometimes the macro-decisions give a higher return, e.g. choosing not to be a morning commuter and live close to work, or choosing not to waste time seeing crappy movies ever, etc. These decisions can add up in the long term to make life a lot better than a small boost in IQ via nootropics. Personally, I prefer to mentally stimulate myself constantly and eat adequate fish oil. Stimulants also help grease the wheels.

Phenibut is awesome.  Mod a finil is the best stimulant out there imo.

There are a few very good books on the subject to also add to your Amazon cart /default_smile.png

The Diet Cure, Julia Ross

The Mood Cure, Julia Ross (very good about replacing/supplementing script meds)

Depression-Free, Joan Matthews Larson

Warning, though--supplements can be even more expensive then scripts!

One other thing--L-tryptophan is harder to find than 5-HTP, but it is apparently safer. I take it every night before bed w. some melatonin--it is much better than any script I've tried for sleep, and I don't wake up groggy.

What a great thread.

I have suffered long term from chronic immune system inflammatory conditions. I have previously been a royal marine commando and a fitness freak and so I habe done much research into my own way of helping myself. I find that hormones are a huge part of how we feel and certainly s we age and when our bodies don't produce enough of our own hormones.

To cut a very long story short I would ask you all look into DHEA & Prehnenolone. I take 50mg of preg and 25 mg DHEA for 3 weeks on then 2 weeks off. I feel so much better and even with my prescriptions of toxic drugs, I have found a way to maximise my mood and energy. Another I use and find brilliant is what is known as B15 or pangamic acid. A lot of research and use was by the Russians and it's my go to supplement for an energy lift. It's such a shame many don't even know of it.

Methyl folate is another I use. I use optimised folate as plain folic acid doesn't cross the blood brain barrier and can be excreted.

I use a tablet that has ginger, circumin and bromelian in it and is fantastic as an anti inflammatory if you suffer from inflammatory disease like RA, Crohn's, colitis etc. Vitamin E, Zinc, optimised B complex and mega doses of magnesium malate. I use malate magnesium as my body tolerates it well and I don't get loose from it.

I use wild oil of Oregano. It has superb antiviral and antibiotic properties. It has helped me avoid antibiotics for long periods.

I also add calcium with D3. Protects the bowels and bones.

I pi can truly say that this has changed my life for the better and I would urge you all to look into these supplements. The DHEA and pregnenolone have made my mood noticeably better and I have lowered my use of benzos dramatically and not had as bad of a time of it as I did in the past.

I am looking into nootropic drugs now and will test to see how it goes. I normally never say anything or make any claims unless I have tried something over a 6-8 week period and I don't mind experimenting on myself.  I see that big pharma has no problem with experimenting on us and I strongly believe in there being a plant or supplement that can help all of us. We just don't maybe take the initiative to do the research.

For some background here, I was bed bound and broken, clinically depressed and on heavy pain killers. I did the hard yards and am benefitting from this now. It costs me probably around £80 per month but what price on being and feeling well, or at least feeling well ?

If I can be of any help then please get at me. I will obviously keep within this forum rules but am happy to help guide your research.

Disclaimer. I am not qualified nor am I a doctor so all I say could be wrong but I can only say how I have reacted to certain supplements and would be happy if I cou,d help even one person

kind regards

Oh. Red Krill oil. Great stuff.  Helps with inflammation and is soaked up, literally, by the brain. How did I forget that one ! DOH

Pine Pollen Powder !!! and Pine Pollen Tincture's have changed my health for the better. I've stopped all other vitamin supplements except vitamin D once a week, but Pine Pollen has changed my life. I feel better with more energy and focus than I have in years and "knock on wood" I haven't been sick once since starting it over a year ago!   :)

Here is the long story about it and you can go research yourself, but thought I'd mention it here as it really has made a big difference in my every day life. It's not a drug feeling, so don't expect that at all, in about a week you will know you are just healthy and alert and motivated.

Here is the info below from a website: I don't know if I can give the name so I will leave it at that.

Pollen pini. Pine trees provide us with an adaptogenic miracle every Spring season, when the male catkins on the end of the pine’s branches drop their pollen, and blanket the grounds with their yellow powder. You may be familiar with these yellow particles that tend to magnetize themselves to your car every spring. Welcome, Pine Pollen. One may have never guessed, that these fertile microscopic dustings given off by our population of Pine trees all around the world would be so nutritionally dense.

We have been on the earth as a human species for a million-or -some-odd years, in one form or another. Humans have been using the pine trees and their Pollen as medicine since the beginning.

Pine Pollen is a tonic medicine, meaning that it can be used over a course of time, without it having toxic effects on your body. It is also adaptogenic so it will cater to exactly what your body needs and treat any areas of distress. As a nutritive, Pine Pollen can be consumed in large amounts to derive any of the wide range of vitamins and minerals it contains, such as Vitamins A B-Carotene, B1, B2, B3, B6, Folic Acid, Vitamin D, and Vitamin E. Its host of minerals include Calcium, Copper, Iron, Manganese, Magnesium, Molybdenum, Phosphorous, Potassium, Selenium, Silicon, Sodium, and Zinc. Oh, and another plus: Pine Pollen contains over twenty amino acids and all eight essential amino acids! Do you know what this means? It is a complete protein!

Not only is Pine Pollen ultra-rich in vitamins and minerals, while also being a medicine you can take on an on-going basis, but Pine Pollen enhances an array of bodily functions while assisting in preventing degenerative conditions as well. Pine Pollen has the potential to increase immune and endocrine function, reduce sensitivity to pain, lower cholesterol, stimulate liver regeneration; it is an anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritic, and anti-tumor.

Another potent function of Pine Pollen which has brought a significant amount of attention to it, is that it is an androgen. The fact that Pine Pollen is an androgen means that it has the ability to raise testosterone levels effectively, making it a naturally derived source of testosterone! This is a huge discovery, as sources of testosterone in nature are few and far between. Pine Pollen raises the testosterone levels in the blood and balances the ratio of androgens to estrogen. What it is in the Pine Pollen that has this effect on the hormonal levels, are the sterols. The sterols are basically plant steroids, which benefit us, though also help the pines grow and develop!

Pine Pollen can help to reduce size and regulate the prostate, when dealing with one that is enlarged. Pine Pollen’s adaptogenic effects come into play here, as using it will reduce the size of a prostate that is enlarged, and increase its size or prevent atrophy if it is too small. Pine Pollen also contains a steroid that is active against breast and prostate cancer. It inhibits and halts cancer cell growth and multiplication.

Because Pine Pollen is an androgen, it has developed a stigma around it that it caters strictly to the male population. This is untrue. Pine Pollen contains phenylalanine, which is associated with neurotransmitters in the brain. Phenylalanine stimulates dopamine levels in the brain and is a L-dopa precursor. L-dopa has been known to specifically treat a woman’s inability to have an orgasm. Pine Pollen contains arginine, which improves fertility in women and men, as well as, increases growth hormone release.

The dogma that only men need to supplement testosterone is also a myth. Women can become testosterone deficient, leading to a host of ailments such as lack of libido, fatigue, decline in mood/well-being, unexplained bodily changes, sleep disturbances, etc. It is important for women to maintain healthy levels of testosterone. This becomes even more important, as women enter their menopausal years. The menopausal years bring on a serious decline in women’s testosterone levels, which is generally why women tend to lack a sex drive and go through, you could say, “mid-life crises” as their moods are frequently shifting. Pine Pollen could be a perfect supplement for women going through their menopausal years, to aid the likely symptoms they could experience and decrease the discomfort that menopause can bring.

Pine Pollen can also be used externally, to successfully treat skin conditions of all kinds. It can be made into a cream to apply directly to the skin when battling eczema, acne, impetigo, and diaper rash. The arginine in Pine Pollen also caters to the improvement of skin challenges.

Pine Pollen can be consumed in various methods. When harvested, it is in its original powder form. This can be taken orally, or used as an addition to meals, blended drinks, and so on.  Another method of use for Pine Pollen for men, is to use it in its tincture form. When it is tinctured, the testosterone becomes more readily available for the body to assimilate. The androgens are still present in the powder form, though not quite as bio-available.

Pine Pollen is a whole food source and a tonic medicine. This piece of writing is only a mere glance at the realm of health and healing that Pine Pollen can provide. For both men and women, Pine Pollen has successfully elevated sexual/libido and general vitality, decreased impacts from aging, increased energy levels, and mental integrity.

I use a product called Focus Fury, get it off Amazon.  Has a lot of the ingredients mentioned in this thread.  I notice a difference when I either don't have it or just am in a hurry in the morning and forget too.  Maybe just placebo, who knows, but for the price I'll take the slight edge I feel I get.

Never tried Phenibut, but heard a lot of people rave about it.
